Rad

It looks like a great place for baseball.

I actually thought Ortiz would be slighter. He’s built like a bulldog.

Me too

Pretty curious what kind of stuff he’s got right now.

Ortiz

he is very, very small.

I saw him throw 2 innings on thursday night and he sat in the high 80s, mostly 88,
touching 90 maybe once or twice. seemed to mostly throw fastballs.

none of the scouts seemed overly impressed, but they also never seem all that engaged,
somewhat pokerfaced.

I don’t remember being overly impressed with his performance,
but I was aware he is 17 and facing competition much older, that was pretty impressive.

That hefty build

makes one less concerned about his height. Powerful foundation.

Time you enjoy wasting was not wasted.

Blake Beavan

That’s a nice stride.

That was much much shorter in his scouting video leading up to the draft.

Josh Hamilton is better than you.

Clinton

Blake really does have a nice delivery, i’ve heard that he needs to come follow through with it a bit more,
but it didn’t seem like all that abrupt of a finish if you ask me.

he had a few issues with his control on thursday,
but was still very impressive.
before the game, one scout said the the other two,
that they were going to see the best arm on the team.
he said it in a way that came across as he had already scouted him earlier this year,
and even if Feliz was still on the roster, he would’ve said the same thing.

at one point he threw a change up that looked absolutely filthy,
his mother who was sitting near me was pretty excited about that pitch.
I was not aware he could pull the string like that.
it was probably high 70s,
his fastball was sitting high 80s and peaked at 92.

he struck out Felix Carrasco on a real nice breaking ball, i think it was,
and Felix was pissed. Hammered his bat on home, snapped it in half and got a word or two out before the ump gave him a look that shut him up on his way back to the dugout.

the only thing with Blake is that he is so intense when he’s out there,
in an almost military way. Similar to Bonderman and Billingsley when they were younger,
at times it seemed like they just wanted to win and tried to do it all themselves.

Maybe its his personality, but I had gone to a game earlier this year and sat next to Blake and a Rockies scout, and he was really chill. Some of the other pitchers who were charting didn’t seem very interested in the game, they were almost treating it like busy work, but Blake was picking the scouts mind and really came across as a young guy who genuinely wants to get better and learn whatever he can.

i’ve read that he has a reputation for being arrogant,
but he was real friendly, talked to me during that 1st game quite a bit,
and then on thursday he remembered me from earlier this year,
stopped his stretching to come over and say whats up and talk about Beltres hot streak.
(i’m a huge Beltre fan)

Michael Main had a pretty nasty blister, which is why he came out the other day,
but he was happy to be around some baseball with actual fans.
he definitely looks like a great athlete, If i didn’t know he was a pitcher,
I could’ve easily mistaken him for a center fielder, he’s built like that.
I do think he could still add a few inches and then fill out pretty well.

Cristian Santana must’ve had 3 or 4 balls get past him,
it wasn’t good. His approach at the plate seemed decent,
but he didn’t look 6’0 to me. maybe its because he’s pretty thick,
but he looked shorter.

Beltre didn’t do anything, but he showed some speed in the outfield and can fly once he gets going.
before the game he was goofing around and just seemed like a young ballplayer having fun.
I really think he’s going to be something special.
