The official Dark Knight was good not great thread.
It was good. Hell of a joker........ But I was expecting to be blown away because of all the hype and I left wanting something more. Also when are they gonna find a good Rachel? Holmes and Gyllenhaal were AWFUL.

Great
Gets my vote. I really enjoyed it.

Haven't seen it
And don’t really have much interest to either, but I am fascinated by the extraordinary hype.
Seems almost inevitable that the film will do little more than confirm what people believed going in—either 1. It can’t be worth the hype or 2. It’s the greatest film of the year.

It's worth seeing Brett...
I know you love the old films, but I really enjoyed this movie.
I’ve been a big fan of Nolan since Memento (like many people have) and he hasn’t disapointed me with his 2 Batman films. I liked Michael Keaton and Jack as the Joker in Tim Burton’s film, but the old Batman movies were too much like the tv shows. All the BAM BOOM BANG shit that was nothing like how Batman was supposed to be. I was never a big fan of comics growing up, but I read enough of them to see Batman as a villianous or dark hero and that is what Nolan has done. I’m also a big fan of Bale in the lead role. I still can’t help but think of some of his American Psycho shit when I see him on the screen.
Overall I thought the movie was great. Very dark and Heath Ledger was amazing. I thought the story was pretty good and although it was 2hrs and 45 min long it kept me very entertained. It will be interesting to see where Nolan takes it from here. Give it a shot.

I'm sure I will
The Batman move I’ve enjoyed most was Batman Returns. I just didn’t dig Begins. I’m willing to attribute that dislike to a horrible villain, a shitty actress and an understandable need to set up a ton of background.
Seeing that this new one is nearly 3 hours is enough to make me shift uncomfortably right now. It’s going to have to be pretty good for me not to get antsy.
I thought Heath Ledger was fantastic in Brokeback Mountain. I was in a film class my freshman year of college (‘05), and Gary Cogill came in to give us a lecture and take questions. Somebody asked him what the best film and actor he’s seen so far this decade. Without a second of hesitation he said Brokeback Mountain and Heath Ledger—and this was several months before the film came out.
He also stole the show in an otherwise unwatchable I’m Not There. I’m interested in seeing this much hyped performance. That’s probably the only thing that’ll get me to go. That and my girlfriend wants to see it.

Ledger...
was great in Brokeback, I agree. I may get shit for this, but I think that his “Joker” is Oscar worthy. He was that good in this movie.
I liked the first Batman and Batman Returns as well. Neither as much as Batman Begins or this film though. The shitty actress thing continues in this movie as well. I like Maggie in a couple other films, but she wasn’t very good in this film, so don’t expect much there either.

Well
If I have to see Ledger “take” a Gyllenhaal in a tent, I’d choose Maggie, so she’s got that going for her I suppose.

Well done...
hopefully we wouldn’t have to watch him spit on his hand for that one.

Heath Ledger
I just got back from seeing Dark Knight, and Ledger’s Joker pwned the hell out of Nicholson’s. That’s the Joker I know from the comics.
It’s a shame Ledger won’t be able to reprise that role. I’m not sure another actor could do it proper justice.

Yea
Ledger was fantastic as the joker. I thought the casting for these last two movies was excellent other than Rachel Dawes.

so...
i liked it a lot.
couple things wern’t needed, but all in all very good.
very different from most comic book films.. they seem to usually be 3/4 action movie 1/4 comedy. this was 1/2 action movie, 1/2 crime epic along the lines of heat or somethig.
hard hitting, no?

How eerie was it at the
end when he said that they could do this thing “forever”? Great movie.

Um...
This didn’t exactly go the way you planned, did it AirJordan? Haha. Dude the movie was a knockout. I mean in a good way. It was one of the best movies I’ve ever seen.
And just for the record, Heath Ledger better win an Oscar for his performance as the Joker. Absolutely perfect. I don’t see how they can bring the Joker back again for a long, long time after that. Heath was that good.
Ian Kinsler has finally earned the right to be the third of my co-favorite players.

he was good
very good maybe, but one thing kind of bugged me and really wasnt the fault of ledger. He kept contradicting himself with the reason he had the scars on his face. There were at least two reasons, maybe another I cant remember, but it kind of took away from the character imo cause you kept getting differing views of his back story and had a harder time building the depth of the character. He just came off as psycho, which I know he was, but it would have been better to build that extra layer as opposed to have him look just plain old crazy. Good performance, but im not sure it was oscar worthy.
I'm sorry my parents never had me sarcamsized.

I know
This thread has faded away from the main page, and so it’s doubtful many will see this, but as someone who saw the movie today and read the comics as a kid, I can tell you this:
Joker has always made up conflicting stories of his past. He has no one “true” canon background. Most have him as a failed standup comedian, but even this has had doubts cast upon it.
If by “extra layer”, you mean a bunch of pseudo-Freud bullshit about his childhood, then I’m certainly glad you walked away disappointed. That would have absolutely ruined the role. We don’t need to know why, just how. In this case, it was about HOW the Joker came to power. That’s it. It really doesn’t matter WHY he’s the Joker or how he got his scars or anything else.
Matter of fact, more than one comic has suggested that Joker himself doesn’t remember his past because he’s made it up so much.
