Blalock back on third
The DMN reports that Vasquez seeked out JD to discuss his displeasure over losing the third base job to Blalock. I have to agree with Ramon. The winning record when he starts coupled with a .310 BA seems like enough to secure a starting position. First night of the change results in a 6-0 shutout. I hope the clubhouse chemistry isn't effected by the shuffle. Do you think the Rangers just want exposure for Blalock on third for trade purposes?

i think it has
more to do with Chris Davis playing well at first and holding his own; but I do agree that it does in part have to do with raising his trade value.

Lots of stuff
Emergence of Davis.
Trade value for Hank.
The fact that Vazquez is a 31 year old career utility player who is beginning to show signs that overexposure is a bad thing for him.

I posted these numbers yesterday
But here they are again, just for kicks:
Vazquez:
Last 10 games:.257/.350/.286
Last 20 games: 254/.338/.343
Ramon doesn’t have much to complain about. He had his hot streak, but he’s cooled off like all the rational people knew he would, and the numbers he’s currently putting up, namely the lack of SLG% aren’t good enough for a full-time third baseman. The clubs record with him in the lineup, and the 6-0 loss yesterday are pure coincedence, despite what Evan Grant would have us think – Hank has a 798 career OPS, and Vazquez has a 688 career OPS, so it’s actually much safer to say that the Rangers have a much better chance of winning with Hank in the lineup than without him.
I understand that Vazquez wants to play everyday, but he needs to take a step back and remember his role before he complains about being taken out of the lineup for a former all-star. He’s a journeyman utility infielder, who happened to reel off a couple really great months earlier this year. That’s all.

People said the same about DeRosa
and he’s proven to be better than we thought (I said it at the time too).
Not saying Vazquez is going to continue his hot May-June, but guys have had late-career surges before.

true, but..
derosa has always been better than vazquez. the year before derosa came to texas he was vazquez caliber, but he had put up several mid 700s ops’s before.
vazquez’s career high was .706, every other year sub 700. some sub 600. and a sub 500.

I dont have a problem with him seeking out daniels at all
i just hope daniels madea compelling argument, and vazquez listens reasonably.

If Vazquez shouldn't lose his starting job...
...what do you do with Blalock?
by Adam J. Morris on Jul 19, 2008 9:50 AM CDT 0 recs
Exactly...
if Hank is healthy and can play 3B you don’t boot Blalock or Davis so Ramon can play everyday. That just wouldn’t make any sense.

We might as well trade
both and just start Duran.

I guess thats why
Ramone decided to clip his nails in the dugout during the game.

We rode Vazquez
as long as his hot streak lasted. Sucks for him it didn’t last longer, or there might have been a decision to make.

His streak ended?
He hit .307 in June with an OPS of .874. How is that the end of a streak?

He's only played in 10 games in July
don’t you think that is a small sample size?

Yes
I think it is. But it means something, given what you’re doing there. If you look above, a 20 game trend is given, but you’re bunching the latter part of June with the earlier part of June, to make it appear that he was just hitting well very recently. Well, he really hasn’t. Now, maybe 20 games is too small of a sample too, but the fact that he hit well in early-mid June doesn’t make me feel great on July 19, when I know what kind of long, established history he has.

Maybe you're right
I hope not though…I hope he can continue. A lot of people said the same thing about DeRosa…it’s weird when a journeyman revitalizes his career to an extent…is it for real or not? We’ll see.

Know your role Vazquez
Right now that means sitting on the bench.
Plaschke: Scioscia, the former Dodgers catcher, is the model manager who has created an atmosphere of winning.
Junior:It's that simple. Mike Scioscia brings a Glade Plug-In labeled "Winning™" into the clubhouse and everyone who breathes it in gains 15 points in average.

Blalock is put back in the line-up...
...and we promptly get shut-out.
curse?
by oc on Jul 19, 2008 1:10 PM CDT 0 recs
Solution
If a curse. Put him in charge of the foam finger, never in the lineup, and the bats will come back to life. Sure. LOL!

If we traded Blalock
he’d probably get hurt traveling to the other team to take the physical.
