Geez

Angels down 2-1 to Boston, bottom of the 7th. They’ve got runners on 1st and 2nd against Beckett.

Reggie Willits just sac bunted. The announcers are fawning all over that, talking about how it is Angels baseball, that’s what they teach and how great they play that way, blah blah blah.

So the BoSox, of course, walk Howie Kendrick to bring Jeff Mathis up. Erick Aybar hits for Mathis.

So you took the bat out of the hands of Willits (a high OBP guy who doesn’t ground into GIDPs) and Kendrick so that Aybar can bat.

by Adam J. Morris on Jul 19, 2008 5:09 PM CDT   0 recs

And Aybar hits a 3 run double

So Mike Scioscia makes me look dumb for complaining.

by Adam J. Morris on Jul 19, 2008 5:10 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Scioscia...

may be the most overrated manager in the game imo.

by slc ranger on Jul 19, 2008 5:10 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

doubt it..

Scioscia is great, wish he were in the National league or another division.

by tyd3311 on Jul 19, 2008 5:13 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

d'you catch that graphic?...

...the Angels are 36-18 in games decided by two runs or less…

statistically speaking… they’re the “luckiest” team in baseball…

by oc on Jul 19, 2008 5:17 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

that or..

they have great pitching.

by tyd3311 on Jul 19, 2008 5:19 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

that doesn't mean they aren't lucky

They are getting great pitching from Ervin Santana and Joe Saunders. I can understand Lackey and Weaver doing a good job at least, and Garland being a decent arm as well, but Saunders and Santana have had first halves that I doubt they ever have again.

By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

by Gdawg1 on Jul 19, 2008 5:27 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Santana is that good..

Not just the starters though.. their 7th ,8th, and 9th inning guys are as good as it gets.

by tyd3311 on Jul 19, 2008 5:30 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Santana is a head case

He’s got promising stuff, but he isn’t this good as a pitcher right now.

By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

by Gdawg1 on Jul 19, 2008 5:35 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

i'm banking on Saunders and Santana...

...to start stinking it up pretty soon.

by oc on Jul 19, 2008 5:49 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

In terms of peripherals.

...Saunders is pitching about as well as Nate Robertson right now.

by Adam J. Morris on Jul 19, 2008 5:51 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

What a catch in CF there.

Stars in a Texas Night Sky, a Dallas Stars blog from a fan's perspective.

Coco Crisp

That was a nice catch.

by GregoryM on Jul 19, 2008 5:27 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

K Rod....

how the hell has he not been seriously injured yet? his delivery is just painful to watch

AP article
“I don’t see us trading our future for a rental situation,” general manager Jon Daniels said.
.
“I’m hard-pressed to think of a scenario that really makes sense for us to talk about (trading Bradley),” Daniels said. “Guys feed off his intensity, feed off his competitive spirit.”

I like both of those quotes

I don’t want to see Bradley traded unless we’re blown away and I’d hate to see them try to make some blockbuster deal for the many missing pieces we need to make the playoffs.

by iorange555 on Jul 19, 2008 5:30 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I hope we do

and can see something around 3 years/25-30 million. Ideally it would be 2 years with a 3rd year team option though. If we don’t sign him, take the 2 draft picks and draft some high potential talent with them.

By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw

by Gdawg1 on Jul 19, 2008 5:36 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

See

while I agree he isnt a necessarily an automatic trade chip I do believe that signing him without some sort of option 3rd yr is a mistake. Looking back at his career he just hasnt been able to stay healthy. I just have this feeling he will be traded because another team will be desperate and overpay. Im hoping the AL East triumvirate of the Rays, Sox, and Yankees come calling and bid against each other. So is his Type A free agent status a lock right now?

by booyahcaveman on Jul 19, 2008 5:44 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Seeing Gagne last season

I wouldn’t say he’s a lock, but its a pretty good bet I think that he will be. And looking back at his career, he has never had the luxury of being able to DH to stay healthy. I think that that will help him stay healthy a lot more.

By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

Braves..

by tyd3311 on Jul 19, 2008 5:47 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I doubt the Indians

They don’t strike me as a team that is going to spend huge dollars on a reliever.

by Adam J. Morris on Jul 19, 2008 5:48 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Tom Hicks...

...would love to sign Francisco Rodriguez.

by oc on Jul 19, 2008 5:52 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Devil Rays???

As much of a PR move as a baseball move perhaps.

by tyd3311 on Jul 19, 2008 5:54 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I really dont think

they will spend that type of money on a FA. I think they are more willing to open their wallet to keep all of their young talent.

by booyahcaveman on Jul 19, 2008 5:55 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

If we

sign F-Rod, I will no longer be a Ranger fan.

by coolaid on Jul 19, 2008 5:56 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Signing a guy like F-Rod for the money he is demanding would be stupid. If it is a SP then you can do that but for a reliever that kind of money is crazy.

by coolaid on Jul 19, 2008 6:01 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

think of all the saves...

...against the Angels…

by oc on Jul 19, 2008 5:57 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

saves

yeah, well the thing about saves is you have to be in a save situation to get one.

yeah, i really don’t either
the tigers strike me as the team that would go hard after him

Doubt the

Tigers sign him since they have Joel Zumaya.

by coolaid on Jul 19, 2008 5:55 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

well it wont be

the yankees or sox (rivera and papelbon). I think he feels a little insulted by the Angels right now. Dodgers? I wonder if we will throw our hat into the ring.

by booyahcaveman on Jul 19, 2008 5:46 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

krod

i hope the rangers don’t go after him, i just think he’s a big injury waiting to happen

Gramitica

Maybe he will injure himself celebrating a strikeout.

by GregoryM on Jul 19, 2008 5:53 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I don’t know, but it’s going to be a lot of money to pay for a closer.

by GregoryM on Jul 19, 2008 5:48 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Ive heard...

it will be around the neighborhood of 14 million per.

by booyahcaveman on Jul 19, 2008 5:48 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah

I think that’s more money than you want to pay for a reliever.

by Adam J. Morris on Jul 19, 2008 5:49 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Agreed

I just hope they earmark that money to go after Sabathia or Sheets. Seems like Sheets would take 15-17 per and Sabathia 18-21.

by booyahcaveman on Jul 19, 2008 5:54 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

fa pitchers

i think sheets is more realistic than sabathia.
but i still have questions about sheets health

by rentz on Jul 19, 2008 5:59 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

If we get Sheets

I hope it is like 3 years 50 million

instead of 5 years 60 million or so

by tyd3311 on Jul 19, 2008 6:01 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

My guess

If you want Sheets on a 3 year deal, you are talking $60 million.

by Adam J. Morris on Jul 19, 2008 6:02 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah

I dont think we are getting him for anything shorter than 5 yrs though. My guess is 5/75-80.

by booyahcaveman on Jul 19, 2008 6:03 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

5 / 75-60

i’d do that with innings pitched clauses
