Geez
Angels down 2-1 to Boston, bottom of the 7th. They’ve got runners on 1st and 2nd against Beckett.
Reggie Willits just sac bunted. The announcers are fawning all over that, talking about how it is Angels baseball, that’s what they teach and how great they play that way, blah blah blah.
So the BoSox, of course, walk Howie Kendrick to bring Jeff Mathis up. Erick Aybar hits for Mathis.
So you took the bat out of the hands of Willits (a high OBP guy who doesn’t ground into GIDPs) and Kendrick so that Aybar can bat.
by Adam J. Morris on Jul 19, 2008 5:09 PM CDT 0 recs
And Aybar hits a 3 run double
So Mike Scioscia makes me look dumb for complaining.

may be the most overrated manager in the game imo.

d'you catch that graphic?...
...the Angels are 36-18 in games decided by two runs or less…
statistically speaking… they’re the “luckiest” team in baseball…

that doesn't mean they aren't lucky
They are getting great pitching from Ervin Santana and Joe Saunders. I can understand Lackey and Weaver doing a good job at least, and Garland being a decent arm as well, but Saunders and Santana have had first halves that I doubt they ever have again.

“I don’t see us trading our future for a rental situation,” general manager Jon Daniels said.LINK

“I’m hard-pressed to think of a scenario that really makes sense for us to talk about (trading Bradley),” Daniels said. “Guys feed off his intensity, feed off his competitive spirit.”

I like both of those quotes
I don’t want to see Bradley traded unless we’re blown away and I’d hate to see them try to make some blockbuster deal for the many missing pieces we need to make the playoffs.

I hope we do
and can see something around 3 years/25-30 million. Ideally it would be 2 years with a 3rd year team option though. If we don’t sign him, take the 2 draft picks and draft some high potential talent with them.

See
while I agree he isnt a necessarily an automatic trade chip I do believe that signing him without some sort of option 3rd yr is a mistake. Looking back at his career he just hasnt been able to stay healthy. I just have this feeling he will be traded because another team will be desperate and overpay. Im hoping the AL East triumvirate of the Rays, Sox, and Yankees come calling and bid against each other. So is his Type A free agent status a lock right now?

Seeing Gagne last season
I wouldn’t say he’s a lock, but its a pretty good bet I think that he will be. And looking back at his career, he has never had the luxury of being able to DH to stay healthy. I think that that will help him stay healthy a lot more.
