Scott Miller from CBS Sports has an article up today in which there are rumors about who will have controling interest in the team in the near future. According to Miller, rumors indicate that Hiroshi Yamauchi, former head of Nintendo, wants to get out of baseball and sell his interest in the team. Former Microsoft exec and current minority owner Chris Larson wants to assemble an investment group to purchase said share of the Seattle Mariners. Among this group is Pat Gillick, who would assume the role of head of baseball operations, and would then name the next GM. The story gets weirder when Miller says the three-year extension given to Kenji Johjima was done so at the behest of Yamauchi. He apparently wanted to "take care of" Johjima before getting out of the baseball business. The article also statest that the baseball operations people (Bavasi) were against the extension.
