Dear God

Can you do me a favor and make sure the Yankees miss the playoffs?

Thanks!

Wash is such an idioit

ya i know theres no one else but having this kid up for so long and not useing then puting him in to debut in this spot is just dumb

Perhaps

Littleton would have been a better call up

by FirebatM3 on Jul 2, 2008 9:00 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Perhaps, but

his ERA is 1/2 run higher than Mad Dog’s? And didn’t he just pitch 2 innings the night before?

I kinda agree

Wes has MLB experience, Madrigal is the new play-pretty. It was just a bad place to use him…but the options were very limited.

"kinda agree"

You are correct, Wes may have been a better callup. I do think they wanted to see what they had in Madrigal. They did not use him in the best situation,,,and he also didn’t perform.

I would feel horrible for him if he were to be sent down tonight, but I can understand the team’s need.

I have no problem with Madrigal being called up

I have a problem with having him face the middle of the Yankees order in a one run game in his major league debut.

True

but I would have rather had Wright pitch the 7th and face the middle of the order. Then if you have to use Madrigal, he could face the bottom of the order in the 8th. Not an ideal situation, but I like his chances of getting Betemit and Gardner out a lot more than getting A-Rod and friends.

...bringing in a 24-year-old rookie for his MLB debut in a one-run game in a sold-out Yankee Stadium, facing Bobby Abreu, Alex Rodriguez and Jason Giambi, when Jamey Wright and (presumably) Frank Francisco are available.

Madrigal has good stuff

A lot is expected from him. I wanted to see him pitch the 6th inning, not Benoit – but in retrospect, bringing him into face the heart of the Yankee order was pretty stupid.

watching this game

makes me think of how crazy it is that we scored over twice as many runs last year.

2 games over 500 please.

roster moves

even with the off day

Friday is a day game

are some arms going to be exchanged to freshen the BP?

by simplesimon on Jul 2, 2008 9:35 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Littleton up

I guess. Maybe Loe up and Benoit DL’d

by FirebatM3 on Jul 2, 2008 9:36 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

And Mendoza back to the bullpen?

I’d be down with that.

How many pitches did he throw today?

How does moving him to the bullpen help anything?

When his slot in the rotation rolls around again, I mean

I don’t see much sense in calling up Harrison if he’s not going to start eventually.

They're talking...

about bringing up bullpen arms. Moving Mendoza to the bullpen doesn’t do anything to make the bullpen less tired. It probably makes it more tired.

You're not getting my point

DL Benoit, call up Littleton to provide some immediate help.
Send down Madrigal, call up Harrison for a reserve longman. If you don’t use Harrison in before Mendoza’s next start, then give the start to him instead.

That's IF they call up Harrison

But if he’s not going to start, I wouldn’t call him up at all.

well i wouldnt kick mendoza out after one start

but he wasnt exactly impressive tonight, even considering the defense letting him down.

I still don't see...

the point of calling up Harrison at all in that situation.

concievably, you could see him ready by this Saturday

by FirebatM3 on Jul 2, 2008 9:42 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

What about Nippert?

I know he just threw his no-no, but that’s an option.
Same with someone like Bill White. Or (gasp!) Fukumori.

Nippert

I believe you’d have to clear a 40 spot for him.

by FirebatM3 on Jul 2, 2008 9:43 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

No need

There are 2 empty slots already.

by Adam J. Morris on Jul 2, 2008 9:44 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

then

he’s probably the best choice

by FirebatM3 on Jul 2, 2008 9:47 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

In place of whom?

Madrigal? For what purpose? It seems like you are just making a move for the sake of making a move, then.

by Adam J. Morris on Jul 2, 2008 9:47 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Because

I personally don’t believe Madrigal is ready and he’s not really geared to go more than one inning.

by FirebatM3 on Jul 2, 2008 9:49 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Okay

But I don’t know that Nippert is a long-term solution. And if you bring him up only to bump him from the roster again in 2-3 weeks, he becomes a free agent.

Clearly, we need to demote Chris Davis.

Relievers

Brian Gordon time?? Komentani? I know he pitched tonight but is Tommy Hunter gonna wind up in the pen before the season is over?

by phina on Jul 2, 2008 9:46 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I doubt it

Everyone should be ready to go on Friday.

by Adam J. Morris on Jul 2, 2008 9:44 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

everyone?

surely Wright is done at least until Sunday

by simplesimon on Jul 2, 2008 9:46 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Wright

He should be ready to pitch again on Friday. Maybe Saturday, at the latest.

by Adam J. Morris on Jul 2, 2008 9:46 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

by pitch

do you throw the baseball like he did tonight or do you mean throw pitches that can get ML hitters out?

by simplesimon on Jul 2, 2008 9:48 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

The latter

I don’t see why he’d need 3 days off after throwing 41 pitches.

by Adam J. Morris on Jul 2, 2008 9:49 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Maybe MY to the DL?

do we know how serious his injury is?

If he goes to the d.l.

You have to call up Ryan Roberts. Otherwise, there are no backup infielders.

well, on the plus side

we are going to end up being outscored by 9+ runs in a 3 game series and win the series.

although with wright sacrificing himself for the team here its not reallly legit.

2 games over 500 please.

by DSheppard on Jul 2, 2008 9:39 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

wright is going to be done until we get home

this sucks

with Benoit sucking we’re basically down 2 arms in the BP for the Baltimore series

by simplesimon on Jul 2, 2008 9:39 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Benoit

probably a good time to DL him

I've got a free ticket to see it...

so I’ll definitely be seeing it. I’ve heard it’s actually pretty good and that it’s just one that critics hated because they’re old fuddy duddies.
