you never forget your first time...
so i'm going to my first minor league baseball game this weekend.
bakersfield is playing at lake elsinore, and we have tickets sunday - front row behind home plate (only $10 per seat - which i like a lot). i am soliciting advice from the fellow LSB contributors.
do i go early? do i stay late? do i take a camera?
based on your cumulative years of experience at hundreds of games, what guidance can you provide to a first timer?
thanks in advance,
sam

go early
I don’t care for pictures or autographs myself, but definitely go early and try to catch batting practice and pitcher warmups. The players and coaches are more accessible at minor league parks and you can sometimes get news or info about what players are working on with their swing, etc. Just don’t be obnoxious about it and give them space to do their business, of course.
And definitely give us a report after the game.
Time you enjoy wasting was not wasted.

so if it's a 6pm game...
what time do the gates open, and what time does the “fun” start?
where can i see who is pitching? i didn’t see this on the team’s mlb web site.
who is expected to be called up next from bakersfield (combination of who is good PLUS where is there a need)? i would like to start rooting for someone that i will hopefully be able to see climb the ladder over the next few weeks/months.
what are the chances i see one of these guys in arlington this year or next?

:)
1. If it’s a 6 p.m. game, the gates probably open 90 minutes to 2 hours prior. You can probably find that info somewhere on their web site.
2. Shroom’s site is a great source for minor league pitching projections.
I have no idea on the next two questions. But I’m pretty sure if they’re in Bakersfield, they won’t be getting to Arlington this year. Unless they’re just awesome or we totally tank.

I was going to go to one of these...
...games too (we live in Elsinore, unfortunately), but we’ve got a good friend that’s about to have her first baby. The wife is on “alert” to go be a coach at the hospital so we’re stuck in limbo until the little one arrives.
If I’m lucky, the kid will pop out tomorrow and I’ll be good to go for one of the games.

Be a nerd.
Keep score. I find that it helps me focus on the individual players more.

Yes
That tingly feeling you have inside right now for winning….. That’s your prize.
Your welcome.

Frisco BP
Anyone know when Frisco takes batting practice on gamedays? Do they take it in the cage or on the field?
Going to see Borbon and Vallejo for the first time tonight. Also, finally Elvis will play in a game I go to. Five games this year and Elvis has not played in 4 of them.
By the way—-How many of you start the game off at 3rd base across the street?

Frisco
I believe they take practice in the cage. At least thats the only place i’ve ever seen guys take practice.
which its kind of cool because you are just a few feet away from whoever is in the outdoor cage.

Blaze
I caught the Blaze here back a month ago when they played against the Inland Empire 66ers. I got to see the Blaze against Jason Schmidt in a rehab assignment, so it was nice to see the players hit against a major league pitcher. Plus, it was nice to take my daughter to her first baseball game.
