After we trade MB

Cruz will be called up. Have faith in JD. Screw Ryan, he sucks.

anybody

who is arguing to compete at 7.5 games out at the break and has watched this team play over their head with awesome hitting and winning in spite of their pitching. anybody who honestly thinks this team has a chance to win a WS or even a playoff series and will step on JD’s toes for that belief is in fact an idiot.

Why not try to add a

Sean Gallagher/Nick Adenhart type to our rotation and bring Bradley back in the off-season? It makes no sense to keep Bradley here unless you really think we’re going to make the playoffs. JD doesn’t need to worry about hurting chemistry or people’s feelings, these guys are professionals and if we re-sign Bradley all will be fine. Also, if we can acquire another pitching prospect for Bradley, it makes it easier to give up a few to get a guy like Greinke.

This statement is pure speculation but

perhaps that manifests Nolan Ryan’s weight in the decision making process?

I don't think so

I think it is more a matter of, the Rangers like what he brings and want to keep him around, and there isn’t a team out there that is going to give up a whole ton of assets to get him.

by Adam J. Morris on Jul 20, 2008 12:10 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Exactly

No one wants him bad enough to warrant dealing him. At this point, I’m ok with keeping him long term if the deal is not too costly. This team is going to have one hell of a lineup next year with the returnees plus a maturing Chris Davis and maybe Max Ramirez as well.

Time you enjoy wasting was not wasted.

and we’ll get the draft picks if he decides to go elsewhere and early reports say this is going to be a pretty good draft class.

by Kevin McBrayer on Jul 20, 2008 1:57 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Resigning him

might be better to let him go, stick Max at DH and use the money on pitching. He might require too many years and too much money for the health risk.

I'm just not sure

how this team will be better next year if we can’t significantly upgrade our rotation via FA and trade.

Well

I don’t see that Milton Bradley is going to be likely to bring you a pitcher who is going to significantly upgrade the rotation for 2009.

I imagine you are going to see a move this offseason, with the Rangers targeting a Greinke-type young front of the rotation starter, offering some combo of Tea/Salty/Max, JMJ, and a couple of the sub-AA pitching prospects.

Matt Cain

could be a target as well.

The problem with trading with the Giants

They just drafted Buster Posey, and thus aren’t in the market for a major league ready catching prospect, which, presumably, is going to be one of our major chips.

by Adam J. Morris on Jul 20, 2008 12:59 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, of all the teams to draft Posey.

They sure could use a JMJ; Arias, Duran, or Vallejo; even Hank if say we tried it before the deadline this season.

he has to be called up

its ridiculous at this point. boggs has established himself as someone the rangers will be taking a look at, down in AAA for a month isnt going to hurt anything with him. He could probably use the every day at bats. Nelson cruz doesnt need every day at bats, he needs one more chance.

or we can see if we can get something for byrd again and have them both up.

i really dont think its wise to just throw him in some trade before getting a look at him.

Nelson cruz doesnt need every day at bats

R u sure about that? I think he would benefit from everyday playing time. I think he chokes with a part time gig.

Well sure he could use everyday at bats...

i meant he doesnt need every day at bats in AAA, where he is getting them right now. boggs is a younger guy (well a little younger, not too young) with less experience in the high minors that might actually continue to benefit playing some AAA.

obviously every day at bats is going to be better for any player in organized baseball. but cruz needs the shot, part time if it has to be, more than anything

anyway, I just dont want to lose cruz yet.

This guy has gone nuts....

this year in OKC. I don’t understand why he isn’t up yet. Byrd is good defensively but should be dealt. Murphy can play CF here and there to give Josh a break like Byrd has been doing at times.

At this point I would also rather send Boggs down to play everyday at OKC. One of these options needs to happen soon. This is just like what happened with Botts. Jason didn’t work out, but who knows maybe Nellie could. You have to give the guy a shot in a season like this.

Cruz....

I think the Rangers have determined that Nelson Cruz is not going to cut it in the majors, so they are leaving him in AAA to get max value out of him before the deadline.

Now as bloggers and fans, all we are seeing is his AAA stats, while I am sure the Rangers are still seeing the holes in his swing that major league pitchers can take adavantage of.

Much like Jason Botts.

We will most likely see Cruz delt for some class A fringe prospect, and we will hear an uproar from some on this board, much like with Jason Botts.

and it will be proven again (just how nobody wanted Botts) that Cruz will have very little value to any MLB team which proves that the Rangers are doing the right thing.

Many on here were wrong about Botts and the few that want Cruz up will be wrong about him as well.

by clinton33 on Jul 20, 2008 8:12 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Here's my issue with that

Even as bloggers and fans, many of us could see those holes in his swing in 2006, yet the Rangers seemed sold on him that summer and in 2007. If they are seeing holes now, why didn’t they see them then? Because they were there.

by Brett Perryman on Jul 20, 2008 9:04 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

botts

botts couldnt play defense. cruz plays above average corner defense. it shouldnt be nearly as hard to get another look at him. and its not like giving botts his chances actually hurt anything, or giving cruz one more would.

and this year is better than anything botts did. he had a .980 ops before getting called up last year, but only 13 HRs. Cruz has 31.

the preceding post is not nearly as negative or insulting as you think it is
