It's The Pitching Dummy

Rangers offense is the best in the League - whoopee!!!!!!

They're scoring 5.5 runs per game..........unfortunately, they're giving up 6.0 runs per game.

Pitching and Defense........isn't that what Ron Washington said when he came here?  I'm sure he was right in line with Junior Daniels.  Too bad our pitching is 29th in all of baseball when it comes to ERA, WHIP, walks, and runs given up.

Not to mention that our Defense is the worst in MLB.

We've played 98 games.  We've scored 540 runs - we've given up 579 runs.

Think about this:

Our 2 main guys are Millwood and Padilla - that leaves our 3, 4, and 5 guys.  Those guys have been Feldman,Gabbrad, Ponson, Mendoza, Jennings, Harrison, Hurley, Murray, and Mathis.

Those 3, 4, and 5 guys guys have given up 232 runs.

Now, think about this:

John Danks, Endison Volquez, and Armando Galarraga have combined to give up 111 runs.

Wait a minute........we got Josh Hamilton for Volquez.......yeah, the guy that is one Budweiser away from re-hab.  He's got 96 rbis.

Let's look at it this way:

Say, we take Hamilton's offensive production and cut it in half - IOW - 48 rbis.

Then we throw out the 9 starters we have had this year and substitude with Danks, Volquez, and Galarraga.

We would then have an offense that averages 5.0 runs per game and a pitching staff gives up 4.7 runs per game.

Which would you rather have?

It's stuff like this that shows how totally INCOMPETENT John Daniels is a GM.

Depends on what grammar you've learned

It used to be that everything starting with the prefix ‘re’ was hyphenated. No it’s different. Personally I prefer the hypens; it takes the confusion out of words like resign and re-sign.

by Apes and Androids on Jul 20, 2008 9:44 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

yeah i know...

i never know if its resign as in resignation or someone has been re-signed.

and speaking of grammar..

he should have put a comma after pitching, its the pitching, dummy.

by tyd3311 on Jul 20, 2008 9:57 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Not to mention

needs to put “as” between “is” and “a GM” in the last line, ie.

”...It’s stuff like this that shows how totally INCOMPETENT John Daniels is [AS] a GM…”

Understandable mistake as he’s typing with one hand and tugging on his teenie weenie to the sound of his own “voice” with the other (well, probably just needs to use his thumb and forefinger…).

Rehab is short for rehabilitation.

You’re saying you’ve seen it re-habilitation? Even LSB’s spellchecker coughs that up, dude.

I'm feeling the itch to bust out a grammar nazi picture

But I won’t, because it’s totally okay to play gestapo on LBrooks posts. ;)

Yes it was once upon a time

Every word with the prefix ‘re’ was hyphenated.

Not anymore though, hence the spellchecker not catching it.

Though those were better days when word structure made sense.

by Apes and Androids on Jul 20, 2008 11:14 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Nope

Restitution. Resolution. Restaurant. Remarkable. Renovate. And the list goes on and on and on. True that some action verbs got hyphenated, such a re-examine, but only when a double vowel made clarification necessary. Sheesh.

by Ed Coffin on Jul 20, 2008 11:44 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Maybe I'm not explaining right...

the prefix ‘re’ (not of restaurant, because that ‘re’ isn’t a prefix) meaning ‘again’ was always hyphenated.

We’re not talking everytime the letters ‘re’ were used in a word, just whenever the prefix ‘re’ meaning ‘again’ is used. Sheesh.

by Apes and Androids on Jul 20, 2008 1:02 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

No

Rehabilitation does not need a hyphen, nor do any words with re as the first two letter. Even reexamination does not require a hyphen, to use Ed’s example.

Your “once upon a time” is just a fairy tale of bad grammar instruction.

Time you enjoy wasting was not wasted.

by t ball on Jul 20, 2008 1:13 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

No, it stems from the Colonial collegiate grammar instruction

Like I said, of course, we don’t use it anymore, but it had value and reason behind it, which is probably why we stopped doing it. We like illogical ideas and standards.

my point is that it was proper, not is proper now. nothing is proper now.

YAWN

I stopped reading skimming as soon as I saw the names of Danks and Volquez. But it’s good to see LBrooks is still alive and kicking, I guess.

Joe Torre is actually considering using him as part of a closer comittee in LA these days, with Takashi Saito out.

Its Not Just That

Hamilton wouldn’t be here. A lot of things would be different.
If the Rangers had kept all these pitchers that have been traded or otherwise eliminated, our farm system would not be built up the way it is now. If we had Young, Davis, Danks, Gallaraga, Padilla (maybe?), would the Rangers have dealt Tex, considering that our past as well as present would be different? Would we have acquired and dealt Gagne?
Could we have dealt Coco since we wouldn’t have had Aki?
I, for one, would like to take our chances with the pitchers we have traded being retained. It might have enriched our past, improved our present, but I’m not sure what it would do for our future.
I think that those who are really upset by our past trades need to give some thought to their impact on what we now have in the system.

Another ridiculous fanpost...

This is the same shit you post in every thread LBrooks. Try not to be so stupid and put shit like Josh is “another Budweiser away from rehab” in your posts. What do you know about addiction anyway?

No one here thinks the pitching on this team is good right now. You are going to have to find something else to bitch about when the young pitchers coming up arrive. This is still a rebuilding team you dolt.

This is retarded.

-1. I might agree about Danks, but who knew about Volquez and ESPECIALLY Galarraga? Come on. The comment about Hamilton is just juvenile. Grow up.

You aren't adjusting for

ballpark factors in regard to total runs given up but you do bring up an interesting point so I’ll help strengthen it:

ERA+ =
Volquez 195
Danks 163
Galaragga 123

Feldman 82
Gabbard 86
Ponson 107
Mendoza 66
Jennings 48
Harrison 45
Hurley 116

Wow, you must have ESP.

Please forward this post to the Rangers, I’m sure they have no idea that pitchers are needed to play baseball.

Your amazingly simplistic, non-reality based analysis is just what this team needs to be reading.

by t ball on Jul 20, 2008 12:19 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

some credit

The math you did here was actually pretty interesting. I don’t think it’s anything more than that, though. Still, you gave it slightly more thought that the typical “traded away all our pitching” post, so that’s nice.

But I’d still rather have Hamilton than any of those guys.

by naropean on Jul 20, 2008 12:25 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Except

of course the math would not be that simple. It is impossible to predict exactly how those pitchers would have done if still here, and it is further impossible to predict what the Rangers lineup and outfield would have done without Hamilton.

It is not a zero-sum game.

Time you enjoy wasting was not wasted.

by t ball on Jul 20, 2008 12:43 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

goes without saying

But yes, a lot would be different. This was alluded to by mcgee a bit higher up, but you certainly say it in full. I agree 100%.

At least LBrooks brought fun numbers with him. The game isn’t played in math class, obviously, but it was an interesting, if ultimately pointless, exercise. Just trying to see the positive in the post.

by naropean on Jul 20, 2008 1:19 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Just Ed being Ed

Or seven being seven.

seriously Ed, Galarraga didn’t do a damn thing while in our system. He posted an ERA under 4 exactly once at any level and that was in rookie ball for a grand total of 16 innings. Nobody would have seen him having the success he’s having SO FAR not to mention he pitches at Comerica Park. Volquez wouldn’t have near the ERA he has in Cincy and he certainly would have to cut down on his walks if he was still here, Yes he would be one of our top rotation guys but our r/gm would be higher than the 4.7 you suggest and probably over the 5 you say we would generate minus Hamilton.

Of course I know you make these posts to get the masses riled up.

have fun out at the lake…
