yay

Diamond on TV..

Josh Hamilton is better than you.

by Longhorn on Jul 20, 2008 6:03 PM CDT   0 recs

Diamond looks a little portly....

too many mars bars during rehab?

by Goyogringo on Jul 20, 2008 7:18 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

You don't want to

put too much stress on your elbow by jogging too much/hard or mixing in too many salads.

by zywica on Jul 20, 2008 7:25 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Totally agree

Fatty foods increase elbow viscosity.

Mitch Moreland

by Lucas on Jul 20, 2008 6:08 PM CDT   0 recs

He was

BA: “Moreland might be drafted as a first baseman, where plus raw power is his best asset. Because he’s limited defensively and has an uppercut swing that’s full of holes, he has received more interest as a pitcher. His ceiling on the mound is also modest, but he has an aggressive approach and comes right after hitters with an 86-90 mph fastball and a curveball that has good spin. “

3 Ks in his 1 IP

But he did allow a hit.

whether he’d be a pitcher or position player as a pro

Moreland

hit 93 mph today apparently.

I was sitting here...

...trying to come up with a top 20 or top 30 prospect list, with the idea that I’d post it later this week, and I gave up.

I had the same problem a couple of weeks ago when I did one.

I just can’t figure out what to do when I get to around #7.

by Adam J. Morris on Jul 20, 2008 6:11 PM CDT   0 recs

go ahead and do it

i would like to see a top 30 from you.

Don’t be scared.

Josh Hamilton is better than you.

by Longhorn on Jul 20, 2008 6:14 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah I'm curious how high you have

Smoak. I know you love him.

Smoak

I had him third. The top six was:

Davis
Feliz
Smoak
Max
Hurley
Andrus

Then, after that, I got stuck…Vallejo, Duran, Main, Beavan, Teagarden, Hunter, Holland, Kiker, Beltre, Boscan, Font, Harrison, Lemon, JMJ, Ross, Neil Ramirez…

All of those guys, I look at and say, how can I leave one of those guys out of the top 10? If I put Main ahead of Holland, don’t I have to put Beavan ahead of Hunter? But can I also put Font and Boscan ahead of Holland and Hunter? And if I don’t, don’t I have to slot Holland and Hunter ahead of Beavan and Main? And what about Vallejo and Duran? And can I really justify having Duran that much higher than Lemon?

by Adam J. Morris on Jul 20, 2008 6:28 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

well

do it like golf then, 16 player tie for 7th place.

Josh Hamilton is better than you.

by Longhorn on Jul 20, 2008 6:30 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

yup

these rankings are tough if you try to do it right.
personally i felt when it came down to it main, beavan, teagarden were all more deserving of top 10 spots so i went with them.

having such a good system can be a curse when you try to rank them all

Castillo

How far does he drop from say 14 where BA had him this year?

by Chris Hanes on Jul 20, 2008 6:39 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah it's

tough to do and it seems like those bunch of guys are so close you could change their rankings every few weeks. Just look how much Holland’s stock has gone up the past few weeks.

by Agreen07 on Jul 20, 2008 6:41 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Well I'd leave off Hurley and Davis

Both will have graduated this year because I can’t see them going back down. So for me:

Feliz
Max
Smoak
Andrus
Holland
Main
Harrison
Beltre
Kiker
Vallejo
Borbon
Hunter
Teagarden
Gomez
Beavan
Boscan
Font
Lemon
Ramirez
Duran
Diamond
JMJ
Ross
Perez

by Hull Fan on Jul 20, 2008 6:58 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

and now looking at that list

I’d switch Perez with Ross, because he’s younger and all ready pitching but we’ll really have to evaluate them after next year.

So what

you start out hating it but then warm up to it eventually and really like it, but then towards the end of the season you really hate the idea so much that you wind up getting a migraine and have to go to the disabled list, where afterwards you never come back the same and are only a shell of the poster you once were?

I'm sorry my parents never had me sarcamsized.

do you loe love it or do you kameron loe love it? Its an honest question and there is a difference.

Probably

somewhere in between the two. Hopefully more pure love though.

I too would hope

that your love of the optimism regarding Holland to in no way shape of form have anything to do with Kameron Loe. If you havent picked up on it yet, I was just giving you a hard time about a typo.

Yep
Both will have graduated this year because I can’t see them going back down.

Yep, they would probably have to have a season ending injury to not get the rest of the AB/IP to use up their rookie status. Ramirez might be a little more of a question, but his status will probably be decided by whether they hang onto Teagarden in the next few days. I’d be surprised if Duran doesn’t get 28 more AB as well.

by zywica on Jul 20, 2008 7:03 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Beavan's drop of velocity

worries me. Gomez has pitched lights out till his sudden disapperance. I’m a big believer in Gomez. If I’m wrong so be it but Beavan’s going to have to prove it to me in Bakersfield next year before he rises on my list.

by Hull Fan on Jul 20, 2008 7:12 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Beavan's drop in velo

shouldn’t really worry you. He isn’t going to throw as hard as he did in HS. It’s not going to happen.

by jparks77 on Jul 20, 2008 7:14 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I expect him to hit 92 to 93 consistantly.

But until he does that I have him just slightly behind Gomez. I hope he does bounce back and there is a lot to pitching in games, and side sessions that he never did in High school. I’m just still skeptical. Besides Gomez ahead of him isn’t a knock on Beavan but more being bullish on Gomez.

by Hull Fan on Jul 20, 2008 7:17 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

If you're right...

He might have been a bad pick, and I’d rather have Porcello.

by Ajax68 on Jul 21, 2008 6:49 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Beavan is learning a new delivery and pitching on four days rest for the first time in his life

Almost all minor league pitchers suffer from a loss of velocity in their first season. Once he gets stronger, more accustomed to his new delivery and used to pitching in a rotation, the velocity will come back. He will be in the low to mid 90s again.

I think Max stays,

has he not shown that he can gun down some runners and manage a game better then we were led to believe? Granted it is only a small sample, but I’m impressed by what I’ve heard and have seen.

Max goes to AAA

when Laird returns. He won’t be traded until the off season.

by Hull Fan on Jul 20, 2008 8:42 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

the last 6 games Ramirez has started behind the plate...

Loss: 14-2
Win: 12-11
Loss: 11-10
Loss: 9-6
Win: 11-10
Loss: 18-7

by oc on Jul 20, 2008 8:52 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

of course

it can’t be the pitcher’s fault.

Millwood in Baltimore...

...did you happen to notice how annoyed he was with Ramirez?

by oc on Jul 20, 2008 9:07 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Mendoza in Texas...

...did you happen to notice the lack of framing behind the plate?

by oc on Jul 20, 2008 9:09 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

excuses

I really doubt a catchers lack of “framing” a pitch is going to lead to the scores you listed above. I think they have to do more with bad pitching than framing or pitch calling. As for Millwood, whenever he is pitching poorly he is annoyed (and annoying).

i'd like to think...

...that a rookie pitcher wouldn’t mind having an open glove to throw at.

Ben Harrison

wasn’t he basically Matt Laporta at FLA?

Josh Hamilton is better than you.

by Longhorn on Jul 20, 2008 6:16 PM CDT   0 recs

Sort of

but Laporta was about 100 times better.

by uthornfan on Jul 20, 2008 6:52 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

100X

yeah, maybe, but you couldn’t tell that from FLA stats.

Josh Hamilton is better than you.

by Longhorn on Jul 20, 2008 6:59 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

College stats can be misleading

Laporta was a consensus high first round pick while Harrison was seen as a 4th-8th round talent. They both hit a lot of homers in college, but as far as being similar talents, it wasn’t even close.

by uthornfan on Jul 20, 2008 7:06 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

by SaltyDawg on Jul 20, 2008 6:44 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

My guess...

...is that he’d pitch out of the bullpen…

He’s pushing 100 innings this season, after just having 42 innings last year…

My guess is that, given his age and repertoire, he’d be a July or August callup to pitch out of the bullpen next year…

by Adam J. Morris on Jul 20, 2008 6:48 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Ideally

Feliz can be what David Price will probably be for Tampa this year. They don’t necessarily need him in the rotation now but he will be a great addition when they call him up and he can pitch out of the bullpen.

That would be the best thing to do in my opinion

Give him some innings out of the bullpen next September and then have him “fight” for a rotation spot in ST of 2010. The fight would basically be the same as Kinsler fighting for a starting spot from a few years ago.

By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

announcer said 89-91. But, he also said that he’s been as high at 95 this year and he’s easily hitting 91, 92 today with an effortless motion and probably is just being a little cautious because of his return from TJ. Not sure how accurate that last part is though…

Well

it’s not like this is the first time that they’ve had some good players, then added a big name guy for draft picks, yeah. I just wish someone in the division were a bit of a pushover. It’s much tougher to get homefield when you have three quality teams in you division.
