Hurley delayed; Minors 7/21
http://rangersblog.dallasnews.com/archives/2008/07/feldman-starts-tonight.html
RHP Scott Feldman will start in place of RHP Eric Hurley tonight. Not sure why. Should know that a bit later.
Feldman is 3-3 with a 4.85 ERA in 14 starts. He was supposed to return to the lineup today as a member of the bullpen, but instead gets back on the hill as a starter. Feldman gave up eight runs on six hits in 3 2/3 innings with five walks and two strikeouts in his last start, against the Angels.
How about a compound Fanshot with minors notes?
Hunter didn't have a pretty start this afternoon, allowing runs in 4 of his 5 innings.

Hopefully the long rest will do him good
Would rather see Hurley not get delayed, though.

Just being cautious?
crossing fingers.
Although, there really is not point pushing him out there if he is not 100% right now. It’s not like the Rangers are in the race.

Hope nothing serious there
damn.
In other developments, Jorge Posada is considering surgery and may be done for the year…

doubtful
I think the Yankees throw in the towel. I think they will be very active in the offseason in both the FA market and trades.

I disagree
I think the Yankees throw in the towel. They are only 4.5 back in the East and 3 back in the wild card. I believe that the Steinbrenner’s will want to put some pressure on Tampa Bay and see how they react.
Now, I don’t think that they will make it this year, but I can see why they would want to go for it anyway.

Why would they?
I agree that they will be very active in the offseason with boatloads of money coming off their books. But they are in the race, and their rotation, if healthy, is just as good as anyone else’s. They have the best pitcher in the league and Wang/Pettitte/Mussina backing him up. And their lineup has been bleh, but it has as much talent as anyone’s.
I said a month or two ago that they weren’t done, and got roundly panned. Well, they still aren’t.

Having said that
if we’re talking specifically about Laird, they have been really strict about hanging onto their pitching, and it would be pretty surprising if they chose Laird as the guy to break that rule.

His stock has plummetted
BA had him as the most disappointing prospect in baseball today. The power is nowhere to be found, and I wonder if much upside is still considered to be there.

Alot of problems
with Tabata..
Injury History, unsustainable BABIP in his good stretches, power has never developed…
He could get it together but then again…

for Laird? Yes.
I’d rather take a flyer on Tabata than some A-ball reliever, that’s for sure. Otherwise a nice return would be somewhere between Beau Jones and Matt Harrison, with perhaps a Mitch Moreland/Jonathan Greene type thrown in.

OK, "throw in the towel"
not quite the correct phrase. With their willingness to hold onto prospects, Wang out until Sept(?) and Posada mulling season ending surgery, I don’t think the Yankees are going to go out and make a big acquisition at the deadline like they normally would do. In that sense, maybe they are throwing in the towel.

Do you think
the general lack of success of their young rotation arms would at least get them to reconsider?

I don't
at least with however much pull Cashman & co have. I don’t think they’re deterred at all. Hughes sucked for a few starts but really his setback is the midsection thing, which could happen to any pitcher. Kennedy was awful, but he’s also Kennedy. Chamberlain is awesome, better than just about anyone they’ve tried to buy and about a gazillion times cheaper, so it doesn’t seem like things are going all that badly.
As for guys like Horne and Rasner, I think that they’re smart enough to know that they’ve gotten what you get with lots of young arms. Some get hurt, some fail, some are okay, and some become anchors of your staff.
The only way I see them getting away from their plan this fast, especially since they are in the process of becoming monsters, with all of the pitching they’re collecting in their system, is if Steinbrenner freaks out like his dad did sometimes. And considering that they talked him off the ledge over the Santana deal and through the early season struggles, I have to think that they can keep him level headed right now, with the team playing pretty well and making up ground.

I agree
I just think that they would largely be doing that even if they were having a great season. I think that they want to hang on to their young pitching and that they really don’t have much else to trade. Austin Jackson and Jesus Montero are about it, maybe Melky.

I think they have a glut
of young bullpen arms that could really help this team out this year and beyond.

Yeah agree
about that. Do you think that they want to deal them, though? The best two are probably Robertson and Melancon, and I don’t get the feeling that they intend to deal them(especially for Laird), but some of the others could move.

That's
a couple of pretty intriguing arms right there. Both have talent and are performing pretty well at the moment as 18 year olds. Grullon still has that walk thing, but they are ones to watch imo.

Podraza dropped from SPO roster
Wonder if it means we’ll see Bianucci debut tonight.
Also, Tatusko’s been told he’ll start the rest of the season ...
"To pitch seven innings like that felt great," Tatusko said. So, I guess in Clinton now it’s Beavan and Main and pray for rain.
.
Earlier in the year, the organization tweaked Tatusko‘s pitching mechanics and now have let him go back to his old style of pitching.
.
"Pitching as a lot to do with comfort and going back to my old mechanics and things I’ve done a lot before a lot I felt more comfortable and in turn I felt a lot more confident," Tatusko said. "They’re gradually building up my pitch count. They’ve told me they are going to take it slow with me because they want me too keep me as a starter the rest of the year." said Tatusko.

He was perfect through 7...
and then I jinxed him. I showed up in the top of the 8th (wasn’t going to go because work was crazy and it was hot) but there was no way I was going to miss his perfect game. Then Chris Shelton went deep on the 1st pitch in the 8th. Sorry John!

RHP Eric Hurley said his arm is sore. He felt it a day or two after his rehab start in Double-A Frisco.
Hurley didn’t look concerned and said he’d be ready for his next start. It also means the club can keep him on the DL and not make the additional roster move until Hurley goes back on the mound.
