Feldman up, Teagarden down, Hurley still on the d.l.
Per the DMN blog, Scott Feldman has been recalled and will make tonight's start, while Taylor Teagarden has been sent down and will head to Beijing.
I'm glad to hear that Teagarden is getting to go play for the Olympic squad...while I'm sure he's disappointed not to stick on the major league roster, I think it is one of those experiences that is just too good to pass up, and I'd bet that, in the coming years, it will be one of those things he's glad worked out the way it did.
Also per the DMN blog, Eric Hurley has a sore arm, and expects to make his next start, but won't be activated for now.

Teagarden
Could someone with more knowledge on the subject tell me how the Olympics will work in regards to options and service time. I imagine TT won’t get any ML service time while gone but will his time away count towards his time in the minors as it pertains to options. If he doesn’t spend more than 20 days in the minors from the time we purchased his contract he won’t burn an option for the year. For a guy like him options shouldn’t matter but then again we probably said that about Jason Botts and Nelson Cruz a few years back. Wouldn’t we like to have an option on Cruz this year instead of having to make a do or die decision on him?

Going for an Olympic medal is far cooler than anything he could do in Texas over the next month or so

I can't tell you how jealous I am of Teagarden.
Dallas HS stud, UT fame, Rangers, now the Olympics. That’s pretty much how I planned the rest of my life at age 15.
Go Rangers!

Madrigal
So they have kept Madrigal for now? I would rather they keep him over Nippert.

Nippert
Out of options and has already been DFAd so you risk losing him not only to waivers but FA if you try and send him down. He has too good an arm to just let go when you could option a guy like Warner down.

Not sure
how great of an arm he has. .390 BA against, has only looked OK once in relief this year.

results
The results haven’t been there but from all the Rangers pitchers I have seen this year he looks to have some of the filthiest stuff on the staff. A fastball with good movement at 95+ is a good starting point. If we can just determine what he is, starter or reliever, and give him some consistency I think he could be a integral part of this thing going forward. Plus hes only 25 so hes not exactly an aging vet.

hit 98 during his
7 inning relief appearance. However, I didn’t see any movement on his fastball and I think that is the problem with him. Below average movement so he needs to keep the ball down. When he gets it up he gets tagged even when he sits at 94-95 and i think his high whip in the majors and minors supports this observation. I bet that is what the rangers have been working on with him this year mechanically, trying to figure out what he needs to do to keep the ball down. The rangers only have to keep him for another 5 weeks before the rosters expand so I say he is worth the risk so that we can keep him and work with him during the winter.

He would have to be on the 40 man roster this winter.

I understand the situation
How many chances do you give Nippert? When he is bad, he is really bad. There are many pitchers who have had great arms but couldn’t get hitters out.
Do you realize that since Madrigal’s debacle vs the Yankees, he has pitched 7 2/3 innings with only 1 ER. Of course RW keeps going to Jamey Wright.

Im not dissing Warner
Hes been great. Hes got a very bright future with the club. But thats one of the things options are for. Unfortunately you sometimes get sent down for someone who may not be producing as well but because of your certainty and their uncertainty the club may choose to go with the other guy. Nipperts arm is too good a thing to give up on this year, especially this year. Plus lets not forget Warner was in AA to start the year and has only been a pitcher for a couple years now. It wouldn’t hurt for him to get more time in the minors

Hurley....
Take as you will… but Hurley’s “sore arm” is not serious. He will start against Oakland sometime this weekend.

So...
Did they just want to leave him on the DL to avoid having to make another decision on who to send down?
