A question
From Peter King's column today:
7. I think in the interest of full disclosure, I want to report that my daughter, Mary Beth King, has taken a PR internship with the Seattle Seahawks for the season. It's going to sound hollow to say I had nothing to do with it, but I didn't. She applied without telling me. New family rule: Mary Beth does not share conversations with Matt Hasselbeck or Mike Holmgren with her father.
Am I an inherently bad person if my first reaction to reading this was to go over to the "email Peter King" box and try to formulate a question to send him referencing Kathleen Decker, Stephon Marbury vis-a-vis Matt Hasselbeck, or "Truck Party"?
Isiah Thomas and Kathleen Decker did for pro sports interns what Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky did for White House interns...turn the job description into a punchline.

Giants are dumb
they don’t need picks they need a replacement for Strahan. And they could have easily got Jason Taylor if they made that Shockey trade sooner.
Josh Hamilton is better than you.

After they overpay for Wolf, will they even have a farm system left? I’m wondering if their A+/AA teams will just cry uncle and dissolve.

Peter King's daughter, eh?
Wow. I bet she’s a real looker.
I’m setting the over/under on her at 175, and, personally, I’m taking the over.

That's just something that guys who can only bed fat chicks say.
This joke has been brought to you by the scene in Liar, Liar in which Jim Carey informs his child that only ugly people say, “it’s what’s on the inside that counts.”

You've never gone fat?
Oh come on. It’s so easy. You don’t have to waste and energy pouring on “charm” or telling “jokes”. And you certainly don’t have to “pay for dinner”. And once you get home you can give a large girl 37 seconds of your worst moves, and you know what she’ll be afterwards? Grateful, that’s what.
All this fat girl talk is actually giving me a craving for a tubby one…

So...
This is off-topic for this thread, but it’s not worth a diary and I don’t know where else to put it… but I just wanted to announce that I have just lost what little respect I had left for TR Sullivan.
From his latest mailbag:
What are your thoughts on the Rangers trading Michael Young? Many teams need a quality shortstop (i.e. Dodgers and Red Sox) and maybe they would part with a Clayton Kershaw or a Clay Buchholz.
—Drew T., Plano, TexasYoung has a no-trade clause in his contract. If you do trade him, you need to get Major League-ready players and not more Bakersfield/Clinton superstars. You need to get three good ones, and they better get here immediately because you’re cutting the heart out of your team by trading Young. His tangibles may not be what they once were, but his intangibles are beyond the measure of a sabrematician. His future position may be in doubt but not his future leadership. Championship teams needs great young players/pitchers but they also need a definite heart and soul. Guys like Mike Lowell and Tim Salmon (2002 Angels) come to mind.
UGH. e tu, TR?

I have no problem
with anything TR said.

Even the part where he says:
you need to get Major League-ready players and not more Bakersfield/Clinton superstars.
You don’t see a problem with that? He basically just insinuated that prospects who are still in the lower minors don’t mean anything. That’s Joe Morgan-esqe, especially when you realize that’s where a lot of our best young talent is right now.
And then there’s the fact that the whole Michael Young’s leadership-outweighs-his-lack-of-production thing is a giant load of crock as well – although it admittedly is a load of crock we’ll have to live with for the next 5 years (at a pricetag of $80 Million bucks, lucky us).
So really, TR is wrong on just about every level there, except for his passing comment about the no-trade clause. And instead of educating the guy who asked the question with any details about MY’s no-trade clause, or even mentioning that his outragious salary would make him hard to trade, he just fed him a giant line of propaganda and even tossed in an assinine comment about minor league talent to boot. That was just some very, very poor writing, IMO.

+1
That is why I stopped reading TR’s mailbag columns a long time ago – he does his worst work in those columns. Evan Grant’s newsletters are much more informative and insightful.
Another thing I would add though is it’s kind of a stretch for TR to be comparing Michael Young to Tim Salmon – Young has had his glory years as well, but he’s not quite on the same plane as Salmon (whose career OPS+ is 128 to Young’s 103).

Not really
That’s just what I took it to mean. The entire quote again:
If you do trade him, you need to get Major League-ready players and not more Bakersfield/Clinton superstars. You need to get three good ones, and they better get here immediately because you’re cutting the heart out of your team by trading Young.
He’s saying he doesn’t think A-ball prospects, no matter how good they are, isn’t a good enough return for Young. So conversely, I conclude that he doesn’t think too much of A-ball prospects, because they’re not going to make an immediate impact on the team in Arlington. Which is stupid.

Michael Young
has been the heart and soul of this team since he came here in 2000.
Of course, before he came here this team was a regular playoff team, so I’m not sure what heart and soul are worth these days.
