Guardado possibly on the move?
The Cardinals' pursuit of a lefthanded reliever to fortify their bullpen has intensified as the club has expressed interest in Baltimore closer George Sherrill, sources said. Sherrill, an All-Star who has 29 saves and a 3.89 ERA for the Orioles, has drawn increased attention from several teams, including the Milwaukee Brewers. The Cardinals have declined to discuss specific candidates. They have said lefthanded relief is one area they are looking to improve before the non-waiver trade deadline. Another possibility is Texas lefty reliever Eddie Guardado. The Rangers have interest in Class AA starter Jess Todd.

Jess Todd
Looks like an undersized, RH, sinkerballer SP with good control and no K pitch, that is currently putting up a real nice ERA in AA as a 22 year old after posting some dominant starts in A-ball early this season. I’d take that for Guardado and be happy.
Warner Madrigal makes Ezequiel Astacio look downright handsome.

I dont think eddie has blown an 8th inning lead all year
JD should mention that

I'd be pretty surprised
if they could get Todd for Guardado, but this illustrates why I think it’s a good idea to entertain moving Guardado.

teams always overpay for LH
relief at the deadline. In fact that is why the rangers won’t have any after they move him; they always trade it away. I think Ballard gets called up to be the lefty specialist eventually replaced by Murray if he gets healthy…

That's true
Todd still seems like too much, but one of those things that always surprises you is just how much people get for good lefty relievers.

but this year
there are a number of quality lefty arms on the market. I would think a pitcher like Todd could grab a better pitcher than Guardardo, but I could be wrong.

A 0.91 WHIP & a .180 BAA?
Does it get much better than that?

Nope
The downsides are that he is only signed for this year and that his left shoulder needs injections of WD-40 thrice daily, but he’s excelling in a key role in a tough pitching environment.

I like that deal....
I think we should consider this.
then Move Frankie to 8th inning duty and have feldman (considering he won’t be in the rotation) and Wright work in middle relief.

TRADE HIM!!!!!
Yes, he has been fabulous this year. But he’s about to turn 38 and his left arm is held together by duct tape and glue.
I tip my hat to the guy for stepping up and getting the most out of what’s left in his tank.
But, unless you are talking about ELITE closers like Rivera, Nathan, Papelbon, K-Rod, etc., the year-to-year performances of most relief pitchers are wildly unpredictable (see: Benoit, Joaquin and Wilson, Christopher John).
I don’t care if you get a stud prospect for him. You probably won’t. But get whatever you can. Take the best offer that you get between now and July 31. But trade him!
If he is on this roster after the deadline, then JD is a damned fool.
This team is no more of a playoff contender than I am a contender to play the villain in the next Batman movie.
Trade Eddie. Trade Cat. Trade Byrd. Trade Vazquez. If you only get 75 cents on the dollar for those guys, who cares? Squeeze all that you can out of the other GM’s, and trade them.
If anyone is stupid enough to take on a hefty portion of the contract, trade Millwood (good luck). Trade Padilla.
This team is on the right path. Don’t turn down any opportunities to keep throwing prospects into the system. In the near future, there will be a time to stand pat, or to be a buyer. But that time is NOT July of 2008.
