McCarthy - Minors 7/22
McCarthy in OKC late tonight. Hopefully this is his last start before joining the Rangers.
AZL Rangers cruise to a 7-2 win over the AZL A's behind nice outings from Ben Henry and Bobby Wilkins, who each threw 3 shutout innings.
Schlact in Frisco. Phillips in Bakersfield.
Anyone know why Boscan was taken out after just 0.2 IP tonight?
Nothing fancy here. Nothing fancy here. Nothing fancy here. It would be good if they had a word counter. Nothing fancy here.

shroomer mentioned elsewhere that Boscan rolled his ankle

Shroomer's post in the LSB Community Prospect Project: Mid-Season #16
Wilfredo Boscan just rolled an ankle backing up homeplate during the first inning fo the Spokane game. He was in some pain, couldn’t put any weight on it. He might be on the shelf a while. Yoon-hee Nam takes over with 2 outs gone in the top of the first inning. Time for a Kyle O’Campo promotion? Font supposedly was on the verge of getting assigned to Spokane – good time to put him in the rotation.

Wilfredo Boscan
He was pulled from the Spokane game in the first inning (0.2 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 2 K) after facing only 4 batters. Anyone know why?

McCarthy
I don’t know when exactly he started his rehab assignment but I would imagine they are going to use the entire 30 days and then even possibly option him to OKC for more time to be sure before bringing him up. I expect to see him around the 10th of August which would still give him 6 weeks here in the bigs to start every 5 days.

Frisco
is off to a decent start against Trevor Cahill, with 5 hits and 2 runs in the first two innings. Andrus, Borbon and Vallejo might want to get acquainted with him now. They may be dealing with him for a while.

So I saw Nick Adenhart is starting against OKC
and hadn’t seen his numbers this year. Does he suck as bad as his numbers say he does b.c. I remember last year he was a big time prospect.

they called him up on three days rest for an emergency start
one of the strangest moves I have ever seen, especially with a top prospect. Not only did they rush him to the bigs, but they did it on short rest. For his sake I hope they didnt ruin him, just enough to where they have to trade him for something of little consequence and he plays up to his potential elsewhere.

Has anyone noticed/mentioned
the odd trend with Lemon lately? In his last ten games he’s hitting .392 (and 40% XBH) but with a 0/13 BB/SO ratio. I guess he’s experiencing what super easy contact can do to your strikezone management.
Offense doesn't doubt me, but my first and primemost thing is defense and punt return and kickoff return
by zywica on Jul 22, 2008 10:59 PM CDT 0 recs
I think
Scott Lucas had a note about that in his wrap up today…yep, here’s the quote:
Marcus Lemon’s double and two singles give him 11 hits in his last 20 at-bats. Fantastic. But here’s an odd statistic:
Lemon had 39 walks in his first 232 plate appearances (14.4%).
Lemon has no walks in his last 64 appearances.
Assuming his approach hasn’t changed and he’s receiving a similar mix of pitches, the odds of this walkless streak are about 1 in 21,000. (I seriously doubt either assumption is true, but I need them for the math to work.) He’s batting .397/.406/.571 since his last walk.
Odd, indeed.
Time you enjoy wasting was not wasted.

I was certainly impressed w/ him last year
Hope Holland doesn’t experience the same pains in the Cal League next year.
I still think that Phillips’ FB-curve repertoire assuming that he still has the stuff that he had last year, will get him to the bigs, being that he is a southpaw.

Final Line From OKC-SLC Game
OKC 7, SLC 4. 9 hits by each team. No errors on either team.
All 4 SLC runs came off McCarthy in the 1st.
McCarthy’s final line: 3.2 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 1 BB, 1SO, 0 HR. 63 pitches, 36 strikes.
Arias, Laird, Cruz, Gold, Metcalf and Duran all drove in runs for the Redhawks. Cruz (32) and Gold (15) homered; both were 2 out jacks.
As far as McCarthy’s outing, I’m happy that he made it through an outing without getting injured or experiencing shoulder or elbow tightness. Not a great start back, but it’s a start back nonetheless. That’s what is important right now for him.
Keep on mashing, Nellie!

OT: Mendoza
We need to send him down to AAA and bring up Hunter
Mendoza had his “best stuff” and he still pitched like shit.
If not Hunter then bring up Feliz after his next start, nothing to lose with the way Mendoza pitches

Whoa there
tap the brakes on hunter and especially feliz. These guys should not be realistic options, if anything run the mendoza experiment until they are satisfied that he cant do it long term and move him back to the pen where he was very good and switch roles with nippert.
I mean I know they were a fan of tandem starting back in the day, but this is getting ridiculous, move nippert to starter and mendoza back to the pen and be rid of this coincidental tandem thing we got going on.

What is there to lose?
How about screwing up a guy’s development by rushing him? How about screwing up his service time by starting the clock? How about screwing up the 40 man roster because you call up yet another guy not on there yet? How about throwing a guy who isn’t ready to the wolves and watching your team get buried again, simply because you’re bored watching a different guy lose?

Hunter
It’s about time to shut him down or throw him in the pen for the rest of the season. I know the consensus is he’s an innings eater due to his frame. But hes a 21/22 year old pitcher who threw 117 innings last year for Arkansas and is already at 138 innings for the year.
Not to mention the 40 man implications.
