Well now, 58% said no to yesterdays deal, so it isn't gonna happen now is it. This next one I think makes sense for both teams.
Breaking news: The Texas Rangers trade minor league catcher Taylor Teagarden and Eddie Guardado for minor league pitcher Clay Buchholz.
Face it, straight up will never happen even if T.T. is probably the 2nd best catcher in the minors. That's why you add Eddie G in this deal. Eddie is gone after 2008 and I doubt we get compensation for him. So basically you are trading the 2nd best catcher in the minors for a top 5 pitcher in the minors. Both are major league ready which will entice both teams. Boston needs an offensive/defensive whiz like Mr. Teagarden to replace Varitek.
This deal makes even more sense for us. We get an "Ace potential" pitcher to plug into an un healthy rotation. We figure out our log jam at catcher by penciling in Laird as your starter(as hard as that is for me to write) and Salts McGee as your back up, at least for next year. Salts needs major defensive work, but Boston isn't going to jump on this offer if Salts is added. Next we have MaxRam who will find his at bats through first base/DH/3rd catcher. Come 2010, your starting catcher and backup will be Salts and MaxRam, which I think we can all live with.
Even though I love this kid T.T., to get such an awesome pitcher back he has to be included. So Go on vote on this one.
Also I'd like to add that their is big risk on both sides of this trade, sorta like the Hammy/Volquez trade of last year. Both have tremendous potential.

I would trade ANYONE in this organization
for Buchholz. Maybe even ANYTWO, and I’d throw Everyday Eddie or CJ in along with ‘em
Tea is a cut above the rest of our catchers.
If we expect to ever have a good pitching staff a catcher like Tea would be instrumental in keeping it that way.
I would love the trade if it included any of our other catchers and Eddie +.
Laird for President
I would love the trade if it included any of our other catchers
One reason why Boston doesn’t even get back to us.

some of these have been worth consideration
but this one just made me laugh.
I am sure they have someone over on their site with the same trade, only with Charlie Zink’s name instead of Buccholz.
yep...
Buch’s taking his big-league lumps right now.
he’ll be back on his wagon next year.

which incidentally
is probably why now is exactly the time when a team like Texas should go after a Phil Hughes or Clay Buchholz. While in AA or AAA, they are untouchable like Feliz is now, and after they are established and dominant there is no reason to. But right now, public opinion on these guys is at a lull (fair weather fans are thinking maybe they aren’t really that good), and they aren’t contributing to the teams immediate needs.
This is when TB went after Matt Garza – he was untouchable until a couple of okay not great debut years in Minny.
ive thought the same thing the last few weeks.
the NYY are in a playoff race and they need some serious help: they might be interested in a deal like Laird + Bradley + a minor leaguer (not one of our pitchers) for Hughes

I don't like oc
But he’s right about this. If you are going to do these at least have them make a little bit of sense.

You're way off here
you’re dealing a good catching prospect for like the 2nd best pitching prospect in baseball. How about Feliz, Teagarden, and Beltre just to get them to return our call?
Time you enjoy wasting was not wasted.
Does everyone undervalue Tea?
He is an allstar/MVP caliber player if he pans out. Im just not sure why we shouldn’t expect that back.
The bloggerformelyknownasBigBaddBubbaJ
He might develop into an all-star catcher
but I think it’s quite a stretch to assume he has any MVP caliber seasons in him.
the problem is
Buchholz is an allstar/Cy Young caliber pitcher if he pans out (which I think is far more likely). And that is far more valuable.
I think if the Rangers really think that Tea is going to be an allstar caliber player, they don’t trade him.
You understand that
Buchholz is a top 5 prospect in baseball?

Do u understand that that means jack crap?
Kinsler wasn’t a top 5 prospect in baseball, and Im sure others are with me that will say he is a top 5 major leaguer this year. Well, at least a case could be made for him.

It does mean jack crap
It may not in 4 years but RIGHT NOW it means everything. If you can’t understand that then you should really stop posting this jack crap.

Ummm...
It actually does mean something. It means he has a better shot of becoming a great ML player. There will always be a exception to the rule, but you can’t just throw his talent out the window and say he has the same chances of doing something that every other player has.
