Plaschke: Scioscia, the former Dodgers catcher, is the model manager who has created an atmosphere of winning.
Junior:It's that simple. Mike Scioscia brings a Glade Plug-In labeled "Winning™" into the clubhouse and everyone who breathes it in gains 15 points in average.

Blalock
There’s no point trading him. His value is, at best, ambiguous.
The org will keep him as a cheap option for this year and next, because there are no better free agents this winter, and there’s no 3B depth in the minors.
You want to move Young there, you still have to sort out the next SS. And a long-term fix is going to require most of 2009…
Andrus, Vallejo, Lemon, even Duran: all are viable SS options about a calendar year from now.
So keep Blalock, and the possibility he has a nice year before FA, as your 3B until then.

there's no harm...
...in shopping hank and seeing what his value is… if someone is willing to moderate to slightly above value prospects for him then you absolutely take it… you move vazquez back out there, let him hit .265 the rest of the year, and find a stop gap for next year… either way, there is nothing wrong with putting hank on a hook and see what bites… again, i’m starting to get the feeling like we don’t make any moves this year, but i’m hoping i’m wrong…

I think people forget that Blalock was not just a decent prospect, he was the #1 prospect in all of the minors. Higher ranked than ANYONE we currently have in our system. He’s still young and has loads of potential- and has actually shown it on the big league level. We have no 3b to fill his shoes. Trade him for a moderately valued prospect? Like someone whose ceiling would never touch what Blalock already has done? I am absolutely dumbfounded by all of this “trade Blalock” talk.

i think...
....he’d do better with fresh start somewhere, he’d get us back good prospects, and after next season, 3b belongs to FOTF…

The Giants?...
...do they think they’re contenders?
by oc on Jul 24, 2008 10:55 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
No but
Hank isn’t exactly a rental player. He is still young and would immediately improve that anemic offense.

any1 in the NL West is a contender.

poor NL West.

They just need offense..
They could be with just a little better offense..
Hank seems like a great fit there..
Too bad Noah Lowry had to get hurt… anyone know what the deal is with him?

I say too bad about Lowry
not necessarily because I would want Lowry, but that just lessens their pitching depth and maybe their willingness to part with Matt Cain.

I'd hold firm
demanding Lincecum. If it weren’t for the stupid Pete Incaviglia rule, I’d think we could also get Posey as well.

wow
that’s ridiculous. I hope you’re kidding because there is no way that the rangers would get Lincecum without having to part with a lot more than just Blalock. Think about adding Andrus and Font at least.

Roy Halladay
http://www.nj.com/yankees/index.ssf/2008/07/ny_yankees_in_the_market_for_a.html
ROY HALLADAY, Blue Jays RHP
The whispers just won’t go away. Halladay is apparently unhappy in Toronto and has let management know it, and management has apparently responded by doing some quiet surveying of teams (such as St. Louis and the Dodgers) that are far, far away from the AL East in an effort to see what it could get for the 2003 Cy Young Award winner. Apparently, the returns other teams are getting for top-talent pitchers such as C.C. Sabathia, Rich Harden and Erik Bedard has inspired the Blue Jays to at least find out what it could get for one of the best pitchers in the American League. It remains unlikely that they’d deal him, but you never know.
Let’s see what we can do here…. Jays need a catcher, their choice of TT/Max/Salt… Need a SS, Elvis…. Need a 2B, Vallejo…. Need a OF, JMJ? and probably a low level arm such as Kiker.
Would you do it? Salt/Elvis/Vallejo/JMJ/Kiker for Halladay?

if i thought we were an ace away from contending.
which i dont think we are.

I doubt it happens
but if you managed to trade for Halladay, then signed Sheets this winter, that’s a formidable rotation.
Time you enjoy wasting was not wasted.

its more than
formidable
Think if Neftali ends up being what it’s looking like he might be, wow.
by the end of 2009: Halladay, Sheets, Feliz, Hurley, and (it doesn’t really matter with the first 4)
That’s just a dream.

I had a dream some times back where we traded Hammy for Halladay
Needless to say, I woke up a very confused man.
by Telegraph on Jul 24, 2008 12:05 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
I'd certainly have to consider that
Especially since Halladay’s penchant for pitching complete games makes it almost like you’re getting both a starting pitcher and a relief pitcher.
Knowing our luck, we would do that and Halladay’s elbow would explode into 8,675,309 pieces in his second inning as a Ranger.

Yeah
There is little cost to us for trading a catcher – we’re going to trade 2 of them eventually anyway.
They’ll want a 2nd top prospect, so bye-bye Elvis.
Vallejo and Kiker are the type of young guys who you give up in deals like this. Sometimes they turn into Feliz, other times they turn into Arias.
JMJ is a throw in I won’t lose sleep over
Of course, I think a similar package maybe could get Grienke from KC, and he’s younger and cheaper. I would pursue that option first. I like the approach though.

I just don't see...
what’s so special about Greinke. He’s solid, and a good story – but I don’t see a front of the rotation arm when I look at him.

Greinke over Roy?
excuse me but isnt one coming of a season of crazy and doesnt have 2 years of service time left and solid and the other is one one of the best pitchers in baseball. why would greinke be the first option? for a similar package?
holy crap. perspective ppls. perspective.

Halladay is a free agent
after 2010. Which means you are trading two top prospects for two years of a #1. Thats great, and I’d be okay with it, but you better make sure you can win in 2009 or 2010.
Grienke has several years beyond that, and could probably be tied down longer. You’re trading youth for a guy not too much older. There are advantages to that deal.
I know some people are anti-Grienke, but I have a feeling he’s going to be one of the best pitchers in the AL for a long time.

This might sound dumb
but i don’t think Halladay will be able to produce the same numbers in the Texas heat over the period of a full season.

Turned 31 in May
On March 16, 2006, Halladay signed a $40 million, 3-year contract that will keep him with the club through 2010.
