First half THT Awards

I meant to post this earlier, then forgot...but John Barten has the First Half THT Awards up...

And he includes a lengthy quote from me regarding one of his first half award winners, Vicente Padilla...

Focus

Why am I bothered by the suggestion that losing focus is Padilla’s problem? Perhaps it is because the idea that some players can focus harder, and thus produce better results, in clutch situations has been so derided. Is there a distinction that makes those two ideas (players can lose focus, but they can’t focus harder) consistent?

so he gives Kinsler the AL MVP nod

but says that Brian Roberts should have started at 2B in the ASG..? That doesn’t make much sense…

that's not what it says

just that Roberts should have been there

that's not how I read it
He [Pedroia] also got the starting nod in this week’s All-Star game thanks to the generosity of the Red Sox Nation. Brian Roberts should have been there instead,

The ‘there’ in that sentence points back to the ‘starting nod’.

An attempt at clarification

I meant to say that he should have been there, not that he should have started.

But I think it would have been defensible to start him ahead of Kinsler because I don’t see the AS game as being a reward for a good first half, but rather I vote based on AS game to AS game. With the first half MVP award, 2007 is irrelevant.

Geesh Adam…you’re getting as bad as Newberg with your self-promoting, back patting. :))

Hey, Norm took my call the other day concerning trading for Ian Kennedy. He was touting Laird. I suggested Guardado and Salty.

Chris Davis could hit 30 hr's this year

Has any player ever hit 20 home runs in the minors and 30 in the majors in the same year?
