Thomas Diamond: Minors 7/25
Well, tyd whined like a little girl, so here is another minors thread.
Diamond is the headliner tonight and he hasn't disappointed thus far, going 3 innings of one hit shutout ball with 4 Ks and no BB.
Ballard goes for OKC against a Salt Lake lineup that went deep 5 times last night. My prediction....Nelson Cruz one ups the whole Salt Lake team and hits 6 home runs tonight.
Tatusko has been roughed up early for 4 runs in 4 innings and Clinton trails Great Lakes 4-1 in the 5th inning.
Richard Bleier goes for Spokane tonight at 9:00 PM.
And we have a Glenn Swanson sighting in Bakersfield. Swanson, 25, will make the start for the Blaze.
No Shroomer=No Probables
you happy now tyd?

I actually forgot
I’m already a little tipsy and going to see Step Brothers at 10:00 tonight. I got a busy schedule. You’re going to have to carry this thread tonight.

As soon as CJ and/or Eddie is traded
Mr. Diamond, you’re the next call up. Can’t wait.
He’s going to be one nasty 7th/8th inning guy, and hopefully, soon, the closer.
Josh Hamilton is better than you.

I doubt hunter comes up
messes up the 40, which I believe is starting to get crowded again. He doesnt need to be added for like two years and has pitched a lot of innings this year already. He might force his way onto the scene next year, but there are other guys like diamond who would most likely get the call first.

Another bad outing today.
He’s spent the last two back to earth. Not a bad pitcher, by any means, but not a legit ace, either.

AdMo’s talkin’ smack. Does that make him a really good #2 then? Did you think Josh was just an average Joe when he broke down in the middle of his first full season? This is BigEd’s first full season to be fair – i’m happy to withhold judgement until the season is out.

Diamond called up
Not a chance.
He’s rehabbing. Plus he needs to stay in a starter’s routine.
September, maybe, after the minor league season ends.

It wouldn’t surprise me if it took all of 2009 to get Diamond crisp enough for a big league call-up. I’m hoping he’s a viable arm come 2010 Spring Training. Anything before then would be gravy.

my sentiments exactly
I can’t believe people think he’s gonna be ready in 2 months; that is just absurd. It took FrankieFran 2 years to regain his velocity and control after his surgery; and you didnt start seeing the results (98 heat, better control, an nasty secondary stuff) until 2months into the season. Last year FF was a shadow of his former self, just an average 7th inning guy. So, my prediction is that , since Diamond will turn 27 in 2010, they will use him as a bullpen guy so that he might be used by midseason next year as a 7th inning type, like FF in 07 – a safe spot to work out his issues. Who knows, maybe in 2010, he can become our closer, but right now, I think history shows to think small.

sorry man
His whip is off the charts, he just switched to a curveball in the last year, his velo is down 4-5 and he has no control. His line typically looks like this: 4ip/4h/4bb/4so. He is precisely where FrankieFran was at this stage, which is to say a long way off. Not to mention he needs to lose the 25 pounds he gained during rehab – lots of good sex, home cooking, mars bars, and newcastle i guess.

I don't know
that he’ll be ready in two months, and I’m not sure it will take as long as shroomer suggested, but his WHIP is not the best way to judge that. A player returning from that much time off is going to be on a statistical roller coaster for a while.
Time you enjoy wasting was not wasted.

he looked pretty sharp the first few innings friday night. location was good, looked better than i’ve seen from him in person in a long time. he just looked like he lost it in the 4th,

Diamond's final line
IP: 5.0
H: 3
R: 1
ER: 1
BB: 4
K: 4
Three of the walks came in the 4th inning after a long bottom half of the 3rd for Frisco.
Announcers mentioned he was sitting 90-91.

pretty good line
i figure the walks get chalked up to endurance at this point and thats no worries. im actually pretty excited to see what the bionic arm does the rest of the season.

Seriously though
I have wondered how players keep their motivation going when things are so close, say in AA/AAA. It has got to be the most tedious thing to take 70 round trip bus rides a year, then go to mexico for winter league for a month, for 3-4 years, and play in backwater stadiums to small crowds and garish shark or godzilla mascots and bobblehead giveaway nights. At some point I know I would just get sick of the agonizingly sureal routine….

I think it started with the 07 haul
and a little with the 06 take. But they whiffed on some of their top 10 guys in 06 and failed to sign about 4 or 5 or their top 15 last year, a major blunder. But they did had a great 07 Intl. haul, with Perez ,Suero, Tellis, Garcia, Caballo, and Ventura. However, this year they inexplicably whiffed on their intl. haul signing only one major guy, Vicente Escobar (lhp, VZ, 350k – 3rd rd money). I hope someone asks DJ why they whiffed on the intl. haul during Newberg night….

Isn’t anyone chitting the chat about TR’s piece?
20 of 29 teams have called about catchers. That delights me. If Tea got dealt, would he be called back from Olympic duties?
And Bradley…Bradley who’ll be wearing another uni in August. JD’s been consistent down the line about hanging onto him, but he’s just so much less relatively useful than starting pitching.
Gladly, gladly, anyone in the front office would take a decent pitching haul in exchange for that DH/RF bat.
Be the Beane, Daniels. Be the Beane.

I got the feeling that DJ was playing it coy
saying amazing things like” wright Guardado padilla millwood and Blalock are not being actively shopped” or some such. Come on, trying to boost the value I think, which is exactly what he should do. I think Bradley is pivotal to the offense though Davis might be able to hit behind Hamiliton if bradley is traded but he is so green and the league will adjust. Bradley is just a beast and the rangers can keep him healthy by rotating him OF/DH. With Boggs and Murphy here, we have the chops to cover when he is the DH. I think Padilla is the major chip but if you trade him you might start 4/1/10 with no top rotation guys and that would get ugly real fast.
