five trades in five days
Well yesterdays fantasy trade went how I expected with almost everybody saying no. And that is the way it should have gone. I just like to make sure everyone here is on the same page about our future.
Breaking news: The Rangers trade Marlon Byrd and Eddie G for Chicago Cubs' Donald Veal.
I definitely know they don't trade Veal straight up for either player, but I think this trade works nicely.
Chicago gets the right handed hitting outfielder that can cover center they've been looking for and another arm for the pen plus possibly two picks for G Money.
And we get a potential above average pitcher, that's a lefty I might add.
Remember, JD tried to get Gallagher and Murton for Byrd. So remember that when voting. Now they are in a pennant race and could use him and Eddie Money. I did think about adding Boggs, but he isn't a lou Pinella type player.

How do you know they definitely wouldn't trade Veal for one of those guys?
Veal has been damn pedestrian in AA. He’s been getting batted around pretty good (almost a hit per inning, 4.11era), plus he’s walking too many dudes (58 in 111 innings). And it’s not like he’s young for the league. He turns 24 in September.
I’m pretty sour on Veal.

I’m pretty sour on Veal.
Gagree.
If you’ve ever seen how they raise veal, you would never consider eating it.

I guess I dont know why they wouldn't, going strictly on instinct Dirk.
I just feel like there is no way they trade a top five prospect in there system for either one of those players. Both our guys have been mediocre at best, imo, and they are 30+ years old. I mean would you trade a lefty 24 year old for one of them?

He's no longer a top-five prospect, imo
And which hand he throws with is of little concern to me. I care about his ability to get batters out.
He’s a C+ kind of prospect.
I’d trade him for Eddie in about half a second if I was Chicago, and I wouldn’t do that deal if I was Texas. Veal is still living off the propecty hype he got when he burst onto the scene a year or two back. He looks awful busty to me right now.
Not trying to bust balls, just chiming in with how I see these guys in terms of value.

Top 5 prospect
He wouldn’t crack our top 15 most likely. Their farm system is depleted so their #5 doesn’t necessarily hold the same position as say our #5
Bryan Smith (12:17:17 PM PT): Justin Smoak and Josh Hamilton. The AL West might just have found their Bash Brothers, v. 2.0.

A trade that I want to see
Trade a hitter or bullpen arm to the Marlins for one of their young starting pitchers. they’re basically 6-7 deep in players either in the rotation or close to getting off the D.L. and back in the rotation. I know a lot of their pitchers might be “damaged goods” but i’d love the rangers to take a flyer on one of them: Sanchez, Josh Johnson, Andrew Miller, or vanden Hurk. Their bullpen needs help and so does their lineup.

Johnson or Sanchez
I know they’ve been injury prone, but if we could somehow center a deal around Laird for them, that’s be a steal…

was a good thing they were playing the Rockies
who are playing hot again right now. Hopefully, this performance lowers his value enough that we could get him straight up for one of our catchers….
