Part 2 of our trade for the day
This one comes from Boomer and it got me thinking.
Breaking news: The Rangers trade Gerald Laird for Homer Bailey.
Now I think Bailey would get lit up but he is worth the flyer. I dont see Laird fitting in long term here and I doubt he has a big bounce back type year that makes us go " Damn it, we shouldn't have traded him."
We Get a pitcher who is major league ready, but hasn't seen any success at this level.

Thanks NYTXFAN
I think it might take Laird + another player but I would do it.

I would...
But the Reds won’t. Bailey may be down right now, but it would take more than OMFT to get him in Arlington.

Homer Bailey sucks super hard
But I guess I’d think about this deal just because the kid still has some upside on the mound, and I’m sucker for that sort of thing. But I don’t think the Reds would do it. Maybe swap in Salty and it could be a swap of young-but-struggling prospects. Then I’d move Bailey to the ‘pen and let him setup/close. Let him focus on throwing his filth one inning at a time and see if that cures some of his problems.

Instead of salty or laird
would you do max ram? I would for sure, and judging by what john eradi, that reporter AJM mentioned this morning, said since he thinks max ram’s in the same realm of Hamilton. The Bring Bailey Back to Texas Bandwagon is lookin pretty good come the trade deadline.

really?
i guess im really undervaluing him. Honestly though, I think what he would contribute to the rangers is just more offense, and i find it hard that he could somehow increase his value from where it is now and where it would be with more playing time. Im not saying to trade maxram just because of the logjam, or only consider trading him for bailey. If he has as much value as you guys think he does, what type of player should we receive if we traded him?

Well, it was reported in one of the Cincy-area papers today (or yesterday, not sure)...
That it would take another “Josh Hamilton” to pry Max-Ram from us.
That’s pretty much how we value him around here.
But you’re right on one front, that his value to us is certainly greater offensively than defensively, but with his versatility to play 1B and C, he’s one of the most valuable farm guys we have.

I thought about adding salty,
but I like the little bit of pop I’ve seen in his bat. His D skills are horrid, but Im not ready to trade him for a struggling pitcher in Bailey. I think he could be used for another scenerio. maybe one of those add 2’s that connvice a team to trade away a high upside major league pitcher. That way all we’re left with is Tea and MaxRam. I could do with that.

this is the first year bailey hasnt been graet in the minors.
last year his k/9 was down, but he allowed less than 7 hits per 9.
id give up a lot for him. hes the kind of upside guy we could use.

Bailey
One thing to consider with him is next year will be his last option year so a team doesn’t have alot of time to let him figure it out. he hasn’t had success in the majors yet and unless he turns it around this year he will go into next year as a guy who needs to put it together. One of the problems you get when you rush a kid like Cincy did with him.

I agree, with all that combined
along with them being down on him this might be the time to strike while the iron is hot. Laird is not going to be here next year and Bailey has high upside. Even if Bailey doesn’t figure it out I think this is a trade you have to take a chance on. As I have said before I would try to offer Laird to the Yanks for Kennedy first.

I don't know about Kennedy man.
I’m not real familiar with him or anything, but from what I do know, I just get a big whiff of the Soriano deal every time I think about trading for Kennedy. Laird would be about the only guy I’d send the Yankees right now though.

all you need to know about kennedy
minor league career hit per nine: 5.70
minor league career K per nine: 9.63
minor league career bb per nine: 3.05
He may not develop into a real ace, but he is another of the kind of guys we definitely need for next year. Ready to pitch, legitimate upside.

Since I don't know a lot about him...
Do you know what he throws (pitches), speeds, etc.?
I’m just curious to learn a little more about him since he’s one of the guys whose names I see around here in trade rumors/wish lists, etc.

I guess the way I know of him, since Im from NY, is that he is overrated like Melky.
He is one of those prospects that everyone is talking about. The future of the Yankees. Yeah okay, the Yanks just want to build his value up so they can trade him. I mean Joba and Hughes should and will be untouchable, their part of the future. But a solid 3/4 type pitcher can be aquired through a trade if the Yanks need it. Could be a real, real good number five in their rotation, but I dont see him panning out as a 3/4 for the Yanks.
Here is a quick bio on pitches and speeds for Kennedy:

I have to think that if we could have Kennedy for Laird
he’d have been had for Laird by now. He struggled early, but part of that might have been adjusting to the majors, and part of it might have been his injury.
Unless there’s still something seriously wrong with him phsycially, which it doesn’t sound like there is, I’d love to get my hands on him. He was overrated by some after last year’s performance, but he still profiles as a solid innings-eating 3/4, which has some serious value, imo.
After some quick and dirty research, it sounds like he’s actually progressing pretty nicely in his minor league rehab assignment.
From rotowire:
Kennedy (strained lat) struck out seven and allowed just one hit over seven shutout innings in his start against Triple-A Richmond on Thursday.
Spin: Kennedy has allowed just four hits and one earned run over his last two starts, while his overall numbers at Triple-A (2-2, 2.16 ERA, 27:9 K:BB in 33.1 IP) suggest that he’s at least deserving of consideration for another look in the New York rotation. Given his struggles there earlier this year, it’s easy to forget that Kennedy won’t turn 24 until December and that he only had made 15 starts combined between Double-A and Triple-A in 2007.

Okay, yeah, that's what I'm talking about.
Laird and someone else (maybe Arias?) for Kennedy. If New York does it, I’d do it.

If ever there was a team that had no use for a SS prospect
it would be the Yanks… so Arias is out.
But, yah, Laird + something else of value would be what it would take to snag a guy like Kennedy. Laird + Guradado + a low level prospect (Poveda? Beau Jones?) might get the conversation started.
But that’s all conjecture.
I have a hard time believing Cashman would deal Kennedy now when his value is at it’s absolute lowest. Only if they’re absolutely desperate for a catcher would they even consider such a move.

Laird
I don’t think they’ll get Kennedy or Bailey for Laird, my guess is that they get a package of 1 position player and 1 pitcher for him, both with some upside.
Maybe something like RHP Josh Roenicke and SS Todd Frazier from the Reds or RHP J Brent Cox and CF Brett Gardner from the Yankees

Brett Gardner is the type of leadoff hitter that Wash wants,
Getting him would enable us to use Kins in the five spot, seeing how AJM thinks we need a better option. Kins would be sick there.
