Frisco on Channel 21 locally. Watch it and comment here!
And this, which I stole from the DMN blog:
Nellie Cruz has homered again today for Oklahoma. That's 37 for the season, 11 in his last 10 games. The guy has absolutely gone power-bonkers.
Brandon McCarthy threw 82 pitches and allowed a run in 4.2 innings. I'm not sure why he didn't finish the fifth, but I'm told there was no health issue. He allowed four hits and three walks, but struck out five.

Wilfredo Boscan
4ip, 3h, 0r, 0bb, 4ks for Spokane so far. He’s putting together some year.

5ip/4h/1r/0bb/7k
Gave up a solo HR in the 5th. 40/6 K/BB ratio in 39.1 IP. Almost a 2-1 GO/AO ratio. 6-0, 2.52 ERA for the year so far.
I have absolutely no idea what kind of stuff this guy has. Hopefully one of the Jasons or someone could fill me (us?) in on that.

From MJH's old blog:
Studying Boscan over the winter, I discovered a rare bird: He’s capable of averaging well over a strikeout per inning while also inducing ground ball outs in bunches. In just over a week of NWL play, Boscan now has seven innings under his belt and he’s yielded two earned runs on seven hits and a walk, fanning seven while posting a gaudy 2.67 grounder / fly ratio. The 6’2”, 165 lb. Venezuelan scorched the DSL last summer, posting a 1.75 ERA and fanning 61 while walking just 13 in 56.2 innings of work. Along with all of that, Boscan put up another stat one rarely sees in a pitcher who averages better than 10 K’s per 9 IP: his 4.00 grounder-to-fly ratio.
Boscan, who earned an assignment to instructional league last fall, held the DSL to a .210 batting average and allowed fewer than one baserunner per inning pitched. He was especially ruthless against right handed hitters whom he held to a .155 / .225 / .194 line.

From JP & MVN:
RHP Wilfredo Boscan isn’t yet a household name, but after his early performance at Spokane that could soon change. Boscan, who was born in the same city as Wilson Alvarez, won’t even turn 19 years old until October. His fastball is a ground ball machine. Period. So far this season his ground ball/fly ball ratio is more than 2-to-1. Last season, that ratio was just shy of an unbelievable 4-to-1. He is a ground ball wizard. His fastball has heavy sink and is almost impossible to hit out of the ballpark. Boscan’s secondary pitches are raw and he is still learning how to pitch, but he has projection and should continue to develop as he matures physically. He should pitch in the Spokane rotation for the rest of the year, and he could quite possibly repeat the league next year.

Boscan's pitches
I’ve listened to radio telecasts for a couple of Boscan’s games (including the one today) and it appears that he throws a curve and change-up in addition to his sinker. He gets strikes on all three and appears to throw the two off-speed pitches often, perhaps as much as 40% of the time. I haven’t heard velocities for any of the three pitches.
by spurdynasty on Jul 27, 2008 6:52 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
The fastball is still his best pitch
but his secondary stuff seems to improve with every start. He is throwing his CU with greater frequency and it might be his most effective pitch against LHP. They can’t seem to make solid contact with it.
At first I thought the Rangers would take it slow with Boscan, but he is developing faster than most people thought and it seems likely that he will move on to full-season ball in ‘09.

Yup.
The strike zone was the size of a pea for most of the game. Little was pissed well before he got tossed, as you can imagine.
He started yelling before Blanks stepped to the plate. After Schlact threw a breaking ball right down the middle, the umpire called it a ball. Little started yelling at him. The umpire replied that it was too high to be a strike. Little took issue, pointed out that Blanks is like 100 ft tall. It escalated into the usual “are you blind?” talk for like 3 more seconds, and Little was ejected.

Though an exciting inning: Ragsdale has a grounder base hit, steals 2nd with Borbon up, Borbon grounds out…Ragsdale then advances on a WP…Andrus walks, 1st and 3rd 2 out…Andrus steals 2nd w/o a throw from the catcher…unfortunately Vallejo struck out.

Where is the stadium radar gun reading displayed at the Frisco ballpark?
by shroomer on Jul 27, 2008 8:32 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
radar gun
not sure, but it wasn’t showing up near the scoreboard friday night
but typically its right next to the scoreboard in right

by rentz on Jul 27, 2008 8:40 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
The reading is where rentz says, but the gun itself is in the crowd.
People run into it, bump it, and play with it all the time. Today, it was pointed at the RoughRiders dugout. Sometimes, even when it’s aimed correctly, it still doesn’t register.
You’d be better off sitting near someone with a radar gun. I expect, with Feliz going tomorrow night, that there will be approximately 1,000 radar guns crammed into the sections behind home plate.
