Has anybody seen the “Take that BEEP” situation mentioned in the MSM yet?

by shroomer on Jul 30, 2008 10:57 AM CDT reply actions

For those who have not seen the video of Ramon self-censoring

here it is on youtube. http://youtube.com/watch?v=PPqE9bw6Uj8

Having seen it for the first time, it does not sound as harsh as when I read the report.

Eh

Yeah that was the first time I saw it..not that big of a deal.

at least I think so.

Warner Madrigal makes Ezequiel Astacio look downright handsome.

Ah, okay

That makes sense.

I think I knew that, too.

I was trying to think of something local involving the Rangers that might be abbreviated as MSM and came up blank.

Milton Bradley

Pretty cold, hard reading of the market for him.

I thought he’d have far more value.

it makes sense though.

if he was healthy, I think we’d see 10 to 14 teams after him.

Marlon Byrd - David Murphy

Looking through some stats and noticed that Byrd has now got his OPS within a point of Murphy’s. Seems those two have been on opposite arcs this season.

Byrd .258/.339/.421 – 760 OPS
Murph .265/.310/.451 – 761 OPS

Warner Madrigal makes Ezequiel Astacio look downright handsome.

by tricer on Jul 30, 2008 12:14 PM CDT reply actions

nonsense!

murph will have to hit 2 HRs tonight. thats an injustice. heh.

but yeah, byrd has turned it on lately. .983 ops post all star break. just got frustrated with him constantly failing with men on base, but I know success with RISP is fluky and with his defense (hes looked better in CF to me this year) hes had a decent season.

but doing better than murphy or not, Id still like to see him traded to get one more look at cruz. if cruz himself isnt traded.

If some team was hot for him, now might be a good time to sell.

Only if decent pitching were involved imo

Maybe as part of a larger deal.t.
Or if someone gets stupid, looks at his rbis and makes a silly offer for some other position.

But it seems like hamilton is the only guy you can really pencil in to the starting OF for years. And you never know if his injury history will show up in a bigger way.

the preceding post is not nearly as negative or insulting as you think it is

by DShep on Jul 30, 2008 12:37 PM CDT up reply actions

sure, only move him for pitching

I just think that if there is a team out there that values him as a good starting OF, and he is a critical piece to a deal that would bring in a young starter, then there is a good chance that Murphy’s value is never again this high, and I wouldn’t hesitate to include him.

In essence, I think he is a similar player as Marlon Byrd, but maybe he has a trade value that might outweigh what he could reasonably be expected to contribute here.

Warner Madrigal makes Ezequiel Astacio look downright handsome.

You can't look at the stats on Murphy

He hustles, he’s fun to watch, and he has the good face.

Any attempt to obscure those truths with “stats” will result in immediate flaming from the LSB peanut gallery.

Murphy forever.

Cat

Even though Grant is calling for patience, I would not mind seeing Cat being traded before the deadline. The Rangers gave him a nice contract, and I would bet that other potential suitors did not offer as many years as the Rangers. However, Cat has quickly been phased out of the plans of the Rangers, and, to my knowledge, has yet to publicly complain about it. Sending him to a team with good playoff chances would be a kind gesture by the Rangers.

I won’t even attempt to guess what Cat could bring back in a trade now as compared to a trade in the winter, but his departure would free up a much needed spot on the 25-man roster for the younger players. I think this roster spot will be more valuable than whatever player Cat brings back (they certainly won’t be that good). As such, giving Cat some meaningful ABs for the stretch run and hopefully the playoffs would be an appropriate “thank you” for Cat’s patience with the team.

by Excel Hearts Choi on Jul 30, 2008 12:22 PM CDT reply actions

100% agree

Cat has been nothing but a class act here, and deserves a chance at post season play. However, I also doubt he would be clamed on waivers, so he doesn’t need to be moved asap.

yes, i’ve been saying they need to do him a solid and find him a contender to play for.

trade stuff

from Dan Graziano

There are several teams looking for catching help, and they’re looking to Texas, where the Rangers have a bunch of it. The Rangers’ stable of potentially available catchers includes Gerald Laird, Taylor Teagarden, Max Ramirez and Jarrod Saltalamacchia, depending on what you’re willing to give up in return.

The Yankees and Marlins are among the teams that have called on Laird. The Red Sox, who are looking for catching for this year and beyond, like Teagarden. Lots of teams like Saltalamacchia, who came over in the Mark Teixeira trade a year ago, but he might be the costliest of the bunch. Texas obviously won’t deal all of these guys, but having them all puts the Rangers in a position of strength.

I’ll say JD doesn’t trade anyone. Also, it’s good to see Salty would still cost a lot to get.

Josh Hamilton is better than you.

no new info at all

theres been nothing today.

and its looking like the rangers wont do much after all.

Blalock takes himself off the trade market with injury.
That takes vazquez possibly off the market as he is an every day player again with no clear backup and Duran injured as well.
CJ and Wrights struggles make trading eddie guardado tougher as we would be down to only one really reliable reliever.
Millwood’s injury and suckiness take him off the market.
Similar to vazquez and guardado, millwood and the other pitchers thus make padilla very important to the current team and tough to trade with few other options.
Hell, even Cat is seemingly slightly less likely with bradley hurt again.

The catcher situations seems to be about the only thing thats still as likely as it was a few weeks ago.

Evan's hypothesis...

...as to why the Rangers stumbled out of the gate this year being because they were thinking this year was a rebuilding year rankles me. Last year it was because of a regime change and this year because the players took it easy knowing they weren’t expected to compete? Really? So we have a team full of guys who only go out and play if there is something on the line? I don’t buy that at all. And if that IS the case, that is a sad indictment on the character of the team.

All I know is if the teams stumbles out of the gates AGAIN next year, Wash needs to go or JD needs to bring in R. Lee Ermey to whip everyone into shape.

Grant

has been making excuses for the Ranger recently, which has kind of lowered his appeal to me. Its got to be a tough gig, balancing frank, honest analysis with the politics of staying friendly with guys like Wash and JD who you need to like you for you to get good info.

Also, I think the whole first part about not needing to trade a catcher is a plant by JD…

by JBImaknee on Jul 30, 2008 3:59 PM CDT up reply actions

I thought that, too

about Grant fluffing us up for the fact that nobody will pay the price it’s going to cost to get a catcher from us

All I've seen:
that’s the same quad that gave him some issues earlier in the season.

EG is in the clubhouse/field right now.

per Jeff Wilson

the Rangers have inquired about Nick Masset, Boof Bonser, and Zach Greinke recently. My guess: Bonser and Masset were possible returns for Blalock. However, the name which interests me is Greinke, I could see him coming back in a Salty, Andrus, and another prospect, trade

I'd make the

Greinke trade in a heartbeat…assuming “another prospect” doesn’t include Feliz, Davis or Hurley.

I’d also trade Hank for Bonser…why the hell not?

Meh...

If Andrus is traded MY will never be moved from SS. He needs to stay a Ranger to force MY to third.
