Eric Hurley is hurt

You know how Eric Hurley wasn't hurt in his last start, he just struggled?

Well, never mind.

He's missing his next start with biceps tendinitis.

That sucks.

Dustin Nippert may have to fill in for him.

annoying

sigh.

at first he was supposed to be ready to pitch before the all star break, but held back as a precaution.

woops, now he pitches a couple innings over the next month.

could you imagine the rotation if we traded padilla? I know we won’t.. but heh.. just think about it.

oh well, hopefully hes healthy and back soon.

and heh, young is out tonight too

somewhat predictable after he looked bad last night, and nothing against MY since he tried to play through it, but still.. just piling on.

Speechless

I’ve seen less people hurt in a 20-car pile-up on 35 than what we’ve witnessed this year.

curse

Is there some type of curse on the franchise? Who was the last SP to stay healthy for an entire season?

Millwood, of course.

Bah

at what time do you think they start planning to shut him down for the year?

by FirebatM3 on Jul 30, 2008 4:13 PM CDT   0 recs

the jobs

of everyone associated with our pitching staff, including coaches and trainers, have to be evaluated at year’s end. the amount of injuries our pitching staff has sustained this year is outrageous and unacceptable.

by clark on Jul 30, 2008 4:15 PM CDT   0 recs

Geez

When was the last time we called up a pitcher and they stayed healthy? At this point, just being able to take the ball every fifth day seems to be too much to ask for.

Running through the list of call-ups the last couple years, I can’t think of a young starter that didn’t require DL time.

Warner Madrigal makes Ezequiel Astacio look downright handsome.

by tricer on Jul 30, 2008 4:17 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

except

he’s got to go on the DL soon for arm fatigue to clear space for whomever is taking over for him. The Rangers have to be really concerned with the amount of innings he’s thrown.

by Hull Fan on Jul 30, 2008 4:47 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

what about

an old one that didn’t? think about this:

Millwood, Padilla, McCarthy, Gabbard, Mendoza – all 5 of this year’s projected starters – have been on the DL. That. Is. Depressing.

2007: Millwood, Loe, Padilla, McCarthy, Tejeda – 3 of the 5 starters spent time on the DL, the other two were Tejeda and Loe

wow.

"No, Donny, these men are nihilists, there's nothing to be afraid of."

I think that

our pitching staff support should be investigated and reviewed. Having said that, I can’t for the life of me think what could be happening to all these previously uninjured pitchers that is systemic and non-apparent. They’re not throwing footballs around a la Tom House and I can’t feature that the trainers or doctors are using unsound methods.
I’m not saying its just bad luck or coincidence, but before we can say its something systemic, I think we need to come up with what that might be.

by mcgee48c on Jul 30, 2008 4:36 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

+1

The Stars fired their head trainer during the season last year because he miss advised Boucher about rehabing his shoulder instead of having surgery during the offseason. He re-injured it and had to have the surgery, missing 2/3 of the season. Then they screwed up Zubov’s hernia issue and he too missed an extra month while they waited around to see if it would get better. It didn’t, he had surgery and well Soupy was fired.

Someone(s) need to go. It’s not all coincidence.

"I erred in judgment in trying to protect one of my players," Washington said.

the preceding post is not nearly as negative or insulting as you think it is

by DSheppard on Jul 30, 2008 4:35 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Just to be clear, and this is a minor point, according to EG

It was Washington.

Washington acknowledged that he had concocted the story about the upset stomach to protect Blalock. The Rangers had hoped it was a one-day issue that would subside by Tuesday and that nobody would be the wiser. The intent of protecting Blalock was to not create a panic over the state of his shoulder.

“I made an error in judgment in trying to protect one of my players,” Washington said. “I thought he would be ready to go. As it turned out, he wasn’t happy with what I did. Sometimes it’s not good to protect. I found out the hard way.”

Daniels said the decision to protect Blalock was not made to fool potential trade partners. While he categorized talks about Blalock as casual, Daniels said he informed one club of the shoulder issue on Monday and another on Tuesday.

Well DShep beat me, but here is the full quote.

by LBBRangerFan on Jul 30, 2008 4:36 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

more
Daniels, however, wouldn’t let Washington take the full blame for the deception.

“We had a call to make whether to protect a player or not,” Daniels said. “No, he was not solely to blame.”

Josh Hamilton is better than you.

by Longhorn on Jul 30, 2008 4:39 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Good Point,

I had actually missed that part. I don’t know if I just skimmed over it or what. They do need to make up better stories that upset tummies in the future however.

I would guess that you're being sarcastic...

but pretty much everyone knew that Hurley’s arm was sore before he pitched.

So... about the job with the Rangers?

by NoNameOnCard on Jul 30, 2008 4:20 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I do not care what the pitchers tell the media but

the manager, pitching coach, and training staff had better hear the truth. If they are lying to them, then it is a real issue.

are you assuming jennings and millwood was going to be better than he was? Technically they were injured but it seems silly that you are going to try to think of a magical world where they were completely healthy and dominating like it was 4 years ago.

I remember ...

... when the Yanks fired their strength and conditioning coach, blaming him basically for their shitty record (was it last year or the year before?). I laughed because it basically was pointing the finger anywhere but where it really belonged, in the front office.

But man, we gotta look at our staff and think about doing the same. It can’t just be coincidence that this many players, particularly pitchers, are injured so often. Something’s gotta give. I am damn tired of reading about another DL stint for one of our guys.

Seems more appealing than Mendoza or Nippert at the moment.

Mendoza, check.

Nippert, no. Have you seen him throw? I have NO idea how he sports such a lofty ERA, and maybe I haven’t seen him enough, but he’s got “electric” stuff just like Jamey Wright. It amazes me that those two can be such effective relievers but suck so badly at starting.
