OT: Kellerman vs. Phillips

LOL. I usually post something like this in a thread, but today's argument was CLASSIC. Steve Phillips is trying to argue with Max, but of course, fails. Then he goes the route of saying stats don't play baseball, sabermetrics is stupid, blah blah blah... and, the whole time, Max is as cool as the other side of the pillow.

Anyways, check out this podcast.

It's the 7/30 podcast.  It starts about at 9:40 and they're talking about relief pitching.

Thoughts after listening to it?

I was thinking about posting this myself...

an amazing discussion especially for Saber-nerds like AJM.

LOL

+1

Kellerman should have his own show on TV.

by coolaid on Jul 30, 2008 10:51 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah.

Kellerman is very, very smart, and very, very good in certain situations. Radio, he’s money. Boxing, he’s the best there is (maybe save Lampley).

But for some reason it hasn’t translated to TV.

He's

Great at talking boxing.

Lampley is good as the straight man to Merchant’s constant talking-out-of-the-ass-and-mixing-in-stupid-ill-fitting-metaphors bit, but I think Max has got him on that count.

He was the original Around the Horn guy right? I’ve always been bored by that show, but he seemed just as good as the douche on there now.

Yep...

I remember when they started Around the Horn, he was the original guy. Not a bad show, sometimes can be entertaining.

I did love Merchant's interviews in the ring though after

the fights.

Wow

You just said Lampley is good at doing boxing.

He and Merchant need to be deported. They’re both terrible, though Merchant is about a billion times worse. He’s senile and stupid.

If you didn’t know better, you would think Merchant is always drunk.

won't work

ESPN and FOX will throw a fit if he talks ‘sabermetric’ stuff…

Look at Brian Kenny, to his credit he tries to say some stuff, but usually just goes with the flow..

Josh Hamilton is better than you.

Very true.

Kellerman is 100x times better than some of the people employed by ESPN.

are you guys serious??

or being sarcastic?? living in New York, I was forced to listen to this joker.. He is such a yankee homer, how can you guys listen to him? I will agree that he is probably one of the best boxing analyst around. But when it comes to anything else, he needs to recede to his “Around the Horn” persona and let the big boys talk and just comment when needed. Thats the only reason he has a job in NYC, because all that flaps out of his mouth is how good the yankees are (which could be debated based on the fact the Rangers are a couple games back) he talks like its the yankees of the late 90s.. And I wont even get into his post-super bowl giants shows that were so unlistenable I started listening to Colin Cowherd (who is equally annoying and moronic) because even the NY fans in my office wont listen to his ridiculousness.. fill me in on what im missing about Kellerman that makes him likable…
