Yeah

If CJ couldn’t close out that sorry bunch, we would have been in trouble.

This year is so much better

Than last year. It’s nice seeing the young kids getting a chance to play and doing well.

I get to see the knuckle in person.

Should be interesting. I figure another 13-12 game. Vegas odds?

Ian Kinsler has finally earned the right to be the third of my co-favorite players.

If I was

a Mariners fan, I’d be beyond pissed with the home plate umpire. That Byrd AB was ridiculous. One potential 3rd strike was easily a strike and another was off the plate but a ball he had been calling a strike all night. Since I’m a Rangers fan, I’ll take the win. Nice comeback for CJ tonight.

Just remember San Francisco

trades

if either the manny or molina trade go through with the marlins, then i would say the rangers lose. it looks like they will not be able to move a single veteran this year. it is not a big deal, but still a slight disappointment.

the bigger deal is that the Rangers are winning, and while that is good, it probably means we will lose our first round pick this next june instead of our second, which is a bummer.

by clark on Jul 30, 2008 10:28 PM CDT   0 recs

Don't trade just for the sake of trading

Unless you feel you get a good player in return there is really no imminent need to trade anyone. The only position where young players are being blocked is at catcher and Max could use more time in the minors working on his defense while TT is at the Olympics. Once September comes around they all can be up here if we want. By next April someone needs to go but if we can’t find a good deal right now im fine with keeping all 4 and letting nature take its course.

All around a succesful game

+ CJ had a just fine save. finally.
+ Padilla wasnt great, but he semi-legitimately earned the victory. His 13th ()
+ Guardado remained good. I dont expect him to be traded, but might as well keep the option open and appealing.
+ Hammy homerun! Always fun.
+ Boggs really long at bat ending with a HR? excellent.

- even the slightest hint of a CD injury sucks, but i think hes fine
- too long. dirt? dirt!?

This could be the Rangers time

With the Cowboys still in training camp and having not played a preseason game yet, and with the Red Sox and Yankees coming in, it could be time for the Rangers to show the reset of the Metroplex that they are here to stay.

So from a trade perspective

The chance of getting young pitching worth anything for someone like Cat or Byrd appears to be dwindling. So with the latest developments, would it be worth it to trade either of the two for a relief arm like Schoenweis?

by robert_d_wilfong on Jul 30, 2008 10:36 PM CDT   0 recs

Props to Padillia

He came out with a fastball that stayed around 90 or less and tried using his eephus pitch way too much at the beginning of the game. He made the right adjustments every inning and went 7 . WOW

Tentative agreement has been reached between Pirates, Red Sox, and Marlins
10:33pm: The Palm Beach Post says a tentative agreement has been reached, despite Gammons’ comments. Here’s the deal:

The Marlins will get Ramirez for Hermida, right-hander Ryan Tucker and two other prospects, with those four players being flipped to Pittsburgh for outfielder Jason Bay and left-hander John Grabow.

The Red Sox will send the Marlins enough cash to cover the remainder of Ramirez contract, as well as an unnamed prospect.

Pittsburgh gets Hermida and two prospects – two from Florida and one from Boston. One of the Marlins’ prospects is believed to be Tucker.

Not the first time Peter Gammons would be wrong….

by Steal Home on Jul 31, 2008 2:50 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

lets see....

We have Chris Davis a 22 year old who is going to be better than tex and already has half of his homeruns. then we texeira who is 28, kills chemistry, and has a huge contract.

with that said, Feliz is dominant starter, we haven’t had anything close to a dominant starter this decade, he throws 98 and is only 20.

Why in the world would you want to spend money on a hitter let alone why in the world you want to give up a great starter for one when we already have CD

im seriously quesitoning it

because the rash of injuries have made it more difficult to trade the lesser players like vazquez and cat.
and those injuries of course knocked out blalock, and didnt help bradley’s position (not that we were going to trade him).
cant give up padilla anymore, just not enough starters to get by without him.
and hell, maxram is down now too.

many many potential deals have been crossed off the list by whats happened lately.

and teams are finding other solutions at catcher thus far.

i still wouldnt be surprised if a deal goes through, but i was thinking multiple deals a week ago.
