Crasnick: Nothing brewing on Laird
The Rangers had a surplus of catching for them to try to make a deadline deal, but they haven't received an offer strong enough to persuade them to part with Gerald Laird. Barring a last-minute change of heart, they'll keep Laird and try to move him this winter.

What a boring deadline this is turning out to be.
I hate boring deadline days.

Patience, patience
there are too many teams who are both needy and close in the standings.
I expect lots of fireworks in the last hour.

that's fine
It doesn’t make sense to trade him just for the sake of trading him. Hopefully he can finish out the season healthy and productively, leading to better offers this offseason.
Still, I don’t think anyone is ever going to blow us away for him. Laird is fine, but not really anything special. Talk of getting Homer Bailey for him was always ridiculous.

JD
atleast trade Cruz.
Josh Hamilton is better than you.

Cruz isn't on
the 40man roster so he can be traded (for another player not on the 40) after the deadline.

When is the deadline again?
3ET?

I’m pretty sure anyways.
Plaschke: Scioscia, the former Dodgers catcher, is the model manager who has created an atmosphere of winning.
Junior:It's that simple. Mike Scioscia brings a Glade Plug-In labeled "Winning™" into the clubhouse and everyone who breathes it in gains 15 points in average.

correct, it is 100% 4 eastern/3 central
the preceding post is not nearly as negative or insulting as you think it is

Sounds Like
an article written just before JD makes a big trade.

holdup
I think the Manny fiasco is holding everything up. At what time do the teams involved throw in the towel and move on to plan B?

+1
It really wouldn’t surprise me if one or all of those teams made a flurry of deals late once it’s officially blown up.

Laird
If he finishes the season strong, is his value higher than in a pennant chase?

I think this is
Laird’s highest value. I wonder if the hammy is being viewed as a problem?

age
Laird is also at the age where players figure it out for a 2nd time. This is probably Laird’s “career” year but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him have 2-3 years of good .280/.330/.420 production from him.

Reds are partners now!
With Masset going to the Reds, I am kind of interested in a Laird and Cruz for Bailey (or another starter), Masset and AA prospect deal.
Go Cubbies and Go Rangers!

I think it's a mistake not to move Laird right now
His value is as high as its probably going to be. He responds best when his job is threatened so annointing him the starter without even spliting time with Salty is going to cause his average to plummet. I hope I’m wrong and he finishes hitting 300 and can net us a great SP in the winter.

Catcher logjam
Other teams know we’ve got too many, so they’re probably low balling right now.
Nothing pithy here. Please move long.

I'm going to be severely disappointed if we don't make a single move.
I’ll find it very hard to convince myself that NO team offered us anything solid for anybody.

there is not much point in keeping cat and/or cruz
