This isn't the final thread

the discussion about the pending Laird, Cat, Byrd, Bradley, and Guardardo trades will overflow

Just in time for the final 11 minutes!

I cannot F’ing beleive that Catalanotto, Byrd and Cruz are still on this team.

i could see

one of those guys going out in a waiver trade. maybe.

how does that work?

Cat clears waivers and then the rangers make a deal that involves covering part of his salary to a team that would have liked to pick him up but didn’t want to pay the $$? I guess that makes sense.

eh

The Rangers have had headline stealing deals the last two years. We’ve grown to like them

what would be less of a letdown

would be if the rangers could win tonight and close to 4 games behind the Sox, who have the night off, and also watch the Angels slaughter the Yanks.

I am not convinced

That he didn’t get a resonable offer on Laird. He was talking to Florida – geez, Florida is overstocked with pitchers. They had to offer something…

I’d be pissed if they dealt him just cause some team offered “something”.

ch-ch-ch-chillllll son

maybe we should be thankful that he’s not caving in and just giving players away for less than they are worth. its not the end of the world. its nice to finally have a front office that says from the beginning what their goals and plans are, and not deviate from those. I cant blame other teams for not offering up young mlb ready starting pitching for what we’re offering. maybe the incentive will be higher for teams looking to retool at the winter meetings. e

they dont have to

do anything. in fact, if they dont get a good offer, id just as soon see them pack up their bags and head home. its not like after 3pm today that our catching assets become less valuable. now, if they get past the winter meetings and havent done something you have a legitimate complaint. but to say they HAVE to do something, just for the sake of doing something, or for some mis-perceived need to make a move, is simply asinine, even for you Josey

by 6th street on Jul 31, 2008 3:00 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

in the end

ill just have to assume that nothing decent was offered. and you cant trade for the sake of trading.

it will be a buzkill though, i was hoping for a young pitcher we could plug in right now.

What’s Salty’s OPS +? I mean, this is a guy that is supposed to be an offensive phenom. And he flat out sucks at the plate. It’s time to stop making excuses for the guy and just acknowledge that he’s having a terrible season.

Salty’s season, in fact, is thrown into sharp contrast by the fact that Chris Davis has come up and made the most of the opportunity he’s been given.

I would much rather be listening to "Why

I need a trade!!

Well, no stupid moves were made today

with Hicks in the club house, that has to account for something. They could have gotten drunk to try and get in the WC. So they have that going for them.

Some of the LSBallers

are just determined to be pissed off. Any trade that JD did would have been deemed dumb or insufficient and him standing pat is also seen as being dumb.

If a team is in that weird gray area between being a seller or a buyer, contender or also finisher, then they are better off not participating in the trading frenzy. Hold onto what you have see if you can win enough games to make the playoffs and if you don’t you can still deal the Byrds, Cruzes and Cats of the organization.

yeah, even if the young pitching trades everyone was hoping for had happend

we would have been furious.

i see very few people suggesting we should have traded people for nothing. but tis disappointing we wernt able to get something.

I said

some. There were young pitchers that people were ‘hoping’ for, but what substantial rumors were out there. A team calling about a player does not equal a deal being eminent.

By the way; your spelling, capitalization, and punctuation (or lack there of) give artist a bad name.

Manny to Dodgers. So not only did Theo suck the air out of the room, he still moved Manny. Wonder what he got in return.

uh two middling prospects and they got rid off manny

for minimum a year and a half of bay. They made out like bandits in this deal considering how badly they wanted to trade manny. Pittsburgh got jobbed in this one. Laroche is good and all but with LA’s reluctance to play him, but play every other youngster they have now makes me wonder, plus morris is a nice prospect, but has already had major shoulder surgery and he was an 06 pick.

I remember not drafting this guy and being pissed about it

cant remember who we took though, but I really wanted this guy.

After a little research I remember why I was so upset. He went right after us at pick 11. My draft wish list for that one went:
1. Scott Kazmir
2. Jeremy Hermida
284. Drew Meyer

Anyone remember that draft?
