Thanks D-Shep.

Ian Kinsler has finally earned the right to be the third of my co-favorite players.

This isn't the final thread

the discussion about the pending Laird, Cat, Byrd, Bradley, and Guardardo trades will overflow

by JBImaknee on Jul 31, 2008 2:48 PM CDT   0 recs

Just in time for the final 11 minutes!

I cannot F’ing beleive that Catalanotto, Byrd and Cruz are still on this team.

by lonestarJon on Jul 31, 2008 2:49 PM CDT   0 recs

i could see

one of those guys going out in a waiver trade. maybe.

by tdi1985 on Jul 31, 2008 2:50 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

how does that work?

Cat clears waivers and then the rangers make a deal that involves covering part of his salary to a team that would have liked to pick him up but didn’t want to pay the $$? I guess that makes sense.

eh

The Rangers have had headline stealing deals the last two years. We’ve grown to like them

by JBImaknee on Jul 31, 2008 2:51 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

what would be less of a letdown

would be if the rangers could win tonight and close to 4 games behind the Sox, who have the night off, and also watch the Angels slaughter the Yanks.

Calm down dude.

I’m sure you would have been more pissed if he had made a trade and not gotten what we needed to get out of it.

by utlonghorn24 on Jul 31, 2008 2:55 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I am not convinced

That he didn’t get a resonable offer on Laird. He was talking to Florida – geez, Florida is overstocked with pitchers. They had to offer something…

by lonestarJon on Jul 31, 2008 2:56 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Well I'm not saying he didn't either

But the thing is, we definitely didn’t get worse.

by utlonghorn24 on Jul 31, 2008 2:58 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

No they didn't... at least not "something" decent

And Gerald Laird is a good player with a lot of value.

I’d be pissed if they dealt him just cause some team offered “something”.

ch-ch-ch-chillllll son

maybe we should be thankful that he’s not caving in and just giving players away for less than they are worth. its not the end of the world. its nice to finally have a front office that says from the beginning what their goals and plans are, and not deviate from those. I cant blame other teams for not offering up young mlb ready starting pitching for what we’re offering. maybe the incentive will be higher for teams looking to retool at the winter meetings. e

by 6th street on Jul 31, 2008 2:56 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Not quite yet.

They HAVE to move one of these catchers.

"Dying ain't hard. It's living that's hard."

by Josey Wales on Jul 31, 2008 2:56 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

they dont have to

do anything. in fact, if they dont get a good offer, id just as soon see them pack up their bags and head home. its not like after 3pm today that our catching assets become less valuable. now, if they get past the winter meetings and havent done something you have a legitimate complaint. but to say they HAVE to do something, just for the sake of doing something, or for some mis-perceived need to make a move, is simply asinine, even for you Josey

by 6th street on Jul 31, 2008 3:00 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

in the end

ill just have to assume that nothing decent was offered. and you cant trade for the sake of trading.

it will be a buzkill though, i was hoping for a young pitcher we could plug in right now.

the preceding post is not nearly as negative or insulting as you think it is

...to both of the above comments. I’d rather no bad deals with the chance of a better deal later than selling for cheap now.

The three-way Manny Ramirez blockbuster may be back on, with Pirates outfielder Jason Bay headed to the Red Sox, sources say.

The Rays were also in talks to acquire Bay in the minutes leading to Thursday’s 4 p.m. ET non-waiver deadline, but one source has said that the Tampa-Pittsburgh deal is off “unless a miracle happens.”

My guess....

With the buyers market, teams were reluctant to give any young pitching up.

so JD decided to hang onto his players. I can’t blame him. If you gain a reputation for giving in, then GM’s will always try to low-ball you.

Salty's been screwed all season long

bringing him up to be Laird’s caddy was retarded when it first went down, and it’s been retarded all season long.

Doesn’t mean we should’ve just given away Laird.

I have to assume JD didn’t get a decent offer for OMFT or Salty.

Yeah

We’ll see… but at one point there, it was reported the Rangers and Fish where discussing which SP they wanted in return for Gerry… and if the Rangers where offered any of the Marlins young SP’s and screwed it up by trying to hold out, I’m going to be slightly ticked.

well,

how can anyone even really know that that was what was really being discussed. i mean really, unless youre sitting there in the room listening to it, its all just bullshit.

That JD couldn’t get a single decent offer for anyone that we had on the trade block. It makes me wonder if perhaps we’ve overestimated Laird’s value…

Maybe that’s why it took him till age 28 to figure things out.

he had a 100 OPS +

What’s Salty’s OPS +? I mean, this is a guy that is supposed to be an offensive phenom. And he flat out sucks at the plate. It’s time to stop making excuses for the guy and just acknowledge that he’s having a terrible season.

Salty’s season, in fact, is thrown into sharp contrast by the fact that Chris Davis has come up and made the most of the opportunity he’s been given.
