Post Game Thread

Rangers lose 8-5 to Seattle.  They split a 4 game home series against the last place team in their division.  Not the kind of thing a post season bound club should/would do.

The culprits in tonights loss?  Are you ready for this?  PITCHING and DEFENSE.  It is groundhog day in Arlington.  Nolan and/or JD might want a do-over regarding today's trade deadline......

Please discuss the game hear, as well as any other late night Ranger ruminitions you may have.

so even he could lay claim to “staff ace” if he were still a Ranger…....

so

instead of building our team up even more, we don’t because we have too many players that are just too good on the 40.

JD

is still jacking off on the minor leaguers we got for the Tex trade. That’s all he’s done.

What game?

I just saw a bunch of guys on the field that want to talk about the playoffs but i guess thats all, they certainly aren’t playing for the playoffs.

How's Dshep's ass taste?

+1

I’ve been saying this for a while

everyone says they are giving their best effort,

no one is suggesting they are dogging it, but they also are not raising their level of play

we need defense

and to do that we should play someone else at third. i dont care who it is just as long as it is not ramon. 2 unearend runs because ramon/ murphy bobbling it and if young took at the out at 1st then the 2nd run wouldn’t have scored. so without pthetic defense the score is 5-5.

harrison obviously shouldn’t be up here and tommorow we have another non-ready mlb pitcher coming to pitch.

CD beasted, we need bradley, too many lineouts, too many walks by harrison, and losing to the mariners is pretty bad by itself

on a positive note we are only 5 out of the wild card and right now holland is shutting out through 3 innings with 1 infield hit, and main allowed 1 run through 6 innings

what

in the world will Wash have to hang his hat on after this year? that the guys played hard for him? He certainly won’t be able to point to his teams defense. It is truly spectacular in its awfulness.

i still like harrison

he has the stuff to succeed with decent command, and scouting reports and minor league stats say he usually has decent command.

i really hope he does well next time out to make sure he doesnt get the boot when (if) BMac returns.

and the offense cant score 9 runs a game… but those same players dont have to give 3 free runs to the other team with errors every night..

the preceding post is not nearly as negative or insulting as you think it is

agreed

still like like harrison. i’d rather see a young pitcher let in walks rather than throw lots of strikes and get pounded. because you can work on control/command

pitching and defense

The defense is just driving me crazy. With a pitching staff that doesn’t strikeout batters, the Rangers defense makes a bad situation even worse. By my count, the Rangers gave the M’s 4 extra outs – 1) Harrison’s failure to cover 1st, 2) Vazquez’s error, 3) Young’s FC, 4) Cat didn’t make a catch that would have been fairly routine for Murphy or Boggs. Even if plays like these don’t lead to runs scored, they’re causing more pitches to be thrown.

I’m a big supporter of Adam’s plan to move MY to 3rd next year with some sort of stopgap, very good defensive SS. The Rangers have to give the pitchers all the help they can.

Note to Vazquez: Harrison was booed and heckled by some fans for his inability to throw strikes and due to a generally mediocre performance. It happens, this is professional baseball. Also, if you don’t like to be booed, I suggest you not sign with either NY team this offseason.

at least

the guys in the room like each other.

thats the logic given for why we didn’t trade anyone. JD was afraid to disrupt the chemistry(at least that’s the quote I read for the the logic in keeping Byrd). Oh if only we would have never traded DeRo. This team is still trying to recover from losing his chemistry building skill set.

It's easy to lie with stats, it's even easier to lie without them......

by red shoe ranger on Jul 31, 2008 10:44 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I have to disagree.

Guys like Byrd and Vazquez had very little trade value and JD wasn’t willing to simply give them away. I think Guardado is the only guy they could have gotten a decent prospect for but who they decided to keep in order to finish the season strong.

by Randy Richardson on Jul 31, 2008 10:53 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

at least

in the case of Byrd I would have liked to have seen him gone for a bag of peanuts if for no other reason than to get another look at Nellie Cruz….

2 things

We didn’t trade De Rosa.

Produce a link where JD said the main reason he didn’t make a trade was because of a fear of hurting team chemistry.

i dont like ramon at all but he was just kidding when he said that

and yes move MY to 3rd, hes would be perfect there. no range needed just the ability to react quickly, field the routine ball, and occasionally make a backhand grab

then have andrus at SS

-1...

MY would be fine at 3B. He’s the best option the team has for third right now, but they won’t move him mid-season.

I hope they do in ‘09 but it will probably be ‘10 ‘til he’s there.

I'm trying to figure out why

Cat is still playing. It’s not like they need to showcase him. I’d much rather see Boggs or Cruz in the outfield.
I’m sure Cat’s a nice guy and he’s got a good face or something, but he just can’t play anymore.

Ed was right

about Cruz.

On Boggs… he’s here to stay.

Cat

is the most spectacularly useless player on this team. It’s already stocked with guys who cant hit lefties and can’t field. I didn’t think there was much chance anyone would be stupid enough to take that steamer off our hands.

while he might not be particularly useful for this team, there’s no evidence to suggest your statement is true.

he'll be good. he gets ahead in the count very often

and actually throws strikes unlike every pitcher on this staff besides guardado and padilla

On Harrison

I agree with Shep, this guy has the stuff to be a really good pitcher, he might not ever be a #1 but he has the ability to be a lot more effective #2 than Millwood is being this year! We have to remember this KID is only 22 and should probably be dominating at AA this year in a system that had good talent from top to bottom. Injuries and a lack of GOOD pitchers higher up in the system has made it necesarry for him to be here right now. I would probably put him in the dugout for now and let Rupe of Nippert start that way he could learn the ropes in a lower risk capacity! Just my opinion
