Braves send Jeff Francoeur down

Jeff Francoeur has reportedly been demoted by the Atlanta Braves down to AA, in the wake of a pretty terrible first half of the season.

Pretty big crash for a guy viewed as an up and coming star...he's just 24, and is in his 4th season in the majors, but has just a 661 OPS on the year...

Considering all the backlash...

...in the “A-Rod and Cynthia split” fanpost about relevancy to Rangers fans, I’ve gotta ask how this is topical??

Its his blog, and its even about baseball.

He could take a shit and post a picture if he wanted to. HE OWNS THE PLACE.

Now get in line or get your taint slapped.

he could even post awful '80s videos

and wish happy birthday to the Canseco brothers…

by JBImaknee on Jul 4, 2008 11:31 AM CDT to parent up   2 recs

really?

I think there is a big difference between that and this. ESPECIALLY, since the braves and rangers will forever be linked because of the Tex trade.

by booyahcaveman on Jul 4, 2008 11:23 AM CDT to parent up   0 recs

It could just as easily be argued...

...that A-Rod is more relevant because he actually played for the Rangers, whereas Francoeur is on a team that we play once every three years at most, so who gives a crap about him? On field vs. off field relativity makes no difference when dealing with players that aren’t on the Rangers.

The bigger issue on this stuff is that some people have gotten on their high horse lately and started passing judgment on what others enjoy reading about. Miles’ posts (and those of others too) are somewhat juvenile, but that doesn’t mean that some of us enjoy the distraction even if it pushes other stuff off the “recommended” list.

Yes, it’s AJM’s site and he can post about anything he wants to discuss, just as he can delete anything he disagrees with… I’m totally fine with that position, but I think it’s somewhat hypocritical to allow discussions and posts about a lot of irrelevant stuff and then raise the “relevancy” flag when a post is made by someone that some don’t seem to care for…

Either set some specific parameters about what is allowed, create an “Off Topic” section for the non-baseball stuff, or just stop censoring (and complaining about) people because their posts push other stuff down the right hand column.

Freedom of Speech, y’all…

Freedom of Speech?

I’m curious how does this apply here?

I always thought that Freedom of Speech was related to Government regulations of Speech.

However, LSB is in no way related to any government that I know of, so I don’t think Freedom of Speech really applies.

Am I wrong in this assumption?

by Longhorn on Jul 4, 2008 12:54 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Surprised

I actually thought some posters would do the usual jump-in every time a player is demoted or released: “Should we go get him?” “What would it take?”

BTW there isn’t any real censorship. AJM is more accepting of twisty less than on topic posts than many. Be kind.

I've got a greal deal...

...of respect for AJM’s work on this site, especially considering his other obligations as a father and lawyer. I barely have time to read a magazine and I’ve got far less responsibility on my shoulders.

That being said, amongst the many things I love about LSB are the crazy off-topic, irrelevant posts that show up everyday. Everyone that posts here is part of a crazy, dysfunctional family known as Rangers fans. Some of us are diehards that care only about the on-field stuff, while some of us love that our “little brother” threatens to kick everyone’s butt for pissing him off. Yeah, that stuff is totally irrelevant, but I come here several times a day to keep up on the activities of the Rangers, and I often leave knowing a little bit more about my “family” as well… That’s what makes this site so great, and in some ways it’s what makes America so great too!

I’ve never met any of you (and probably never will), but I feel like you’re all part of my bloodline – that which bleeds for the Rangers.

This is way more relevant than the A-Rod/Madonna bit

Because it is baseball related. And, in my opinion, it’s kind of a shocking move. I mean, I know Francoeur was struggling, but all the way to AA. That’s rough.

Also, as someone mentioned, this is Adam’s blog. He can post whatever he wants. Because of the format, I think most view this as more of a community than anything, but in the end, it’s really Adam’s blog.

by baseballismyboyfriend on Jul 4, 2008 11:46 AM CDT   0 recs

Kind of the Volquez treatment.

Send him down, hope to shock his system, get back to fundamentals. Interesting, but not unprecedented.

BUT WHAT WOULD IT TAKE TO GET HIM?? Just kidding, Ed.

By the way, happy Independence Day. Celebrate your independence in the most American way there is: telling the British to shove it up their ass.

French or Salty

Who would you rather have?

Ready? Go.

by AirJordan on Jul 4, 2008 11:49 AM CDT   0 recs

Salts

Francouer has had more opportunities to prove himself at the ML level. Salty is still a developing player; with Francouer, I think he’d have to reboot to improve.VOlqueso style.

i blame this on Teixiera...

by oc on Jul 4, 2008 12:45 PM CDT   0 recs

Poor Tex

I remember how happy he was last year when he escaped the Rangers for a winning team.

A year later, after a 3rd place finish last season, he is on a 4th place team, six games under .500. They can’t win on the road, 12-29, and just sent a core OFer to AA.

I’m sure you were jesting in your comment, but it sure makes one wonder. We are aware of the “A-Rod Effect”, but is there a “Tex Effect”?

by T Coleman on Jul 4, 2008 3:11 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

if what a certain Rangers reliever said in a radio interview yesterday is true...

...i would believe it…

according to the source, one former Rangers player would always put down the young guys… never bothered to mentor them…

Jeff Francoeur is 24 years of age…

do the math…

by oc on Jul 4, 2008 3:18 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

you know...

...i wonder what the Rangers record is after the Teixiera trade.

Effects

Maybe it’s just me but I put more blame on the guys who let someone like Tex effect the way they play. If they can’t be professional enough to play well with a douche for a teammate then maybe they are just pussies.

Lol.

I was Googleing Brandon McCarthy to see if there was any new news on him. There wasn’t. So, then i went to Google Maps ‘cause i wanted to find directions to the nearest Golf Warehouse, but anyways, “Brandon McCarthy” was still in the search field…

this is what i found

Yeah that .661 OPS

Has been killing my fantasy team. That fucker was the 2nd OF I took.

Joe Morgan: (On Jay Bruce) I think he will. He brings energy to the team, and besides that, he is a pretty good hitter.
Ken Tremendous: I like that the #1 reason he will help his team is: "energy," and the distant #2 reason is: "ability to hit baseballs."

Law Chat

In yesterday’s Keith Law chat, somebody asked if Francoeur is the next Marty Cordova, He was ROY, then posted career highs in average, RBIs, and doubles the next season. Then, it was downhill from there. Law said that this was entirely possible.

Mayberry

I was initially afraid that he would be like this, and I suppose he still could be, but he seems to have strengthened his game this year.

Time you enjoy wasting was not wasted.

by t ball on Jul 4, 2008 2:46 PM CDT   0 recs

what would it take I wonder?

I’d still trade for him! He’s got amazing talent and skills and is only 24…
Maybe we could swap him for Cruz??? no, not really…they wouldn’t go for that. But what would be a fair trade?

by 8legs2fangs on Jul 4, 2008 2:49 PM CDT   0 recs

I say we give them Drew Myer straight up

After all he went before Francoeur in the same draft.
