Story on CJ's visit with BaD Radio and link to audio of interview

Channel 11 posted a story on CJ's visit with BaD Radio yesterday. Included in the story is the link to the audio of the interview. Here's the story:

http://cbs11tv.com/rangers/CJ.Wilson.Rangers.2.763395.html#btn_mc

That's not the entire interview, but it's the majority of it.  And it includes all of the "juicy" stuff that has created a buzz since it aired.

I wish the archives on this site still contained the posts that BGL wrote about GMJ. That was greatness.  I have no doubt that GMJ is one of the people CJ is glad went away in the winter of 2006.

yup

i posted in a fanshot yesterday about this (though no one looks at those)

it was a great interview, just hope he doesn’t catch more flack for it.

after listening to that interview...

...i switched over to see if ESPN 103.3 could top that…

after talking about the Cowboys kicking game for a few minutes (yes… the Cowboys kicking game)... Steve Dennis began making these laughable projections on Ian Kinsler’s glovework for the rest of the year…

it’s too bad ESPN prides itself on it’s “wall-to-wall” coverage of the Cowboys… not only does their competition own the broadcasting rights to the Cowboys… but, they are making absolutely no attempt to highlight the positives of this Rangers season.

‘f’ Steve Dennis… ‘f’ everybody over at that “wanna-be” of a sports-radio station.

I never even tune in to ESPN

I didnt think

it could get worse than Newy….and then they found JFE…...and then I knew it couldnt get any worse…....but then they went out and found Irvin and Kevin…..and now I KNOW it cant get any worse…....can it?

I've got a laptop for pleasure.....The Rangers for pain.

difference between the Ticket and ESPN...

...ESPN radio tries…
the Ticket doesn’t have to try.

the Ticket might be short-sighted on the Rangers from time to time… but at least they get the word out to the general Ranger public…

ESPN, with Galloway leading the charge… doesn’t want that word to get out. it’s bad for Cowboys business…

...which makes no sense… as the Ticket’s Cowboys coverage easily tops them anyway…

What did CJ say about GMJ?

CJ on GMJ

He made a few comments about GMJ saying “cha-ching!” as he would get back to the dugout after making a nice defensive play or hitting a HR. And Matthews would say “Somebody’s gonna pay me for that one!” or somesuch.

There were a few other things, but that was the main point of what CJ said about him. We all know it is a business. But it would be nice that for at least 9 innings at a time, someone could be 100% concerned with just winning that game (regardless of how awful the team might be), not with getting that next contract.

Listened to it live

and I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I love his candidness, but geez, after this spring that guy needs to learn to choose his words with the media a little better.

in his defense

it always seemed to me the issue the other players had was more criticizing players on the roster, or saying things to offend players on the roster. Not so much saying things about guys that were gone.

He all but said

that Teix was cancer, only played for the money and they were better off without him.

Which may be true and fairly obvious, but is something that you just don’t say in a radio interview. Imagine if the national media had picked up on that and went with that story this week, you isolate a few of those quotes and they don’t sound good at all.

I just think that he needs to choose his words a little better.

Its a former player

You can trash former teammates and such all you want.

team chemistry

Does team chemistry matter? You bet it does. How many WS titles did the Yankees win in the 90s? They had a good team chemistry lead by Paul O’Neil and others. How many have they won since 2000? Also, here is this…

Damon, who is in his third season with the Yankees after being one of the vocal leaders of the Red Sox’s first championship team in 86 years, pointedly praised his former team on how it manufactured runs and played “team baseball.”

"Publicly, Beavan has said in an interview that his velocity has dropped because he's not used to throwing as much and because of all the travel -- late night bus rides, sleeping in hotels, not the best nutrition, etc."

Where did you see that Beavan quote?

Jason Cole's site

I am pretty sure Beavan said that (or something very similar to that) in an interview on Lone Star Dugout.

Correctamundo

At least that is what Young and Kinsler had to say about it in Grant’s story today:

Michael Young and Ian Kinsler said they saw no evidence that any members of last year’s team were not fully invested in playing winning baseball. Both players said the clubhouse chemistry is better this season, but suggested it had more to do with record than personnel change.

kinsler and young

I don’t think either player would even acknowledge if there was a problem last season anyway.

he's got a big mouth

it’s easy to talk about players when you don’t see them everyday. does he think that since the players he’s talking about aren’t on his team that it’s okay? well they could be your teammate in the future.

you want to burn as few bridges as possible, lest YOU want to be the cause of bad chemistry.

earlier this year he pissed off teammates by generalizing that they are dumb and didn’t care about things outside the clubhouse, that riffled some feathers. cj should be careful not to develop a reputation.

cj

he’s made comments about players on his team before and was kindly told by management to knock it off. I see no problem talking about guys on opposing teams, if you play with them later on you just find a way to make it work.( example brendan morrow and avery )

i think he just says what’s on his mind and doesn’t want to censor himself and I respect that.
