Hurley, Padilla hurting

Eric Hurley will miss his next start, which was scheduled for tomorrow.  He has a hamstring issue.  Scott Feldman, who was going to be bumped back to Tuesday to get him some extra rest, will start tomorrow instead.

And Vicente Padilla says he's been bothered the past two starts with a stiff neck, and it is unknown whether he'll be able to make his next start.

reports that Dustin Nippert was scratched from his scheduled start today. He could be on the way to Baltimore to bolster the pen, or possibly get a spot start.

Warner Madrigal makes Ezequiel Astacio look downright handsome.

Oh, goody.

So

I guess that would mean theres a DL trip in the future for Hurley/Padilla, or that Madrigal is going back down?

Well if both can't make their starts

Mendoza will stay in the rotation. Madrigal will remain in the pen and Nippert plus maybe Mathis, if he’s ready to come off the DL will be starting. If Mathis, can’t go, who else is brought up to start? Do you give Rupe a chance? Do you add Harrison to the forty for a spot start? Yikes this is going to be ugly. But better now to insure we are sellers at the deadline.

Someone will have to go on the DL. Yeah.

Depends on what the trainers tell Wash and JD.

Mathis and mendoza

are bullpen arms. Not that thats a bad thing, but I dont think they have a future as ML starters. Rupe needs to stay in his current role, no use juggling him around with his injury history. The jury is still out on nippert, but he should at least get a chance to start, but when he does he needs to be here to stay because if memory serves, if he gets called up and sent back down again I believe he can elect to become a free agent.

Long term and for the future, yes.

But this isn’t about where Mendoza and Mathis may end up it’s about who’s going to start if Hurley is sidelined, as well as Padilla. There aren’t any better options right now. Harrison can’t get past the sixth inning because he throws to many pitches and well he still has things to work on in OKC. I’d rather not call him up and send him out there to get slaughtered. It certainly won’t help the bullpen any more than Mathis or Mendoza. So if this is a two day to two week thing, a temporary starter from the above two isn’t the worst thing in the world.

The question becomes if not them, whom?

Harrison is on the 40.

Is that how it happened?

We got news of this after interleague games were done.

well,

what about Diamond? If we’re desperate, give Loe a shot. Maybe all he needs is a confidence boost.

Didn’t Nippert toss 7 hitless innings? Maybe he is ready to come back up. Is Jennings done for the year? I don’t remember what happened to him.

Maybe Armando Gall…oh, wait.

Ultimately, Nippert and perhaps Diamond would be the best options for the team right now. Maybe even Wright depending on how rested he feels. I wouldn’t dismiss the idea of bringing up Harrison either.

Diamond is still recovering from TJ

And still working on some stuff, so I don’t think he’s really an option just yet. Kam Loe is on the DL in OKC with a back problem or something, so he can’t be used right now either.

Matt Harrison has been so-so in AAA, but he’s already on the 40-man roster, so if another callup besides Nippert is needed, my guess would be that he’ll get it.

It would be a great time for

McCarthy, Mathis, Gabbard, and Murray to suddenly snap back to health.

one of the most impressive things about Hurley

has been his durability. Sucks that he has a hamstring issue, especially because those type leg injuries usually linger for a while.

pitching in Texas

I am sorta confused (normal state of affairs) about the pitching in Texas. My question is in regards to the quality of injury that this staff has sustained in the last few years in the Bigs and the Minors. If there was a chart that listed all the injuries and time of recovery for all the American and National Leagues, where would Texas be on that chart?

Outside of Tommy John and Thoracic Outlet Syndrome...

You might have a point. The Rangers seem to get lots of shoulder inflammation and hamstring problems. This could be because of genetics in the players the Rangers have signed, but it could also be a problem with the conditioning program.
