7/4 minors
Blake Beavan tonight? 7 innings, 5 Ks, 0 walks, no runs. He's doing pretty good.
Michael Main today? 6 innings, 7 Ks, 2 walks, no runs. He's also doing pretty good, and may be about ready to join Beavan in the Clinton rotation.

Very exciting.
Obviously they’re both very young, but under the assumption that everything goes according to plan (never a safe assumption, but go with it for the sake of argument), what are Beaven and Main’s ETA in Arlington? 2011?

A clarification.
Basically, is there any reason to believe that these guys are being fast-tracked?

Hopefully that will come as his velo increases.
Can’t really complain about anything else.
Maybe Dutch (or Gomez?) gets promoted to Bakersfield and Main fills in at Clinton.
who is Dutch?

I still think that nickname is the best thing this board has ever done
Although the Electrician is pretty sweet too now that I think about it.
The 40 Trumps All!!!
Man this is great
Beavan, Main, Ramirez, Feliz and Holland. Very exciting time to be a Rangers fan.

Ballard
8 ip, 4 h. 0 er, 0 bb, 5 k.
Probably is done since he is at 98 pitches. He only faced 27 batters in 8 innings.
Chris Davis is a beast.
that is nice to see.
Shroom or someone,
What’s Ballard comparisons? Does he max out as a fourth/fifth starter or a bullpen arm? What does everyone think of him?
Yep.
Tonight his fastball velocity was 85-87. His last start he was around 88-90. It’ll be interesting to see how his velocity changes as he piles up more and more innings.
Ballard Velocity
He hit 93 on one pitch according to the stadium gun at Arkansas last Sunday. But as you say, most fastballs were 89-91.
Arkansas stadium gun
I was there—it was a good 2-4 mph fast pretty consistently. The gun there is up in the press box.
Sorry I missed you
It is always good to have Ranger fans in the state.
I was sitting behind the 3rd base dugout. The fellow in front of me, who seemed to be a regular, said the gun was biased on the low side. I found that hard to believe since Diaz was hitting 95-97. If it was biased low, that would have been 97-99…and I’m sure we would have heard about.
I was sitting behind home plate for the last two games
Was on my way home from Clinton, so I stopped in NLR for a couple of days. Diamond was sitting 86-88 on the charting guns and he was getting up to 94 on the stadium gun, so yeah, it was quite a bit fast.
Foot injury?
Maybe keeping his velo down? Or lack of strength/endurance after the TJ?
Those numbers concern me.

That was the second time I had seen him
and his velo was well down from the first time (his first start since TJ). I’d think that the foot problem had quite a bit to do with the drop in velo last start.
Ah, good news (kinda)
Thanks!

That thread is worth checking out for the Miles vs everyone action alone.
He ran the gamut of being wrong in that one.
- Andrus sucks.
- Ballard sucks.
- Celtics won’t win the title.
Clarification of previous statements.
Since writing that, it has come to my attention that his cutter and slider are the same pitch. The wide range in velocity was attributable to changes in the release of the pitch. Lefties get to see a pitch that breaks a bit more, like a slider, and righties see more of a cutter.
Geesh
I really thought coming into the season that he’d be making a push at the big league bullpen right now.
Uh, not so much.

FYI - Thomas Diamond on TV tomorrow
Saturday night at 7:00 TD is scheduled to pitch on local TV – ch 21 KTXA.
Schlact is on TV Sunday night.
Schlacht
Less than 4 Ks per 9, and a K/BB ratio of just over 1.

Diamond should be very interesting.
And speaking of Frisco, Frostad will be leaving OKC to go to the Olympics. Maybe JMJ or Cruz gets called up after the trade deadline. So someone(s) from the Roughriders will move up. Which of the three Frisco outfielders is first in line? Harrison seems most likely, but my Longhorn roots are cheering for Majewski. Mr. Murphy would probably like to move to AAA as well. Does anyone know what the organization thinks of these three. I’m curious as to how they would rank, 1,2, 3.
My semi-informed opinion...
First in line is Harrison but he needs work on pitches away.
Second is probably Majewski who is probably the most likely to succeed in AAA.
Last is Murphy who needs to find a way to hit the ball to the left side at least once a season.
Diamond will be watching on TV.
Ok, probably not, but he won’t be pitching. Diamond is likely headed to the DL with a foot issue.
Expect one of the Diazes to get the start.
That sucks!

A scout friend of mine
saw him pitch a few weeks ago when he was is AA and said that he was very average. Said his velocity was down, he didn’t miss many bats and was bad mechanically.
I guess he’s figuered some things out since his promotion.

Cubs
It seems like they are pushing him up with limited success outside of his first year in pro ball. His WHIP in most of his stops is atrocious.

don’t they have like 7 mil in him

Is the pitching Pimentel in Spokane?
There hasn’t been a lot spoken about him this year. Wasn’t he supposed to be another of the high ceiling arms? Has he been injured or just ineffective and thus never mentioned?
Pimentel
He is in the Spokane rotation and gets the ball tomorrow. He hasn’t been spectacular but he has been effective. He has made four appearances so far this season (3 starts) and has a 3.60 era while holding Northwest league hitters to a .170 avg. Not bad. His K rates aren’t anything special but he has only allowed 9 hits in 15 IP.
He doesn’t turn 19 until December.
Some dude on the Newberg forums is saying Feliz is being promoted to Frisco.
Since it’s just some guy, I doubt it’s true. It does bring up an interesting question though: Would it be good for him to skip Bakersfield altogether?
Oops, hit post a bit too soon.
Do you know if they’re doing anything with Dutch or Gomez?
Also, do you think it’s prudent for him to skip Bakersfield?
WOW
Cool. I’m really high on him, it’ll be interesting to see how he does. If he adjusts quickly, would that put him in line for a possible look next September, or maybe even in August ‘09?

Anybody want to give an over/under on the number of scouts on hand for Feliz start?
There is going a big contingent of scouts and media on hand. Anyone know the exact date yet? I might have to try and get tickets for that one
Monday.
That was Hunter’s next scheduled start… Feliz’s, too. I believe they’ll keep him on schedule.
No clue how many people will be there...
but I will no doubt be driving up for it.
No shit?
Is this just a temporary thing for a spot start or do you think they are going to leave him there?
"The only good is knowledge and the only evil is ignorance."-Socrates
I think that they're going to leave him up there.
If it was a spot start you’d think that they would bring in someone like Evan Reed (like they did before).
This is true...
Some of us have been waiting to see how this all works out. I never thought that they would have Feliz skip A+.
I guess this opens up a spot for Ramirez in Clinton as well?
"The only good is knowledge and the only evil is ignorance."-Socrates
Well then imo they need to move...
Holland or Gomez (or both?) up to Bakersfield to make room for Ramirez as well.
Damn this team has so many prospects right now it’s carzy.
"The only good is knowledge and the only evil is ignorance."-Socrates
My hell it's late...
carzy = crazy.
"The only good is knowledge and the only evil is ignorance."-Socrates
Could be...
Main, Swanson, or Romero moving to Clinton.
Even after this promotion, the RoughRiders need another starter thanks to Diamond’s foot (Joselo Diaz?)... and I wouldn’t bet any money that Hodges is still around a couple weeks from now.
Would they...
have Dutch skip A+ as well?
"The only good is knowledge and the only evil is ignorance."-Socrates
Personally, I think he'd be able to get by on his stuff...
But this velocity is new to him and there’s no telling how it will hold up as the season continues. If I had to choose between Holland and Reed, I’d pick Holland.
I think the organization would like to get Reed with Terry Clark though.
Dutch's velo.
Has he only been around 91-95 this year? Was he in the 88-91 range before?
According to what I've been reading.
I have no personal knowledge other than what I’ve read recently. I think it was MJH’s FFG report at the DMN Blog (lots of letters there…) this morning that alerted me to the newness of Holland’s velocity.
Kershaw path.
I wondered if they’d do that with Feliz. This seems a little earlier than I thought they would push him, because I’m just not sure from the radio reports that he’s got really good control of his slider/changeup. Not to say I think it’s a bad idea, just that I would’ve guessed this would happen a month from now. However, he’s probably close to topping out his innings, which would make now a good time to do it.
Go Rangers!
That is my thought
as well…get his feet wet at AA, ‘cause he may not have too many innings left this year.

His strikeout rate is still worrisome, although it has improved of late.
