Benoit to DL; Nippert purchased and Main to CLN

The inevitable has finally happened. After trying to nurse Joaquin Benoit through a sore shoulder, well, really for the entire year, the Rangers have placed him on the DL. Dustin Nippert as many of you deducted by his being scratched from last night's Oklahoma game, has been purchased and will join the bullpen tonight.

In other news: Guess who is taking Neftali Feliz's spot at Clinton? Michael Main.

Finally, Benoit goes on the DL and Dusty Tits, who recently threw a 7 inning no-hitter is called up.

Main goes to CLN, which balances out the lose of King Feliz.

Eric Hurley and Vicente Padilla are questionable for their next starts against the Angels. The Rangers don't know who will replace them.

King Feliz?

Are we really going to call him that?

by Agreen07 on Jul 5, 2008 3:12 PM CDT   0 recs

Blame it on

thedirkatron and his lame ass, since he is the one who came up with it.

Chris Davis is a beast.

Ok if Feliz works out and does become a true #1

and I use that term loosely he alone will make the Tex trade a boot in the ass to the Braves.

Nippert

I wonder if it would be best to let him start tonight instead of Feldman. Originally they were going to give Feldman a couple days extra rest and with Nippert supposed to start last night he would essentially stay on schedule and allow Feldman another day of rest. I really hate seeing guys go back and forth between rotation and bullpen from OKC to Arlington.

by bigsteve on Jul 5, 2008 3:16 PM CDT   0 recs

Or maybe

Nippert starts on Monday depending on Hurley and Padilla’s health.

"Publicly, Beavan has said in an interview that his velocity has dropped because he's not used to throwing as much and because of all the travel -- late night bus rides, sleeping in hotels, not the best nutrition, etc."

by RangerMad on Jul 5, 2008 4:18 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah...

I think they have to hold off on Dusty Tits in case either one of those guys can’t go.

if nippert doesn't start

do you think the rangers call of matt harrison? He did pretty well his last start, but i definitely don’t think he’s ready (as in polished). I think he can be more than servicable, however.

Harrison

He would be the easiest to give a spot start to since he is on the 40. But we do have an open spot on the 40 so if we needed to purchase someones contract it is possible

I don't know who made it up but

I figure “Dusty” came from Dustin and “tits” came from the Nip in Nippert.

Ok...

what has either one of them done to prove that they are better than the other one at this point in time?

nippert

does not have the stuff to get big league hitters out. he is like the botts of pitching. go back and look at this stats. at no point, over no stretch of time, has he proven himself to be a big league pitcher.

tejeda will never be an ace. there is no danger of him going off and doing what volquez did. but he has had stretches where he looked dominant in the big leagues. i think the rangers should have been more patient with him in trying him in the bullpen.

but thanks for all the insightful replies.

by clark on Jul 5, 2008 6:01 PM CDT   0 recs

He's got stuff

Just not the other stuff (composure, control, the inexplicabe ‘it’).

look up his (minor) league stats

aleast we go a closer

wilson probably today was as nasty as a pitcher can get… he had about 14 pitches and i bet all 14 would have ben swing and miss … when he controls that fastball ..watchout..
