Lineup
2B Ian Kinsler
SS Michael Young
CF Josh Hamilton
DH MIlton Bradley
RF David Murphy
LF Brandon Boggs
1B Chris Davis
C Max Ramirez
3B Ramon Vazquez
Chris Davis is a beast.
no
swap Murphy and Davis, then swap Max and Brandon. THAT would be our best lineup.

I'll
take Cruz in the OF, with Murphy on the bench.

I think we were talking about this in the Nationals series
Some fans in that area were Senators fans and followed the team to Texas, and the DC area has a lot of Texas alumni… Baltimore is close enough to go, too.
Good point
If finances were looking different, I was planning a trip to Baltimore in August to watch the Rangers. I’d be staying with a friend in D.C., but she said it’d take me about 45 minutes to drive to Camden from where she lives.

The man just can't hit lefties
but overall I think he’s a 4th. He’s producing better than I thought he could but it’s only a matter of time before his numbers begin to represent a 4th outfielder. On another note, I’d love to see Cruz get one more shot in the OF later this year.

Tired of Murphy wasting oppurtunities?
He is a young player, and we are a developing team….but in this slump it seems everytime there is a player at 3rd with less than 2 outs he dosen’t get the job done.
Not saying he should be benched, but he had better pick it up after the all-star break or Boggs or JMJ will take his spot.
Murphy
I am really sick of this guy.
Nice defensive replacement, probably fits as a 4th OF, not a starter.
That said, we have another #1 pick, college OF in the org, right behind him, with pretty lousy plate discipline coming up, who suddenly got religion as a 24-yo in AAA.
Eh.

Pedroia has turned on lately. Up to hitting…
.313/357/462 with a 112 OPS+

so?
How does that make him anything better than the third base second baseman in the AL?
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
I'm not saying it's the right decision of Pedroia over Kins...
but it’s not as big of an outrage as it was a couple months ago
Stars in a Texas Night Sky, a Dallas Stars blog from a fan's perspective.
The best player should get in
Its really that simple. When the best player doesn’t get in because a player who is clearly not having as good of a season as him plays in Boston, that isn’t defensible at all.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
Do we know Kinsler hasn't made it in?
Not yet. If Kinsler doesn’t make the roster, then I’m all for outrage being poured all over this atrocity, but at the moment I’ll reserve judgment. Do I wish Kinsler was starting though? Yes. But until we’re consistently winning divisions, we’re not going to get the media attention the other big teams get.
Stars in a Texas Night Sky, a Dallas Stars blog from a fan's perspective.
well
I’m not going picketing through the streets of New York saying this is the worst thing to happen to America, but I think there is no way you can defend this decision outside of saying Boston fans are idiots as is the entire fan voting process.

"Boy, that is a gutless, 6-foot-7, .200-hitting formerly good player. What a joke." -Tom Grieve RE: Richie Sexson
Its nowhere close
Kinsler is so far ahead of everyone else and Pedroia is a distant third. Roberts is slightly defensible, Pedroia is far from it.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
Dewan's +/- system
It has Pedroia as 17 runs ahead of Kinsler defensively so far this year.
BP has Kinsler at 19-20 runs ahead of Pedroia offensively.
So, yeah, I think there’s a legitimate argument that it is pretty close.
by Adam J. Morris on Jul 6, 2008 1:16 PM CDT up reply actions
That's hilarious
Even if you want to go with exact defensive metrics, Kinsler is still ahead of Pedroia.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
Why is it hilarious?
If two players are within 2-3 runs of each other over the course of a half-season, I don’t see how it is indefensible to go with either one.
by Adam J. Morris on Jul 6, 2008 1:18 PM CDT up reply actions
You are looking
at the exact number of runs based on offense and defense. If those are the two metrics you choose to go with, you still have it clearly showing that Kinsler has been better than Pedroia.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
And how many fans even know about those metrics...
Honestly, for the 2 to finish 34,000 votes apart is pretty amazing considering I would bet a lot of fans still don’t even know who Ian Kinsler is around major league baseball.
Stars in a Texas Night Sky, a Dallas Stars blog from a fan's perspective.
Okay
I don’t think the fans voting in the 2nd best second baseman in the league, who is within a couple of runs of being hte best, is an outrage and indefensible.
If you do, that’s fine. But I don’t.
by Adam J. Morris on Jul 6, 2008 1:23 PM CDT up reply actions
Exactly...
outrage would have been if the fans had voted in Robinson Cano.
Stars in a Texas Night Sky, a Dallas Stars blog from a fan's perspective.
Okay
So the starter being the wrong selection is completely fine by you?
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
I think when you are within a couple of runs either way...
...you are probably within the margin of error.
by Adam J. Morris on Jul 6, 2008 1:30 PM CDT up reply actions
Also,
does that include SB totals for both? EQA has Kinsler at .318 and Pedroia at .281. That seems to be a huge difference throughout the season.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
Yes
Both VORP and RARP include stolen bases.
by Adam J. Morris on Jul 6, 2008 1:23 PM CDT up reply actions
Kinsler has had many more chances than Pedroia.
202 POs for Kinsler vs. 156 POs for Pedroia
281 Assists vs. 242 Assists
84 DPs vs. 51 DPs
Basically, Kinsler’s Range Factor/game is a full chance more per game than Pedroia’s (5.51 vs. 4.52).
"Boy, that is a gutless, 6-foot-7, .200-hitting formerly good player. What a joke." -Tom Grieve RE: Richie Sexson
Also
I think TBIA has played a little less hitter-friendly the last couple of years than it has historically, and has this year. So I think that the park effect factors BP is using may slightly understate the offensive advantage of playing half your games at TBIA right now.
by Adam J. Morris on Jul 6, 2008 1:18 PM CDT up reply actions

It’s not a big conspiracy.. some players are just more popular with the casual baseball fan than ours. Plus, I’d rather not chance one of our guys getting hurt or messing up their swing in a goofy exhibition game.

Here's an idea
It’s obvious the only one Millwood can pitch to with any effectiveness at all is Gerald Laird… so we should send them off as a package deal. That clears up the catcher logjam a bit and gets rid of a crappy “ace.”
