Chris Davis is a beast.

That's pretty much our best possible lineup

Though I do agree that Josh should get more rest.

no

swap Murphy and Davis, then swap Max and Brandon. THAT would be our best lineup.

that just means

there have been a couple games where the rangers got destroyed. and many games that the rangers won by 1 or 2 runs.

lost 3-11 on april 18
lost 2-10 on april 22
lost 6-19 on april 23 (low point anybody??)
lost 6-12 on april 26
lost 6-12 on may 11
lost 4-11 on may 20
lost 8-13 on june 1
lost 9-15 on june 4
lost 4-12 on june 6
lost 1-7 on june 13
lost 7-18 on july 2

Its really that simple. When the best player doesn’t get in because a player who is clearly not having as good of a season as him plays in Boston, that isn’t defensible at all.

Do we know Kinsler hasn't made it in?

Not yet. If Kinsler doesn’t make the roster, then I’m all for outrage being poured all over this atrocity, but at the moment I’ll reserve judgment. Do I wish Kinsler was starting though? Yes. But until we’re consistently winning divisions, we’re not going to get the media attention the other big teams get.

well maybe not you personally. If Pedroia plays for the Royals, Kinsler is the all-star starter.

by Agreen07 on Jul 6, 2008 1:18 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Its nowhere close

Kinsler is so far ahead of everyone else and Pedroia is a distant third. Roberts is slightly defensible, Pedroia is far from it.

Dewan's +/- system

It has Pedroia as 17 runs ahead of Kinsler defensively so far this year.

BP has Kinsler at 19-20 runs ahead of Pedroia offensively.

So, yeah, I think there’s a legitimate argument that it is pretty close.

by Adam J. Morris on Jul 6, 2008 1:16 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

That's hilarious

Even if you want to go with exact defensive metrics, Kinsler is still ahead of Pedroia.

By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw

by Gdawg on Jul 6, 2008 1:17 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Why is it hilarious?

If two players are within 2-3 runs of each other over the course of a half-season, I don’t see how it is indefensible to go with either one.

by Adam J. Morris on Jul 6, 2008 1:18 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

You are looking

at the exact number of runs based on offense and defense. If those are the two metrics you choose to go with, you still have it clearly showing that Kinsler has been better than Pedroia.

-The Outlaw

by Gdawg on Jul 6, 2008 1:20 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yes

Kinsler has had many more chances than Pedroia.

202 POs for Kinsler vs. 156 POs for Pedroia
281 Assists vs. 242 Assists
84 DPs vs. 51 DPs

Basically, Kinsler’s Range Factor/game is a full chance more per game than Pedroia’s (5.51 vs. 4.52).

Also

I think TBIA has played a little less hitter-friendly the last couple of years than it has historically, and has this year. So I think that the park effect factors BP is using may slightly understate the offensive advantage of playing half your games at TBIA right now.
