How awesome is Kinsler? Let's count the ways.

I'm sure some of you have heard of Ian Kinsler, who seems to be having a career year.  I just think it's fun once in a while to gush about a player who is doing so damn well in a Ranger uniform.  Right now, I might consider him the Rangers MVP.

Star-divide

Below are various measurements of awesomeness, and where Kinsler ranks among AL players (all positions).  Most are from Baseball Reference or The Hardball Times.  Heady stuff for a 2B.  His fielding may be average or below, but overall, the best 2B in the AL this year so far.

OPS                 .932     5th

Adj. OPS +      148      5th

Win Shares       16        1st

WSAB             10        2nd

Batting WS       14.7     tie-1st

Runs Created   81        1st

RC/27 outs       8.01     4th

Adj. Bat Runs   25        2nd

Batting Wins     2.4       2nd

XB Hits            46        1st

Times on Base  156      1st

Off. Win Pct.    .732     4th

Pwr/Speed       17.4     2nd

Avg.                 .328     1st

OBP                .387     9th

SLG                 .544     6th

Runs                 77        1st

Hits                  118      1st

TB                   196      1st

Doubles            28        3rd

Triples              4          tie-3rd

HR                   14        tie-7th

RBI                  53        tie-7th

Sac Hits           6          2nd

SB                   23        4th

(96% success rate, 1st among those with more than 9 SB)

One slight downer note.  THT's PrOPS, a measure that predicts OPS based on batted balls, HR,  BBs, and K's,  marks Kinsler as the luckiest player in the AL, and puts his "real" OPS .090 points below his actual mark at .842.  Of course, he still ranks first in PrOPS among AL 2b...

If Kinsler keeps up this pace

MLB will have to consider him for MVP.

That's ridiculous

Fans can vote Pedroia into the All Star Game if they want, but it’s more than far fetched to say Kinsler would be overlooked for MVP just because he’s not as well known. Unlike the All Star balloting, it’s not a popularity contest.

So if Hamilton and Davis...

are the Beasticon’s, what does that make Kinsler?

That is what

I called Hamilton from his first game.I do not know if Kinsler is big enough to be a monster. It is definately a great nickname.

Kinsler

On the front page of ESPN’s MLB section right now. Story is on who should “really” be starting in the All-Star game.

btw

if you add width=”350” (or whatever number) into the image tag it will shrink any pic to a more board appropriate size.

2 games over 500 please.

Ian's Splits are interesting

AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB HBP SO SB CS BA OBP SLG OPS
Home 161 38 60 14 3 3 17 16 3 19 14 0 .373 .432 .553 .985
Away 196 37 56 13 1 10 34 16 2 29 9 1 .286 .343 .515 .858

Amazing increase in OBP at home, but his power numbers (except for barely SLG) are greater on the road.

"Right now, I might consider him the Rangers MVP."

There’s no question in my mind that he’s the Rangers first-half MVP, and that’s no snub to Milton Bradley. Right now, I might consider him the first-half American League MVP.

Thanks for adding that

I don’t have a subscription. About the EqA, though: Adam said in his main post today that Kinsler’s EqA was .314. Which is right?

Time you enjoy wasting was not wasted.

today's game

probably boosted him up a bit. I know when I checked Kinsler’s EQA earlier today, it was at .314.

By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

I don't think I actually posted anything you need a subscription for.

Players’ DT pages, which is where WARP and BRAA/R come from, are free. You can’t sort the VORP leaders without a subscription, but you can look at them.

Also, Adam was right. I was right about where he places, but I printed J.D. Drew’s EqA on accident. Though I think Adam printed .314 before last night’s numbers were compiled, because, right now, it’s at .318.
