ok hammy
bradley isnt in the game. we know who is hitting 5-6.
xbh time. or with a man on third the single would be ok, but man… 19 games (20?) without a HR is more than enough.
2 games over 500 please.
I still think
the hit and run is one of the most beautiful things in baseball

Kinsler only lost the voting by 34,000
man, we almost closed the gap. 180,000 to 34,000.
2 games over 500 please.
Good grief
Kinsler and Hamilton didn’t help me decide which player tee to get there. They both reached base.
That's not what I meant
I’m looking at all-star game merch, and am debating between Kins and Hamilton. I couldn’t decide so I said their next ABs would decide for me, and well….they didn’t. Is a hit > a walk?

what is the player supposed to do, sit there and wait for the fielder to get the ball?

ehh
he was slightly out of the baseline….don’t think that’s interference though

How is that an error?
I thought you can’t assume a double play, and no runners moved up any more than they otherwise would have
the error allowed the run to score, right?

so how
besides Pacman Jones and Sherrill did the O’s get any other star potential players in the Tejada and Bedard deals becaus if there isn’t a few young studs that I am missing I say they lost both deals?

pretty much just decent salary relief
in that Tejada trade.

-The Outlaw
I agree with you that
Tejada sucks but I think its more in a Tex kind of way where nobody wants to be around him

more of a he really sucks kind of way
Declining OPS+ since 04. He had a 109 OPS+ last season and now a 99 OPS+
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
Its below average
And he’s getting paid 13 million dollars to be a supposed power hitter at the SS position. For all the complaining about Young, at least he is still above average and hasn’t seen his game decline that much throughout the years.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
He has 10 HR and 44 RBI in the first half
I am pretty sure thats not below avg. for a SS, but I do not have the energy to fight you and look up stats right now I am sick and trying to put up with this game
by blueballlefty on Jul 6, 2008 4:07 PM CDT up reply actions
I can help you with that
RBIs are pointless and his HRs, if above average for a SS, means that every other part of his game is well below average
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
so a triple crown stat is pointless?
sorry I dont agree there is something to being able to drive in runs, us of all teams should be able to appreciate that. and how is “every other part of his game below avg.”?
by blueballlefty on Jul 6, 2008 4:11 PM CDT up reply actions
All 3 of the triple crown stats...
...are rather weak ways to evaluate a player.
by Adam J. Morris on Jul 6, 2008 4:13 PM CDT up reply actions
just to be clear
you could win the triple crown and be a weak player?
by blueballlefty on Jul 6, 2008 4:14 PM CDT up reply actions
not trying to argue but
if thats possible then you would think that it would happen more than once every 30 years or so
by blueballlefty on Jul 6, 2008 4:17 PM CDT up reply actions
not really
You have your contact hitters, your power hitters, and your good hitters in good-great lineups. There are few that hit for contact well-enough and hit for enough power to lead the league in both those categories. There are even fewer that happen to be in a good enough lineup where they can lead the league in RBIs.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
That would be very unlikely
However, I don’t think average/homers/RBIs are the best way to judge a player’s offensive contributions.
by Adam J. Morris on Jul 6, 2008 4:16 PM CDT up reply actions
I dont
think they are the only way but I do think in most scenerios they are some very good indicators of what kind of production you can get from them
by blueballlefty on Jul 6, 2008 4:19 PM CDT up reply actions
Tejada
He’s got a .259 EQA. That’s not real good, even for a shortstop.
He’s not a good defensive player.
His HRs and RBIs are irrelevant. He’s just not a real good player anymore.
by Adam J. Morris on Jul 6, 2008 4:22 PM CDT up reply actions
Uncle
ok there it is y’all win he’s not that good anymore
by blueballlefty on Jul 6, 2008 4:27 PM CDT up reply actions
There is more to baseball
than hitting a few HRs and being able to get lucky that you’re hits are with runners in scoring position.
Right now, Tejada’s OPS is 7th among 10 eligible NL SSs.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
I know there is
just think that having Tejada playing SS or preferably 3rd base is a pretty good option thats all.
by blueballlefty on Jul 6, 2008 4:16 PM CDT up reply actions
a few years ago, it was
but right now, he is a below average option who is getting worse and worse.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.
-The Outlaw
I think
if you are looking at a player that is on a team with a very low OBP as a team then I think RBI’s are not so important but on an avg MLB team I think all three of those stats are can be very telling of what kind of production a player will give
by blueballlefty on Jul 6, 2008 4:23 PM CDT up reply actions
.259 EQA
And bad defense.
He’s not very good.
by Adam J. Morris on Jul 6, 2008 4:07 PM CDT up reply actions

How sad is it that Young’s .762 OPS leads all AL shortstops? Not exactly the ARod/Jeter/Nomar/Tejada days, huh?

Hey atleast CJ didn't walk anyone...
as there is no excuse with a 3 run lead. A save is a save and he’s now 21 for 23 which is an awesome percentage.
Just think of it this way. If CJ can get that kind of percentage when he’s somewhat struggling, wait til he gets into a groove. Yes, he’s probably gotten a tad lucky so far with that ERA but he’s gotten it done regardless.
Bad coaching decisions cost us that 3rd Yankee game...
