Milton Bradley and bat throwing

I'm not sure if this has been discussed elsewhere, but M.B.'s bat throwing is getting ridiculous. It seems like a bat goes flying out of his hands nearly once a game, and  it finally did some damage-after a rip and a miss last night the bat went twirling into the 4th row and some fan wore it in the face bad enough that an Angels player had to throw a towel into the stands to help get the bleeding stopped. (I was at the game so I don't know how much Josh and Tom talked about it.) I obviously haven't watched the other teams as much as I've watched the Rangers, but I'd be willing to bet no one else in baseball comes anywhere close to throwing the bat as much as he does. What happens when he kills somebody? What would happen if baseball instituted a rule where so many bat flings led to a penalty of some sort--a fine or a 1 game suspension or something? (not really sure how I feel about that, just a thought)

i can only imagine

that it is much more likely that the league put up more netting (not unlike hockey) than penalize the players for this. however much more likely is that it remains a “enter at your own risk” proposition. a batted ball is much more dangerous than a thrown bat. if you’re paying attention you have enough time to get out of the way of a thrown bat about 3 times over.

Or
what about all those hard hit balls into the stands? Maybe MLB should put nets around the entire field to protect the fans.

Sarcasm aside, I would argue that baseballs are a bigger threat than the bats. Fans just have to pay attention.

that's new

apparently my fake “sarcasm” tags didn’t want to show up.

the thing that scares me the most at games

is if you are sitting in section 31 or the equivalent for right handers section, you could really end up dead if you arent paying attention and guys bring their wives and sit them their and the women chat on cell phones and people bring their kids that close and the kids dont keep their eyes on the game.

if people continue to not pay attention in those sections, some1 is gonna die, and its gonna be a little child or a wife and it will be a tragedy. if you arent gonna pay attention the whole game every pitch, sit in the OF, it could save your life.

MB

I was watching the game last night when the bat went flying out of his hands and I even thought to myself “man that happens to him more than anyone I’ve ever seen before.” Now, the problem as I see it is that he either needs different batting gloves or he needs more pine tar on the grip, because let’s face it he’s not actually throwing the bat it’s slipping out of his hands. Like what gerry said above I think it leads more than likely to more netting rather than penalize the player.

Well I can pretend to be Britney Spears. I'm already standing in urine and I'm with someone I don't like.

His grip

next time you are watching try and look at how he holds the bat. Its very loose while he is waiting for the pitch. he then tightens up as he swings. Thgis leads to it slipping out of his hands quite often.

As others have said if you are paying attention you can get out of the way of a flying bat alot more than a batted ball.

That's it.

Ya know

that’s really a great idea. Obviously it will take someone getting killed first, but if MLB is ever faced with this, I hope they choose this idea over extended netting.

This is dumb

People just need to pay attention. Twenty bucks says that person who got hit by Bradley’s bat wasn’t, or was doing something stupid like trying to catch it.

Penalizing the players? Come on. You need to take the “danger” outta your name, son.

I'm not really talking shit

If I were talking shit, you’d know it. I just said your idea is dumb, which it is, and pointed out the irony of you being afraid of airborne baseball bats while naming yourself “rangerdanger”.

completely agree..

everyone knows the consequences of sitting close at the game…pay attention to the action or sit somewhere else

usually

seems to happen on off-speed pitches where he gets fooled badly.

it is getting a little ridiculous, i wouldn’t be surprised if baseball told him to do what he can to stop at some point.

Pay attention to the game

and there wouldn’t be any problem. People have been going to baseball games for years. How many have died in the stands?
