BA Chat Action
Lots of good action in the BA chat:
Justin Abilene Tx: Matt Harrison Pitched great for my rangers last night against a very good angels team, in your opinion is this a fluke or is he the real thing?
Jim Callis: (2:08 PM ET ) I'm not saying he'll pitch like that every time out, but Harrison can become a solid mid-rotation starter.
Porkchop: Can Neftali Feliz crack your top 25 by next year?
Jim Callis: (2:10 PM ET ) Yes. We're updating our overall top 25 in the current issue (it will be up at baseballamerica.com shortly as well), and Feliz may be higher than you suspect.
Ray, St Louis: Read where Feliz was regularly throwing in the upper 90's and touched 101 several times. Wow! How far off is he from pitching for the Ragners?
Jim Callis: (2:13 PM ET ) He only turned 20 two months ago and he's only in low Class A, so it's more a matter of being patient than anything. I think the Rangers will avoid rushing him, but he may push his way to Texas sometime next year.
Porkchop's dad (Minden, La.): What do you think about Chris Davis? Do you think there's any chance Texas sends him back to AAA when Blalock comes back? I hope not.
Jim Callis: (2:14 PM ET ) I think that would be a hard sell. Davis has torn up the minors the last two years and has five homers in his first 12 big league games.
Taylor, Atl: Hearing all the prospects the Braves gave up for Teixeira playing great in the Rangers system makes me sick! Salty is growing as a player, Andrus looks like the future SS, Feliz a potential ace, Harrison a 3-4 starter, and Beau Jones a hard throwing lefty out of the pen. Question is, if the Braves look move Teixeira can they get half of what they gave up to get him? Thanks!
Jim Callis: (2:15 PM ET ) Probably not much more than half, considering Teixeira will test free agency after the season.
Brock Sampson: Trevor Cahill or Neftali Feliz?
Jim Callis: (2:41 PM ET ) Feliz.

yummy
Good to hear about Harrison. I pray he turns into a mid-rotation guy, that would be great for us.

I think that puts
Neftali dangerously close to the top 10-15 players in the minors. Crazy.

Wow it seems like if Davis didnt
get promoted the rangers may have had 2 top 25ers (andrus, davis, and feliz). Although I guess they will still include davis in the rankings, huh?

I believe
that they exclude guys in the majors in their midseason rankings. Thus Davis wouldn’t be there.
But yeah, he would have had a shot at giving them two of the top 25. Even with Andrus coming on, I don’t think he would figure in that high.

Andrus
you really think they are going to drop him from 19 to out of the top 25? I mean as a 19 y/o he is hitting .295 with a .706 ops with potentially plus defense albeit inconsistent right now. The ops isnt impressive unless you look at his age and position. I guess we will know in a few days or so.

Well
you may be right, especially considering that we’re at a point where quite a few guys have promoted and I’m not sure that new draftees are considered (and even if they are, not that many of the top guys have signed).
The reason I said what I said is that I wasn’t getting the sense that scouts were exactly blown away with Andrus so far this year (especially prior to the last couple of weeks). Goldstein had him classified as something like “way down” from his offseason top 100 not too long ago.

Oh yeah it
could go either way. Yeah i remember the Goldstein comment. In the end, you will probably be right about leaving him off. I wont agree with it of course :-)

Very, very nice
Crazy to hear how high Feliz might be. I’m assuming he’ll be top 25 since he’s mentioned as being part of their top 25 re-do. But how high? And how much higher would Callis be on him if he knew Feliz was no longer “only in low Class A”?

I was a little thrown off by the fact
that he wasn’t aware that he was promoted.

Meh
In these chats they seem to try to answer questions as fast as possible and definitely don’t have time to look anything up. Slip ups like that seem to happen fairly often. I’m sure he knows but it just slipped his mind.

he might also
have just meant that he has spent most of his season in low A so far this season.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

Yah!
I almost murdered seven puppies when I heard they only ranked him 5th in our very loaded system during the off season.
The audacity…
When did they hate on Feliz?

Last winter's rankings
of 5th in the Texas system and 93rd in the minors were fair. I’m more talking about a) 18th the year before in the Braves system when I think everyone knew he was much better than that (and you might be able to blame it primarily on Ballew who does a crappy job imo) and b) his lack of presence on Hot Sheets for almost the entire first half as well as no buzz from chats, while guys like Joulys Chacin were being pimped as the stories of the season.

can everyone remember when the Tex deal happened and everyone thought Feliz was a throw-in?
or you know, got thrown in late…..just spiced up the trade a lil more, but nobody had any freakin clue that this was going to happen….
or people knew he was a high ceiling arm, but still…..hopefully my point is taken in the right context…..damnit…
