this ranks right up there with the Kevin Elster mission impossible slide at home...

...not sure it beats September 26, 1996… when they hung that “F” on the out-of-town scoreboard…

Man...what a moment that was.

I was behind home plate with my dad. He was listening to his radio, and as soon as they updated the Seattle score on the radio, he just stood up and started clapping, along with a few hundred other random people with radios.

I have never seen the crowd at the ballpark as jacked up as it was after Josh hit that dinger. When he swung you could just see it clear the fence. I was Amazing. Everyone was standing up and making noise without being prompted. It was electric. I have to admit I didn’t feel good about the outcome before the game started but Warner threw about 30 pitches in 3 inning and gave up a run. Rupe did a nice job keeping us in the game. Frankie gave up the 2 run homer and then Wright did a very nice job to finish out the game.

At least on the first part. I thought the Rockies were a better team who were getting underrated and playing a little under their heads.

by philkid3 on Jul 9, 2008 11:07 PM CDT up reply actions

Got to disagree

The Rangers have 3 MVP candidates right now on offense, an amazing year out of Vazquez, every rookie is making an instant impact. The pitching favors the Rockies a lot more, but they only came together in the second half. Starters had a first half ERA of 4.71 and relievers had a first half ERA of 4.47. The Rangers though have dealt with more injuries throughout the entire team too.

Maybe if someone could find third order wins for them through the first 88 games.

by philkid3 on Jul 9, 2008 11:14 PM CDT up reply actions

true re; injuries

the Rockies dealt with the same injuries as we have had this year, and look at them compared to last year. basically, last season EVERYTHING had to fall in the right way for them to make their run last year. if we had EVERYTHING fall in place this year, we’d have opened with healthy Millwood, Padilla, McCarthy, Gabbard, figured out really quickly that Mendoza wasn’t our 5th starter and gone with Hurley sooner or later, had CJ, Jack Benny, and Frankie Fran doing their thing, Fukumori would have been the 2nd coming (of Otsuka), Rupe, Wright and Guardado would have all been doing what they can do, Hank would’ve stayed healthy (although not sure if that’s the best for us seeing how well Vazquez is playing) and Laird wouldn’t have gone down. We still would’ve found a way to get rid of Broussard and call Davis up, and I guarantee with all of those things happening, we would be a few games on top of the Angels right now. That is BEST case scenario. That is what happened to the Rockies last year. We are much more talented, in my opinion, than their team was last year. Their top four of Holliday, Helton, Atkins and Hawpe are pretty good but I don’t think as effective as our top for. Not sure their pitching was better than what our maximized rotation potential could be. Not sure about that at all…

Well, another thing is the Rox had some better pitchers

With Jeff Francis and Ubaldo Jimenez. No way with our current rotation we could do what they did. But with our offense, and our young players, this team could be a dangerous dark horse next year.

They're Winning In Spite Of Things

I know it’s probably a little bit of the hangover from the walkoff, but for the first time in several years I get the feeling that victories like tonight’s and situations like either halving a series or taking two out of three from teams like the Angels and As is no longer exceptional.

Don’t get me wrong…this was as sweet a win as I can remember in recent memory. It’s just that I feel like they’re turning the corner as a team from always having something to point at as the reason for a loss to winning IN SPITE OF those reasons.

I think that’s part of the reason they’ve been bumping around .500 for so long. They’re getting it. In spite of the errors and in spite of the pitching, they’re figuring how out to win.

That’s pretty damned exciting!

Well

Here’s my horrible awesome write-up of the ninth-inning festivities, complete with handy video.

What an awesome game.

wow

im sitting here the lone rangers fan in New Jersey getting chills reading this blog.. I lived there in the 80s moved here and the nineties only to have our two playoff runs ended by the hometown team. as i watched the walkoff on mlb.com as it happened, it made me feel like this team can do something THIS season..

btw.. on Mike and Mike this morning, when the subject of the AL West was brought up.. Greeny said the Angels were the favorite and the As were still in it… Golic jumped in and said.. DONT FORGET THE RANGERS, THEY”RE NOT OUT OF IT..

LETS GO RANGERS!!!

They are replaying it on FSN right now

Took an hour to replay most of the game and it’s almost to Josh. Even though I know it’s coming, I might frighten some co workers because there is a good chance I yell anyway. This makes for a nice lunch break.
