Stupid ways to land on the d.l.
Khalil Greene's bad season just got worse:
As the Padres feared, shortstop Khalil Greene fractured his left hand on Wednesday night when he slammed a storage chest at Petco Park in frustration over his season-long slump.
Greene's return for this season is doubtful, according to the club. A Padres spokesman said the club probably will comment on Greene's injury later on Thursday.
This has been a disastrous season for the Padres, who came thisclose to making the playoffs last year, and have the third worst record in baseball this year.

There is no such thing as global warming. David Murphy was cold, so he turned the sun up.

Pulling a Kenny Rogers?
Plaschke: Scioscia, the former Dodgers catcher, is the model manager who has created an atmosphere of winning.
Junior:It's that simple. Mike Scioscia brings a Glade Plug-In labeled "Winning™" into the clubhouse and everyone who breathes it in gains 15 points in average.

Khalil Greene
is just a bad baseball player. I’m completely convinced that the only reason that pitchers don’t take advantage of his glaring weaknesses as a hitter is because in Petco it doesn’t matter how you pitch people, they just pop out.
Greene is Nellie Cruz at SS.

This is why San Diego annoys me
From Ducksnorts, a big San Diego blog
As for Greene, I can’t imagine that anyone feels worse right now about this than he does. Sure, we’ve had to watch the guy struggle along with the rest of the Padres this year, but he’s actually trying to do a job. Comparing our frustration as fans with his as a player strikes me as a bit silly.
Aww… we’re supposed to feel sorry for Khalil – its really tough being him. I’m sorry I made fun of him, he’s only a fellow human being trying to live in this crazy world of ours.
Please… spare us all. The guy is a bad baseball player. Sure I feel bad for a guy who wakes up every morning and sucks at his job as much as he does, but I’ll never sympathize with someone who breaks his hand punching a closet. He’s an idiot. Why is it that people refuse to allow other people to be responsible for their actions?
The gaslampball guy’s response is more appropriate.
You see, this is what happens. This is what happens when you hold all of your emotions inside this long. They just spill out in the form of storage chest violence. If you told me that this would happen at the beginning of the season I wouldn’t have believed you. It’s like the neighbors of serial killers, they always seem like nice gentlemen that are just simply quiet and keep to themselves. As a Major League Ball Club, I think I’d have a punching bag room adjacent to the dugout. Either that or have a room full of cheap crystal glasses, tea cups and malfunctioning printers so that a player can go in there and vent. Line the room with rubber so those guys can’t get hurt.

guaranteed pay
teams should not have to pay salaries for players who injure themselves through their own stupidity – at least not while they are on the DL

Voiding Contracts
They do have clauses to protect themselves from players injuring themselves in certain ways. However, that involves voiding a contract, which means they would no longer have control of Greene. I don’t think they want to do that.
