If you’re in such a rush to be the first to post breaking news on the site that you can’t do a quick control-c, control-v, then maybe you should take a deep breath and calm down a bit. Reassess your priorities and shit, ya know?

Kinda bummer:
JD was obviously upset about things…he said that he told Connor that if changed some things, he would love to have him back in the org…said that Mark was a great man, and a great teacher.
I dunno…don’t want to start a baseless rumor…but JD did sound upset.

I'll say this for JW
He will at least stick around and debate you on what he said that usually gets everyone riled up. Seven/LBrooks used to back in the day. Ruger never did which is why I never cared for him. I at least respect JW for sticking around to debate, I still hold respect for Seven because I know how he used to be as a poster even if he is now more intent on riling up the masses.

I wonder
Why it is that people care about whether sports reporters and especially announcers are “shills”. It seems as if you just want to hear your own opinion parroted back to you. Are you that insecure in what you feel that you need somebody on the team’s payroll to validate it for you?
by brettgardner on Aug 1, 2008 11:46 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Brad Sham is one of my favorites.
During the games, he will actually place blame on the Cowboys player, sometimes when it isn’t even their fault.
And I’m pretty sure I’m not alone on this. Peter King listed him at the top of his list of favorites in a mailbag last year. Doesn’t mean you have to like him, I’m just pointing out that he’s well-respected.

Yeah, but remember the Chris Young/Adrian Gonzalez trade?
I don’t buy it. That is 2.5 years ago, and a million different other things have happened since then. Some good, some bad.
The bottom line is, if you hold one bad deal over an organization’s head, you’re missing the bigger picture.
Now, if you want to bring up the Chris Young/Adrian Gonzalez trade in relevant situations, I have no problem with it. But it bothers me when people use it as a crutch to criticize an organization. It’s the lowest common denominator, and it is childish and ignorant.

I know he did.
But the point is that he has no relevance to this topic. He’s simply trying to bash JD.
And if he wants to do that, fine. He’s certainly bashworthy in some ways. But to lump it together with what (IMO) is a pretty good move by the organization makes him an idiot.
Really, I should have just said he was a troll. That would have cleared everything right up. The point is that I’m just wasting my time, apparently.

Johnny Drama was the most annoying character I’ve come across in a long, long time. And I guess if they’d tried really hard they could’ve made “E” a little less likable. But it would’ve been difficult.

Awesome
DShep says is above, but I’ll say it again – this pitching staff is so horrendously bad that any impact of Connor and Chiti had to have been negative. Cause they certainly couldn’t be making anything better. And if your coaches can’t make it better, hire someone who can.

Connor & Chiti
As I said in the post-game thread, the timing was a bit surprising- I expected it to come down at the end of the year, but I can’t say I disagree with either firing.
The Rangers definitely need more pitching, but the ones they have also have the potential and the ability to be better, and Connor and Chiti clearly weren’t making a positive difference. Hawkins has a good reputation; hopefully, he and Colborn can get more out of this staff.

For what it’s worth, I would enjoy seeing people toss out the “flip-flopper” label while a guy’s in the middle of endorsing a position they agree with.
It’s all a very silly process. As long as a guy’s showing some nuance in his thoughts, and an ability to adapt, I’m fine with it. Obama on this, Bush with his “horizon”, McCain with his recent reasonable approach to Social Security.

Makes me wonder...
...about Obama. After reading his book, things like this seem to fit into his general style/core value. Namely, having a position on an issue, and then if a new solution or a compromise shows itself, being open to considering it.
In this case, I believe he said that he would consider allowing states to decide if they would include increasing funding for alternate fuel research/bring alternate fuel research online. I like this idea. Just like I like the idea of drilling in Alaska while simultaneously increasing mpg limits, putting more money into wind and cellulose-based ethanol (not effing corn!), and exploring bring shale online (I don’t think oil is going to drop below $80/barrel anytime soon, let’s get on it folks).
Basically, our energy needs are only going to grow, so lets actually address the issue with new ideas instead of just figuring out ways to prolong the system we currently have.

Well...
The timing is a little surprising, but this shouldn’t be a shocking move to any of us. When you have the worst pitching in the league something like this is bound to happen. Someone was going to take the fall.
I would like to think that this could help the staff, but I just don’t think coaches and managers have that big of an impact on many of these players. I guess we will see.

Ding Ding Ding we have a wiener!
I was waiting to see if someone would bring this up, and yes he did. he has a great eye for fixing things, like sylar, but for good not evil.
Things to expect while he is up here:
-Change matt harrison’s arm slot so he can actually get a strikeout.
-Tinker with Eddie’s fastball so it can gain a few tick up in mph, somewhere near 85 should be good.
-Alter Hurley’s delivery so he doesnt get injured every time he pitches.
-Give padilla a nice massage before the game, that or a nice hard bitch slap, whatever he needs to get going that day.
-Hide the doughnuts from Millwood, so he can keep his fat ass in shape and get a couple of starts out of him.
-Wave his magic wand so Mendoza can get throw the lineup at least/more than one time before implosion.
-Use his time machine to go back when FF was really supposed to take over the closers role and put that plan back in place.
-Use his magic wand to knock some sense into CJ… thats all there.
- Flourish his magic wand and make volquez come back down to earth to make the idiots who think we got the short end of that trade realize they are wrong.
-Hypnotize McCarthy into the effective and HEALTHY starter we all know and hope he can be
-Lend his magic wand to Marlon Byrd. Hey, Rudy’s out and someone needs to beef up Marlon’s bat.

I really only have two things to say:
1) It’s about effing time.
2) Thank God.
Doesn’t really do much for most of you I’m sure, but it’s a huge sigh of relief to see Connor go. I can’t tell you how long I’ve been praying that this would happen. Maybe now we can finally become the Texas Rangers who actually have a decent amount of pitching, and consequently, WIN STUFF.

The big thing it does is
make sure Connor can’t fuck with Harrison’s head anymore. The poor kid looked so lost and distraught after his last outing. Hopefully, Hawkins can just get the kid to forget everything and just go out and pitch. He’s got good stuff but man his head needs straightening out. Hawkins did well with him in AAA. I look forward to his work with all the young guys, including Nippert who was great while starting in AAA, which is why he was recalled in the first place.
