Minors 08/10

Ryan Tatusko going for Clinton tonight. Not too bad of a start:

Player IP H R ER BB SO HR ERA
Tatusko  5.0 7 3 2 1 7 0 4.25

Angel 2-3 with two ribs, Moreland driving in 2 with a single.

Frisco lost 2-0.

Tubwood gave up 2 runs, 1 earnie, on 5 hits in 4 IP. The good news? He struck out 6, and only walked 2. The other good news? Springdale is known for it's fried chicken...so Kevin won't waste away, or anything. Z's good buddy went 0-fer...so that sucks too.

Edit: OKC plays tonight at 6:05 MT. Doogie looking to stay healthy.

Update: OKC up 1-0 in the first, on an rbi double by Mr. Nate Gold.

not a big name night, eh?

the preceding post is not nearly as negative or insulting as you think it is

Well, screw me!

Tatusko gives up three in the sixth, aided by Mr. Turner, who lets an IH score, and throws in one of his own, for good measure.

Top 7th, back to back HBP to Santana and Greene, CLN ties it up at 6.

Same-same...but

Mr. Dennis has slammed the door on QC:

1.2 1 0 0 0 4 0

That puts his ERA at 1.41 for the season…yeah, not a typo, 48Ks in 49IP, and 2 dingers all season. He good!

and he is like 25 and can’t stay in A+

Ok, I'll give ya that

but he doesn’t turn 25 until 01/03/09.

You beat me to it

so I will go ahead and add some additional tidbits-
Frisco:
Millwood: 4IP/74 pitches, not terribly efficient; I guess we see him in one more rehab start for about 90pitches
JB DIAz: has been unscored upon in 11 or his 12 outings since his promotion from A+
Tracy: After spending 3-4 games prepping at 1B before his promotion, It looks like he may be there for the rest of the season, displacing Restko. Curious move; i guess he is destined to go the max ramirez route – just stick the guy who can hit at any position
Clinton:
Tatusko: he has dramatic era splits as starter and reliever, about 3.5 to 7; five of his last 6 appearances have been as a starter
AZL:
Looks like Matt Thompson might get some innings tonight after his abreviated debut
A+
Reed: Reed has been roughed up pretty soundly this year. After closing his Jr. year, texas drafted him with an eye to build him into a starter. Though he has a heater that touchers 95, his secondary pitches seem to be more of a project than anticipated. His ugly splits might indicate that he is working on improving those to the detriment of his overall #s which could lead to a breakout yr in 09; or, it could mean that we might have a future closer who quickly shoots up to okc at some point next season if he can’t get a handle on his 2ndy stuff.

by Goyogringo on Aug 10, 2008 7:42 PM CDT   0 recs

JB Diaz

someone mentioned in an earlier post that JB Diaz is one of the best athletes in the system. If anyone cares to do a brief profile on him, I would like to hear it; don’t know much about the guy.

After imploding in A+ last year, seemingly making him a fringe prospect not likely to make it to AA, he excelled there this year, and has been even better since his promotion.

by Goyogringo on Aug 10, 2008 7:45 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Reed

As you hinted at, his numbers against righties aren’t too bad, but lefties are killing him. I expected more from him, but he seems like much more of a project than I hoped. If he’s been specifically working on something I’d still hope to see some improvement in performance by this date.

Time you enjoy wasting was not wasted.

by t ball on Aug 10, 2008 8:27 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah that gambit really worked for Hunter

who many projected as a reliever coming out, even suggesting that Hunter was a bit of a reach as a supplemental first (as a result of not projecting him as a starter). Maybe Reed was the reach in the end, though it is early; I guess we will get the full report of what he has been working on during at some point during the off season or sooner than that if one of the Jasons corner him for an interview…

by Goyogringo on Aug 10, 2008 8:49 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Re: Reed
He is at 124 innings this season after pitching a total of 80 between college and the minors last year. In his last two starts, he’s allowed 15 hits and 15 runs in 10 innings.

That could be a huge reason for his struggles right there.

Kea

Perhps one of the most disappointing guys in the minors this year no? He absolutely lit it up in winter ball and I thought he would make to the bigs at some point this season for sure. Now, I wonder if there is even any need to protect him from the rule 5…

by Goyogringo on Aug 10, 2008 7:49 PM CDT   0 recs

Yep

Although I have no idea how he did so well in winter ball. I saw him a handful of times last year and was never impressed by his stuff. He seemed like a decent organizational depth guy, which is what he has pitched like this year.

by uthornfan on Aug 10, 2008 7:52 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

Disappointment

I didn’t really expect a whole lot from him so I guess I’m not that disappointed.

Time you enjoy wasting was not wasted.

by t ball on Aug 10, 2008 8:22 PM CDT to parent up   0 recs

I thought something clicked

last year for him when he spent the season as a reliever and then had a dominating winter (as did Harrison, so I don’t think you can overlook a stellar fall performance). Doesn’t he throw a wicked split or something, what is his best pitch? I thought that he could be a decent 7th inning guy with that pitch despite his underwhelming velocity…Oh well, i guess as UTH said, he’ll just be another AAAA dude next year.
