ESPN Debate
Stark reviews the seasons of Hamilton and Quentin. Didn't see this anywhere else so if it has already been link'd, my apologies for the redundancy. Several questions from people about Hamilton/Quentin and the affect they have on their respective teams. Interesting discussion, I thought, since I actually agree with Stark for a change. As much as I love Hamilton, I think Quentin is the MVP so far this season.

Interesting
Wouldn’t that have been something if Quentin AND Hamilton had ended up on the Rangers Wasn’t Quentin offered to the Rangers before he ended up with the White Sox? I’ll have to look for links to what I seem to remember.

Not exactly
Texas was set to acquire first baseman Chris Carter from the White Sox for Akinori Otsuka, but the deal fell through after they checked his medical records.
Chicago later went on to trade Carter to Arizona for Quentin straight up.

That's what I was thinking!
Carter for Aki would have been a Danks-like heist the other way.
Were we going to flip Carter to Arizona or keep him?

its tough
Hamilton-Better batting average by about 20 points. Better average with RISP. More RBI’s by a ton. Much Better Defense. CF
Quentin-More Homeruns. Higher Sluggin pct.
I’d much rather have Hamilton. he is the MVP
Feliz and Hurley. The 1-2 punch of the future

I'd rather have Hammy
but Chicago is very likely going to the playoffs. Texas isn’t likely to make any noise next month. Of course, one can argue that Hamilton (and Kinsler) are the only reason this team isn’t facing 100 losses…

That is a ridiculous article.
I hate how Jayson Stark over-hypes Hammy’s RBI totals, but agrees with a reader that RBI are over-hyped while continuing to mention things like batting average with RISP. If you believe RBI is largely a factor of luck, then why do you continue to mention batting average with RISP?
I’m glad Hamilton’s on our team, but Quentin is clearly the MVP up to this point.

Oughta be pretty close if it's down to those two guys
Hamilton has the vote from those guys who vote with their heart because of his incredibly story and his performance in the home run derby, which shouldn’t count but invariably will. Hamilton’s the better defensive player, too. Quentin leads in OBP, slugging, OPS, and HR.
Aikman and Bradshaw?
Please. They are in the same league as Trent Dilfer and Jim McMahon as QBs who were taken to the SB by great Defenses and great Running Games.

Well Since the Sox will likely make the playoffs
and other than Arod we know that most of the time that award, deserving or not will go the the guy on the playoff team, and since the rangers will not be in the playoffs it will likely be Carlos, though for my money I would rather have Hammy on my team (though both as rangers would be nice to…lol)

What is Quentin's defense like?
Any defensive comparison between the 2? Their offensive numbers are pretty similar, so the defense could easily swing it in one’s favor.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

Question for the pro-Quentin crowd
Their argument seems to rest on the fact that Chicago is in first place. But why does the fact that Chicago’s pitching staff is better than the Rangers’ (hence giving them a better record) make Quentin more valuable than Josh?
I propose a 5-year moratorium on trading any young Ranger pitchers who throw over 90 mph.

Other Candidates
I really don’t think that the MVP race is between Hamilton and Quentin only. For what it is worth, the Hardball Times has been keeping track of who they think should be the MVP in their weekly THT Awards. Kinsler has been their choice for a couple of weeks, but the selected Sizemore on Saturday. Here’s a quick look at Hamilton, Quentin, Kinsler, and Sizemore (click on the image to see a larger version).
