Nolan wants to own the Rangers?
via Jon Heyman:
• Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe suggested that Rangers president Nolan Ryan will convince club owner Tom Hicks to spend this winter. And that may be so, but I'm told that what Ryan would most like is to convince Hicks to sell -- that is, to sell the team to him. There is no evidence to this point that Hicks is interested in selling, though.
I know Nolan has his share of people who aren't that fond of him out there, but wouldn't he be a damn better owner than Hicks? I mean, worst case, he can't be any worse.

rumors
nothing attributed to anybody.
besides, i know nolan has a lot of endorsements but does he really have access to like $300million.
i know he’d have to have partners, but come on.

It isn't even about him having $300 mil
I bet he could easily convince a bunch of Texas investors to pool up and buy it, with Nolan being the face of the investment group. Why would Hicks want to sell now though? We’re about to be really good. (supposedly)

Speaking on baseaball terms
Hicks would be selling low, considering he put the Stars up for double it’s value why would he sell now when the farm is stocked and the potential is there?

Stranger things have happened, but I don’t think Hicks would sell (for anything other than an outrageous price). I think he thinks he derives synergies from owning the Stars and Rangers (to say nothing of Liverpool). I’d love to see regime change though.

I've never seen a pitcher with "bone spur" issues throw 96 mph. The only spurs I'm aware of are the spurs that Wash has buried in C J's ass as he rides him. I love ya C J but welcome to Wash's DOGHOUSE.

Nolan thinks he can afford that? He can’t even afford a share of the team.

I thought it was documented
two years ago that Nolan tried to buy this team, I know last year Revo did an interview with Nolan, were he said his dream is to own either of the Texas franchise’s the Astro’s or the Rangers! Oh and YES HE HAS THAT KIND OF MONEY!! plus it would probably be a group thing!

So
Being the greatest pitcher to ever wear a Rangers uniform qualifies him as a good owner. He’d probably do better than Hicks but the question is “how much better?”

He's learned everything he knows about team ownership from Drayton McLane
Look at how he’s handling what should be a rebuilding process in Houston.
BTW—I don’t think anyone knows what the deal with Hicks entails, but there were some rumors that a partial stake in the team was included in the deal.

He's probably be just like
the old Hicks was. Wanting to win now at all costs and doing what he can to make sure that happens which means a lot of trades for veterans and a lot of bad FA signings.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

Its
amazing to me that there are still people outthere that treat Nolan like he’s a complete idiot! The is SUCCESFUL, he’s succesful in anything he does, y’all are right nothing he has done Guaratees he will be a GREAT owner, but the guys a fan, and in this town we have 2 owners that are FANS 1st, and one thats a business owner 1st, and which organizations tend to do the best?

I don't treat Nolan like an idiot
I just doubt his ability to do stuff like be a GM and owner which I think he would try doing. Look at the reports we have heard throughout the season. Nolan has been the one that has been trying to win now while JD has been the one trying to build a consistent winner and not a 1 year wonder. If Nolan owns the team, I can pretty much guarantee he would try doing what Hicks did when Hicks went big after FAs. He would learn from it and maybe become a great owner in the future, but there is no reason to expect he would own the team and then they’d be WS champs.
By 2028, Mark Teixeira will be in the HOF.

If he runs a team as he approached pitching...
“I always wanted my teammates to feel that on the night I pitched, we had a chance to win the ballgame and that I was going to give it my best effort, whatever it was that night. That I was going to do everything I could to help us win that ballgame. And I always wanted the fans to feel, when they walked out of the ballpark on the night I pitched, that they were glad they came and they felt like it was worth their effort and expense to come to the ballgame…”

Great
Just what we need.
We go from a guy who has the money to spend big on the team without feeling the consequences in his wallet at the end of the day but doesn’t consider it a sound investment.

Money is the root of building winning baseball clubs.
Would Nolan be able to raise enough money to run this club like a big market team? (Cause he doesn’t have that sort of scratch himself unless I’m grossly misinformed.)
Or would it just be the same old shit with a new “Texas-style” attitude?
My vote is for the latter.
So “meh” on Nolan owning the team.
