Happy birthday, Jim Mason
Happy birthday to former Ranger (and Senator) infielder Jim Mason, who turns 58 today.
Mason was a shortstop who was sold to the Yanks by the Rangers after the 1973 season, played semi-regularly for the Yanks for a while, went to Toronto, then came back to Texas during the 1977 season with Steve Hargan in a deal that sent Roy Howell to the Blue Jays.
I have to assume Mason was a great defensive player, because he was unbelievably bad offensively. He was a career .203/.259/.275 hitter, with a 54 OPS+ and a .199 EQA in 1700+ plate appearances.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BEN BROUSSARD
Ben was brought to the Rangers for the 2008 season in a trade with Seattle. He was brought in as a stop-gap firstbasemen by Ron Washington and was known some for his defense. His defense must have been good since he was atrocious offensively. Or offensively atrocious. His line of 159/225/268 and an OPS of 493 sunk the team’s offense for 26 games. However, his departure paved the way for Chris Davis who, as we all know, has started in two All-Star games and finished third in MVP balloting last year.
Nothing pithy here. Please move long.

well, i think we are reaching the birthday diary fail point of no return.

"I’m sure you’ve seen Kiker before but I’ll just reiterate that the kid is mean on the mound. He is only 5’10’’ but he is an intimidator. He looks like he hates hitters. He has the juice for pressure situations."
