Would you?
Just for fun, after reading the Vernon Wells waiver thread, I wondered if their might be a waiver solution to our long term 3B problem.
Would you claim Adrian Beltre knowing that he has one more year at $13.4 million?
He will be 30 years old in 2009 and has averaged 23 HR, 82 RBI in the last ten seasons. Do you think he could hit 30HR and drive in 110 RBI in RBIA with the stadium and the rest of the roster factored in? PLUS, he is a righthanded bat!
I know Seattle probably wouldn't just let the Rangers take him (could somebody select him for us), but this is just hypthetical.
If not Beltre, what other 3B that will be put through waivers would you claim to plug into our lineup?

Yes
In about half a second.
But there’s no way Seattle is just going to let him go.
We’d have to give up something significant.

Marlon Byrd
Not sure everyone is noticing how well he’s been playing.
With his recent hot streak he’s now hitting .298/.381/.477/.858 with a 128 ops+ this season.
Beltre: .250/.316/.419 with a 98 ops+
Vernon Wells: .290/.330/.457 with a 108 ops+

In the long run
I’ll take Beltre over Byrd. Besides, we have a bigger need at 3B right now.
Don’t get me wrong, I like Marlon Byrd a lot. But you can’t expect to compete with him batting in the middle of your lineup (much less cleanup).
BTW, If he’s a FA after the season, is there a pretty good chance we can get a sandwich 1st rd pick if he signs elsewhere.
Byrd has one more year of team-controlled arb eligibility

Sorry to be a nazi, but I’m in a crappy mood.
Time you enjoy wasting was not wasted.
Do it.
Although he’s only had a season with an OPS over .800 twice since 2000. Not that I really give a rat’s fat ass…. just that lots of folks believe the OPS trumps all.
Aikman and Bradshaw?
Please. They are in the same league as Trent Dilfer and Jim McMahon as QBs who were taken to the SB by great Defenses and great Running Games.

that 2005 season
he must have been pumping some monster roids to explode like that. THat was a contract year for the ages.
heres a question:
adrian beltre
adam dunn
vernon wells
you can have one on your team next year – waivers or FA.
who do you want on the team?

Dunn, no question
He’s still an elite hitter.
His downturn could be as pronounced as Konerko’s, though.
Pretty clearly the first time he has ever looked at a web site. "And there are readers' comments at the bottom! And advertisements for products! And best of all, I won a free iPod!"

the question is
will his OBP suffer that much?
will being in TBiA help?
and hes still 28…im saying say you can bring him in on a 3-4 year deal…do it?

I think Ramirez will be as good as Dunn will be and obviously loads cheaper
And there’s Bradley…

Def Beltre
That Wells contract combined with Young would really saddle us long term.

Beltre...
Great defense and a decent RH bat in the lineup.
"The only good is knowledge and the only evil is ignorance."-Socrates
Tough call... Beltre would be #1 priority of those three.
For sheer need at 3B, I would like to take Beltre as a nice RH bat between Hamilton and Davis.
I am intrigued by Dun though in LF. I really like that he is a patient hitter and walks alot. It would be easier to handle the strikeouts with 40 home run power and nice OBP.
Vernon’s contract makes him third. Would rather give that kind of contract to a pitcher.
Go Cubbies and Go Rangers!
theres a big question
whats more overrated
AVG or RBI? lol

Damn
I thought this was going to be a “post some hot chicks” thread.
Plaschke: Scioscia, the former Dodgers catcher, is the model manager who has created an atmosphere of winning.
Junior:It's that simple. Mike Scioscia brings a Glade Plug-In labeled "Winning™" into the clubhouse and everyone who breathes it in gains 15 points in average.
Ok...
