Nate Robertson of the Tigers
Ken Rosenthal of SI.com is saying that the Tigers will probably move Nate Robertson this winter. He earns $7MM in '09 and $10MM in '10. I would also have no problem extending him an extra year at $13 to make it $10mil/yr for three years. Very reasonable and a nice bridge to the kids.
That seems like a small price to pay for a solid LH starter for the rotation.
He is 31 and has only 5 years of experience. He is averaging the following per season and is pretty consistent:
30 starts, 200 IP, 200 H, 111 R, 27 HR, 66 BB, 132 K
His GB/FB ratio has gone the wrong way each season, but he would seem to have some good years left on his arm. So why not try to acquire him for a catcher and another prospect.
Also: if the Dodgers were to buy out Brad Penny, I wouldn't mind taking a flyer on him for next year with a one year $8 million deal with an option for another year at $12 million. Would be a great risk if he can prove he can stay healthy.

He sucks
$13 million for a year of Robertson is terrible.
He’s a bad pitcher, and he is overpaid at 2 years, $17 million.
Penny had a good year last year and I think that a flyer on him is a good deal and if he is there we should jump at it. When healthy he is a good number 2 and can typically have an ERA in the mid 3’s. I think that that makes sense but health is a huge issue. Robertson sucks so thats a no go.
Penny
we have enough mediocre injury risks. I would not call him a good #2 anymore, he’s had one good year out of the last 4.
Time you enjoy wasting was not wasted.
Oh, brother,
don’t use wins as your criteria. His peripherals weren’t that great. He’d likely be better than most of the options TX now has, but I wouldn’t offer him more than, say a 2 year deal with lots of innings incentives.
The Dodgers hold an option on him with a $2M buyout, so it will essentially cost them $7.5M to keep him. Unless they go get someone better I think they’ll keep him at that price.
Time you enjoy wasting was not wasted.
Amazingly
As soon as Millwood is activated, we have 3 starters with an ERA lower than that. Definately pass on him at that money

this recent pitching debacle
has made even the most overpaid, pedestrian pitchers seem like viable options. but i agree, stay away from robertson unless you can get him for free, and even then, you should probably kiss an egg for luck and hope for the best.
Fail.
Aikman and Bradshaw?
Please. They are in the same league as Trent Dilfer and Jim McMahon as QBs who were taken to the SB by great Defenses and great Running Games.

Congratulations, sir.
You just made one of the most hypocritical statement in the history of this blog, Mr. Yooooooooooooouuuuuuuuuukkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk. I am praying you bump into Chuck Norris and he roundhouse kicks your head square off your shoulders.

Robertson
He is posting a 4.51 FIP his lowest LOB% of his career and a really high .344 BABIP. Not that I would want him on the Rangers.

That's not a bridge.
It’s a pier.

heh
got me laughing on that one.

Robertson
Why would we give up anything to get him when we could just go out and sign Jon Garland who gives you the same if not more starts and more innings and is younger. He will probably be in the same price range as Robertson.

Nate Robertson

Because we can do much, much better for a catcher and another prospect.
We need to hire Chuck Norris to kick the ass of any Ranger fan caught booing one of our young pitchers at the RBiA.
