Thank you sir
I was looking over that site, but couldn’t find any games listed for today. I can actually watch the game locally, but I have a buddy in the UK that I would like to introduce to the game. I figure if we can both watch it, I can explain what’s going on.

Who would he be blocking?
Hunter and Harrison could use more seasoning in the minors and Hurley will be in the rotation most likely so really there is no one he is directly blocking next year

You know, I'd imagine
That a ML contract might be the only thing that prevents us from signing him. We’obviously got the money, but that would leave us with a 38-man roster after we gave Borbon a ML contract last year.

He is not a problem. He will be ready for a callup somewhere around midseason next year. Warner Madrigal was more of a problem for us this year than Borbon will be for us next year.

If you're patient

yikes
We clearly no longer even slightly care about this season. I guess I can’t blame them- with pitching so bad it’s almost indescribable, there has to be a lot of tension between hitters and pitching.
My concern is they are going to destroy the confidence of heaps more rookie pitchers by tossing them into the fire the rest of this season. No use sending someone with any sort of potential out there to total up a double-digit era- these guys (Hunter, Mendoza, etc.. clearly are not even remotely close to major league caliber yet).

Time you enjoy wasting was not wasted.
as long as he's as good as they say he is, it shouldn't be.
not to mention when we trade him for pitching in a couple of years it won’t matter.
Someone clearly has to go..
Davis has already shown he can hit- so maybe he’ll fetch an arm capable of an under 7 era and eating innings.

NIXON: NOW MORE THAN EVER
serious question
i really like Kinsler and i think he’s a great player but i dont see him continuing having these types of season. So would you guys consider trading him for some GOOD young pitching. We could ask Young to move to 2nd and then have Andrus at SS or vaiello at 2nd. i think we could get a lot of pitching for Ian, his numbers look good and he’s a 2nd baseman. JD should consider it
Feliz and Hurley. The 1-2 punch of the future
yep
i would think that if the rangers had to pick 2 players to not deal at all, it would be kins and hammy since they have control of him for a long time
http://www.buchanan4pres2008.org/
NIXON: NOW MORE THAN EVER
you have to give to get something
look what the Rays did. They knew Delmon Young wasnt gonna be player most thought so they traded for some young pitching
Feliz and Hurley. The 1-2 punch of the future
right
but you gotta put your foot down on certain players. those 2 guys would be the only ones i’d say are untouchable. unless we’re talking about a crazy ridiculous offer.
i would say kinsler has more of a chance to be this good for the next 3 years than 95% of “good young pitchers” maintaining their level.
http://www.buchanan4pres2008.org/
NIXON: NOW MORE THAN EVER
we're not gonna win even if Kinsler does great.
This is one of the reasons we suck at pitching every year. we never want to trade one our precious hitters and get some pitching. i guarantee you that every year we’ll be in the top 7 in hitting every year
Feliz and Hurley. The 1-2 punch of the future
we aren't gonna win
by just trading kins and getting a young pitcher or 2.
i’m just saying kinsler and hammy are off the table. everybody else is available. catchers included
http://www.buchanan4pres2008.org/
NIXON: NOW MORE THAN EVER
teams would give a lot for kinsler. i dont know how much teams are gonna give for laird or salty
Feliz and Hurley. The 1-2 punch of the future
Why wouldn't he have more seasons like this?
Players usually peak at age 27 or 28. But I understand the motivation of the question- we HAVE TO GET PITCHING.
Hey, it could be worse...
by HighPlainsGrifter on Aug 15, 2008 9:40 PM CDT up reply actions
i dont see him doin that
because he looks pretty bad when he swings right now and he rarely ever goes to the opposite field. And if most players peak at 27 or 28 then we should be able to get more
Feliz and Hurley. The 1-2 punch of the future
Not unless you get a can't miss ace back in return....
…. such as a David Price + possibly more. Ian is a perennial MVP candidate… not a guy you toss around lightly. You’d damn well bring a load for him.

well, we can try to sugar coat it all
but there is nothing good about this season when you mention millwood’s name. he has absolutely killed us. not just on the mound but the fact that we have had to use so many young arms we really didnt want to with him going out the times he has.
The fact that ...
He didn’t leave the game in the first or second with another fricken injury is plenty encouraging to me. That’s how bad it’s been lately, my standards are pretty low at this point.
I hope Millwood pitches..
anywhere but Texas next year. He is barely even a reliable 4th spot in the rotation starter now, plus an injury waiting to happen.

Don’t see why anyone would ever go to another Rangers game until they AGGRESSIVELY address this pitching. I mean like however in Hell they do it -score a front-line starter and at LEAST two guys who can be slightly competent and eat innings.

We've tried to "aggresively" address the issue of pitching before
That’s why we traded Chris Young for Adam Eaton, and John Danks for Brandon McCarthy, and that didn’t work out so well.
We need to hire Chuck Norris to kick the ass of any Ranger fan caught booing one of our young pitchers at the RBiA.
well true..
so let’s try aggressively and competently, this time.

Well, the point is
You’re not gonna be able to accquire any young ace pitchers via trade without giving up some pitching yourself. And based on what we’ve seen in the past, it’s just not worth it.
Really, the best thing we can do for our pitching staff is just try to sign somebody like Ben Sheets or Derek Lowe in the offseason, and ride things out until our good young pitchers come of age. Thats kind of what Tampa Bay has done, and look where they are now.
We need to hire Chuck Norris to kick the ass of any Ranger fan caught booing one of our young pitchers at the RBiA.
Yeah get a competent starter-
but we need 2 or 3 guys that can just hold up health wise and have around a 5 or 6 era- as mediocre as that is, it’s a LOT LOT better than entering a game with no chance to win as we are right now.
PLus with our offense a guy with a 6 era could win 12 times or more. It’s not like we need freaking Santana- we just need someone who is familiar with the basics of major league pitching.

What's different about this season than so many others before?
The offense might be as good or better than most we’ve seen, but it’s the same story, different year. Why are you surprised? This staff wasn’t expected to be worth a bag of turds at the start of the year. What will happen: 4 months will pass…. we’ll miss baseball….hopefully the Rangers will make some moves… we’ll have that whole hope springs eternal thing going on….. and we’ll be back here hoping for the best.
Aikman and Bradshaw?
Please. They are in the same league as Trent Dilfer and Jim McMahon as QBs who were taken to the SB by great Defenses and great Running Games.

Nothing is different.
That’s why I am angry about it. I don’t at all see the level of commitment to WINNING from Hicks that I see from most other owners.

K, well, you're making your stand now?
Drawing your line in the sand? Had enough? I’ve had 20+years… I’m in it for the long haul, buddy. They’re my team, suck, suck, or suck.

Yes they have
They’ve given up hope that you’ll ever say anything intellegent.
We need to hire Chuck Norris to kick the ass of any Ranger fan caught booing one of our young pitchers at the RBiA.
Can't say I'm a 20 year veteran
But +1.
We need to hire Chuck Norris to kick the ass of any Ranger fan caught booing one of our young pitchers at the RBiA.
I have been with them since the very beginning.
1972- and I am so pissed exactly because they are my team. Being a fan to me means you care deeply and you expect the best product.
I wouldn’t prove my “fan” worth by blithely accepting stunning incompetence. Just how I see it, reasonable people can see iftother ways.

but it CAN'T be worse this time.
I mean really, it almost can’t- at least pitching wise. (Not that this is not a familiar refrain with long-term fans)

well. another ugly one down.
it might just be me but it sure looks like a lot of these guys have just compeletely mailed it in. i can only imagine how frustrating this must be for the likes of IK, MY, JH, GL and CD. Im sure they are just tired of this bull crap that gets on the mound everyd day!!
Yeah.. this might get historically ugly...
We may have to absoultely nuclear detonate any and everything in the entire organization about pitching development and philosophy.
This is just not acceptable.

Yay, we’re going tomorrow, too. I’m tempted to stay here with y’all.
Now I’m just waiting for Smoak. Got to get something good out of this night.
