Rangers sign Ross
The DMN says the Rangers have signed Robbie Ross.
Still no word on Justin Smoak.
UPDATE -- BA says it is for $1.575 million. That's right around #18 slot money.

Nice, but
this was expected so I’m not too excited yet.
Time you enjoy wasting was not wasted.

I'm reserving my fist pump for Smoak
We need to hire Chuck Norris to kick the ass of any Ranger fan caught booing one of our young pitchers at the RBiA.

This is great news
He’s like a bonus first round pick. Best high school lefty in the draft, right? I’ll take that!

Thought Lobstein was considered the best high school lefty?

also Nick Maronde
All three are pretty good, and I’m sure an argument could be made for all three of them to be the best HS lefty.

Smoak will
get signed. The agent isn’t stupid. Would you let a kid go back to school and risk him switching agents or getting hurt or you could make a cool $200-$400k tonight?

Smoak update from JD: "We're not close"
Starting to get a bit nervous now.
At least not right now. There’s still time to get something done. GM Jon Daniels said economics and the contract structure are the hold ups.
The deadline is less than four hours away.

Huh
“Contract structure”… could that mean he’s holding out for a Major League contract?

I would presume so
This is starting to appear dicey.

He should be
But im sure the Rangers are trying everything they can to not tie up another roster spot to a guy who wouldn’t be available next April to help the big club. Borbon should be ready around midseason to be an injury callup at least

'economics'?
Why can’t they just say money.

Mike Mustockas
For the royals “was not close” like 5 mins before the deadline.
Then magically he was signed.

was there ever an explanation
about the goof last year when the rangers sent out a press release announcing 2 last minute signings who in fact had not signed?

Smoak...
the hang-up has to be a ML deal. Smoak is demanding it and JD won’t do it. I’m sure $ is an issue as well obviously, but I have a feeling that is what is holding up a deal right now.
Cutting it pretty close, let’s see who flinches first. It makes absolutely no sense for Smoak not to sign. The guy would be stupid to go back to college and be a year older and lose a year of developmental time for a couple hunded K.
Nice to see Ross signed. Anyone know about some of the other picks still not signed?

Nice
I’m super pumped about this kid.
I knew he’d sign though, so this isn’t a big surprise to me.
Smoak not getting a ML deal is the much bigger story of the day, imo.
